How to make a homemade float. DIY float, homemade float

Often, fishermen prefer to make their own floats rather than buy these. fishing gear in shops.

And this is not at all surprising, since the use of homemade floats is beneficial for two simple reasons:

You save personal money; based on personal fishing considerations and needs, you can get at your disposal a float of almost any shape, color, design. Next, we will talk about the manufacture of several types of floats.

In the course of work, you may need some tools and a number of different materials.

Tools:

  • Vise;
  • Pliers;
  • Drill;
  • Calipers;
  • Chisel.

Materials:

  • A piece of foam;
  • Goose feather;
  • bottle stopper;
  • plastic tube;
  • Wire of different sections.

Also grab some epoxy, a few pieces of sandpaper, and good quality, water-resistant paint.

Foam floats are characterized high level sensitivity. Most often there are home-made spherical models, floats in the form of a drop or olives.

To begin with, small square or rectangular blanks are cut from a piece of foam. Then, using a sharp clerical knife, the float is given the desired shape and cleaned with sandpaper. Instead of a knife, you can also use a drill with an appropriate nozzle.

After cleaning the float from dust, paint its body in the desired color or combination of colors. When the paint dries, cover the foam float with varnish and again give the workpiece time to dry. Next, in the center of the workpiece, we drill a small longitudinal hole and insert the core (feather or wood) into it. Core length can reach 6-7 cm, the average thickness is 1-1.5 mm. You can also slightly change the design by gluing an element of a thin pen only in upper part, and at the bottom make a small loop for fishing line from a thin wire.

Instead of wire, you can use the eye of the hook. Most often, one sinker is used in gear, when using which only part of the float rod is visible to the fisherman. Foam floats are quite sensitive, therefore they will notify the fisherman even of weak bites. For effective work float required fishing line with a thickness of up to 0.16 mm.

Most fishermen are well aware of goose floats, which are distinguished by excellent work on the wave, good sensitivity and ease of manufacture. To make a float of this type, no complicated procedures are required. The only delicate point is removal of the goose feather awn, as it is important not to damage its integrity. If everything went well, we cut off the thinner part of the pen obliquely and bend it with a loop.

From below we insert a ring of wire and a tongue, fasten it to the rod and varnish it. The upper part is painted in the desired color if necessary.

According to the manufacturing scheme, this float is similar to the previous one. However, it must be remembered that the cork material is characterized by porosity and gradually becomes heavier when in water. In this regard, all large holes in the workpiece must be closed using waterproof putty or alternative means. After that the float processed with sandpaper, degreased and painted. A rod with a loop is inserted into the longitudinal hole made. At the end of the loop, an eyelet from a large hook is put on.

Such a float is fixed with the help of a tube that is put on the fishing line. It is shipped with 2-3 weights up to about half of the rod of the upper part of the float body.

Floats of this type are also highly sensitive and durable. The manufacturing process is simple. You will need a regular plastic straw, which is used as a holder for flags, balloons or cotton candy.

We take the tube, shorten it to the desired length. Next, you need to solder the edges so that water does not get inside. Using a lighter or an ordinary candle, heat the tube around the edges. When the plastic softens and swells a little, we twist the heated end of the tube into a kind of pigtail. Next, we wait until the heated parts cool down, and we get a reliable seal.

Once again, slightly heat one of the edges of the tube, after which you need to flatten it with pliers to make a small hole. This hole is needed for a thin wire, on which a nipple will be put on, a fishing line will be threaded. It remains to cut off the excess, clean and paint the surface of the float. In just an hour, you can make a whole set of sensitive and reliable floats of different colors without spending money in stores.

The float is an important component of fishing equipment. In specialized fishing stores you can find a great variety of floats of various shapes and colors. However, many fishing enthusiasts prefer to use a hand-made float instead of a ready-made purchased float. It is quite easy to make a product of the required size and desired shade from the available materials at hand. In addition, this method will help save money.

For a homemade float, you may need the following tools:

  • Sharp knife;
  • Awl;
  • Sandpaper (both fine and coarse);
  • Roulette or caliper;
  • Electric drill;
  • Vise;
  • Chisel.

A do-it-yourself float can be made from various materials. Perfect for this:

  • waterfowl feathers;
  • bottle stopper;
  • plastic tube;
  • wire of different sections for the formation of loops and rings;
  • tree;
  • rigid foam.

Toothpicks, waterproof paints and epoxy glue will help to process the float blank as necessary.

Each of these materials has its own buoyancy characteristics. The choice of a suitable option for the manufacture of this product depends on the characteristics of the type of fish and the reservoir in which it is planned to catch it. When choosing a material suitable for making a homemade float, some nuances must be taken into account:

  1. A light float, weighing 0.2 - 0.8 g, is used to catch fish near the shore. Such a float responds well even to minor bites and is quite suitable for catching crucian carp, rudd or roach.
  2. The float, having a weight of 0.8 - 2.5 g, is used for catching fish in difficult conditions in the current. Such a float allows you to throw gear at 20-30 meters, which is very conducive to catching large fish: grass carp, bream, chub, silver carp or crucian carp of impressive size.
  3. A heavy volumetric float weighing from 3 to 10 g is used to cast tackle at a distance of at least 50 m, which allows you to catch a large catfish or carp. Floats of similar sizes are clearly visible even at an impressive distance.

In the manufacture of any float, it is necessary to load it correctly, then the fisherman will be able to see even the lightest bite.

Features of the manufacture of a foam float

The desired shape of the float should be cut with a sharp knife from the workpiece. The length of the product should be 50-70 mm, and the thickness - 10-20 mm. In the center along the axis, then insert a toothpick at 2/3 of the depth. Its outer part must be fixed in the chuck of an electric drill firmly fixed in a vice.

Then, using high rotation speeds, using sandpaper or a file fed to the workpiece, you can make a float of the required shape by adjusting the angle of the tool with an abrasive coating.

After that, you should remove the toothpick from the workpiece, make a hole of the desired diameter and insert a feather or plastic antenna, after which the connection must be fixed with waterproof glue.

How to make a feather float

Such a float, due to the peculiarities of its shape, is considered the most sensitive and perfectly responds even to the lightest touches of the fish on the bait.

The pen shaft must be carefully cleaned of fluff, without damaging its impenetrability in the process. To do this, you can use a knife or clean with fine sandpaper.

Then, at the bottom of the keel, to attach the fishing line to the thin part, you need to put on a rubber ring, which can be cut off from a 5 mm nipple.

After that, the resulting blank can be painted with waterproof paint. For this, 2 colors are usually used: black and red or black in combination with orange.

How to make a wooden float

Wooden floats have excellent sensitivity and good balance. Such a float can be made from light and durable balsa.

A bar suitable for these purposes must have the same density along its entire length, a good option: 0.1-0.12 g / cm. cube Additionally, you need to take a steel wire with a diameter of 0.5-0.7 mm and carbon fiber rods 1 m long and 1 mm thick.

To make the body of the float, you should separate a piece of the bar and give it an oval shape. Sharp edges are recommended to be cleaned with sandpaper.

Then you need to make holes for the antenna and the keel, which should enter 1/3 of the length of the float body. This is best done with a drill. Clamping the barrel in a vise, drill a hole with a diameter of 0.1-0.2 mm, insert the keel greased with glue and leave for half an hour. After that, it is necessary to drill a hole for the antenna on the other side. Then the antenna (it can be made from a barbecue stick) should be greased with glue, inserted into the resulting hole and left for another half hour.

It is also necessary to make a hole in the body of the float for the ring, through which the fishing line will subsequently be pulled. To do this, with a thin drill, you need to drill a hole of 0.5 cm, make rings from a thin wire, dip it in glue and stick it into the resulting hole.

Then you can start priming and painting. After priming with an alcohol solution (usually a nitrolac diluted with acetone is used), the product must be thoroughly dried. Then you can give the float the desired shade. It is recommended to apply the paint evenly on the entire surface of the float, otherwise its carrying capacity will change significantly when in contact with water, which will not in the best way affect the functionality of the tool.

A balsa float is quite simple to manufacture and has a long service life. It can be used for any kind of fishing.

Despite the abundance of floats in fishing shops, amateur fishing masters continue to make home-made models. They differ in appearance, material and load capacity. Making a sensitive float with your own hands is easy. It is enough to determine the type of product, select the appropriate materials and sequentially perform all operations.

A do-it-yourself float can be used in different fishing conditions. Appropriate materials should be selected depending on the area of use.

  • Fishing in the coastal zone is possible on the lightest models weighing 0.2-0.8 g. Due to their low weight, it is possible to hunt for fish species such as roach, rudd and crucian carp.
  • For fishing in the current, a medium-weight float (0.8-2.5 g) is required. Equipment with such a signaling device can easily be thrown at 20-30 m, where such big fish like bream, ide, chub.
  • A heavy float weighing from 3 to 10 g allows ultra-long casting of equipment. Such models have a voluminous body, and flight characteristics reach 50 m. The antenna will be clearly visible from afar due to its large size. Such large representatives of the ichthyofauna as carp, grass carp and silver carp will be interested in the bait.

Materials for manufacturing

If earlier anglers were limited in materials, today the choice is quite large. Some of the materials are suitable for making a body, while others are better used as an antenna.

  1. You can create a floating body using:
  • polystyrene;
  • corks from under wine or cognac;
  • medical syringe;
  • balsa;
  • wood.
  1. For the role of the antenna can be suitable:
  • waterfowl feather (from geese or ducks);
  • cane;
  • plastic tube.

To create a bite alarm, you may need various household materials:

  • waterproof glue will help hold the individual elements together;
  • wire with a thickness of 0.5-1.0 mm is needed for the manufacture of rings and eyelets;
  • acrylic paints will give the float individuality and good visibility;
  • toothpicks will help to process the body of the float.

For comfortable and fast work, you should have some tools at hand.

  • Making accurate and even holes is easiest with an electric drill and a set of drill bits. In some cases, it is more convenient to work with an awl.
  • A chisel and a sharp knife will allow you to remove excess pieces of material when creating a fishing masterpiece.
  • With the help of a file or sandpaper, it will be possible to give the float precise shapes and perfect smoothness.
  • It is easiest to hold the workpiece or tool in a vise.
  • A ruler or caliper will help control the accuracy of manufacturing.

Technology for making a float from a wine cork or foam

To make a float with increased carrying capacity, it is necessary to form a body. It can be in the form of a ball, olives or drops.

Minimal refinement is needed when making a float from a wine cork. It has a cylindrical body, which remains to be slightly modified and polished.

  1. A carabiner with a swivel or a wire loop is attached to the bottom of the antenna. It remains to decorate the body and antenna with paint or nail polish.

Making a goose feather float

For every lover fishing there are several goose floats in the box. They often help out when the bites of the fish are cautious and inconspicuous. Before you make a goose feather float, you should properly prepare the material.

  1. To collect feathers, it is better to go to a pond, which was chosen by geese or ducks. You can take 5-10 feathers with you, different in color and length. Do not start any processing on the shore. It's better to do everything at home.
  2. Using a clerical knife, it is necessary to cut off the fluff from both sides.

Attention! Lead the sharp blade of the knife in the direction of the villi. So it will be possible to get rid of fluff without violating the tightness of the pen.

  1. The remaining fluff can be removed with fire. To do this, it is easier to use a lighter and walk along the body with a flame several times. The fire will also help straighten a twisted feather.
  2. Next, with a colorless varnish, it is necessary to coat the attachment points of the villi in order to close up microscopic holes and cracks.
  3. The top of the feather is dyed red or orange.
  4. Knowing how to make a feather float, it is important to securely attach it to the fishing line. To do this, two cambric tubes from a dropper tube are placed on the pen. Alternatively, a thin wire loop can be made at the bottom end of the float.
  5. Increasing the weight and carrying capacity of a goose float is quite simple. It is necessary to make a body out of foam, balsa or cork. Then measure the thickness of the feather with a caliper and make a through hole with a drill. Its diameter should be 0.1-1.0 mm thinner than the pen thickness. The antenna is inserted inside and fixed with glue.

Making a long-range float

For ultra-long casting of equipment, you can create a float with a load.

  1. You can make an antenna out of two plastic tubes. A 1.5 mm thick tube should be installed on top, a plastic product with a diameter of 3 mm is suitable for the lower part. Alternatively, bamboo or reed can be used.
  2. The body is made of foam. Body height 40-70 mm, diameter at the top 15 mm, in lowest point narrowed to 10 mm.
  3. A hole 4-6 mm deep and 2.5 mm thick is made in the lower part of the body. A lead load is mounted in the hole, which is fixed with glue. It can be cast in the appropriate thickness by first installing a wire eyelet.
  4. A wire ring for fishing line is attached to the upper part of the body.
  5. Assembly of the antenna with the body is carried out using waterproof glue. The final operation will be the coloring of the float.

At the fan float fishing there should be a rich set of bite signaling devices. Some floats are convenient to use when fishing short in calm weather. Other models will help deliver the bait over a long distance, allowing you to catch trophy fish.

Most anglers prefer to use homemade floats rather than store-bought ones. The thing is that most fishing enthusiasts love the process self-manufacturing various fishing accessories. It is not difficult to make a float, especially since any material that has positive buoyancy plus a little imagination is suitable for this. How to color it is a matter of taste and color preferences. This article will help determine the type of float, its shape, as well as the material for its manufacture.

A float is a critical element of tackle that is easily made by any angler's own efforts. Of course, you will have to practice, because the first samples will be far from ideal. But over time, the floats will get better and better, after which the moment will come when their own variants of floats will begin to appear.

Maybe someone has already been involved in this process, then this article will help to determine the shortcomings and miscalculations, which will make it possible to make a more perfect version.

From what and what kind of float to make

For the manufacture of a float, any materials that do not sink in water and are easily processed are suitable. Such materials can be safely attributed:

  • feathers of feathered birds (goose, swan, etc.);
  • a plastic tube (from under cotton candy, etc.);
  • tree;
  • Styrofoam.

The material is selected depending on what kind of fish you plan to go. When choosing a material, one should take into account such a moment as the presence of flow. IN standing water any of the proposed float options will work fine. As for fishing on the course, everything is much more complicated here.

Each material has its own buoyancy characteristics. This means that floats of different sensitivity can be obtained from these materials. If you plan to catch crucian or roach, then a goose feather or plastic tube float can easily cope with this task, and if you plan to catch more powerful fish, such as carp, perch, bream, then it is better to use less sensitive floats that can withstand powerful bites. Therefore, when starting to manufacture a float, you need to clearly know what it is for and in what conditions it will have to fish.

This float is the most sensitive, due to its lightness and peculiar shape close to ideal. With it, you can even fix the usual touches of fish, not to mention bites. With this float, many anglers began their fishing careers, later preferring modern floats. The fact is that in the recent past, apart from a goose feather float, it was difficult to find something more suitable. Making a float comes down to elementary actions aimed at cleaning the body of the float from excess goose down. At the same time, it can be made somewhat shorter, slightly shortening it, if necessary. Cleaning should be done very carefully so as not to damage the body of the float and not violate its tightness. This can be done with a regular blade or with a lighter, removing excess fluff. After such a procedure, the body of the float will have to be treated with fine sandpaper, removing traces of burnt feathers.

It remains to fix the float on the main line, and it is ready to use. As a rule, an ordinary nipple is used for this, cutting off two rings about 5 cm wide. The nipple is easily put on the body of the float, but before that they must be passed through the fishing line. The use of a nipple has its drawbacks. Usually these rubber bands are enough for only one season, as the rubber loses its properties under the influence of sunlight. So what! Putting new rubber bands is not so difficult, but everything is very simple and affordable. In addition, rubber copes very well with its functions, compared to other materials.

The normal body color of a goose feather float is white, so it is not always noticeable, especially in cloudy weather. So that it can be seen at a considerable distance and not particularly strain your eyesight, the float can be painted. To do this, you can take ordinary nail polish, especially since you don’t need a lot of it and it is in almost every family. The float should not be painted completely, but only the part that will rise above the water. In this case, the float can be seen and the fish will not be alarmed.

As a rule, the manufacture of such a float takes a minimum of time, and the result is not even bad at all. By the way, goose feather floats can be purchased at a fishing store, which indicates their effectiveness.

Floats from goose or swan feathers, in case of loss due to a cliff, are easily made near a reservoir. Why? Yes, because feathers are easy to find near a pond or lake. It remains only to clean the pen and fix it on the fishing line.

Feather float video

Such a tube can be found in crowded places where people spend their free time drinking cotton candy or waving flags. Similar tubes are used to hold balloons, etc. A float from such a tube can be called an analogue of a goose feather float, although it requires special refinement. It differs from a goose or swan float in greater strength and more modern appearance. In other words, a plastic tube is ideal for making a float.

The main task in the manufacture of such a float is to make the stick airtight. To do this, you just need to heat the edges with a lighter and carefully solder the hole in the tube with some object.

A soldering iron is also suitable for such purposes. In this case, you can do without open fire. With a certain skill, you can solder the edges so that no one will notice.

There is another, the simplest option - this is to introduce a drop of silicone into the cavity of the tube from one side and the other, and the problem will be solved. You just need to give a little time later for the silicone to harden. It is better to use colorless silicone, as it has the best adhesive effect.

Having made the tube waterproof, they begin to attach the future float to the fishing line. If the color of the float does not satisfy the fisherman, then it can be painted in the same way as a goose feather float. In general, the mounting technology is identical to the first option, although you can come up with your own mounting option.

Making a plastic tube float will take almost the same amount of time as making a goose feather float. In both cases, you need to find a blank for the body of the float. This may be the only difficulty.

How to make your own float out of cork or foam

The manufacturing technology of such floats is identical, despite the fact that they are used different materials. The only difference is that the cork is easier to process, and under certain conditions it is not necessary at all. The sensitivity of such floats is somewhat lower, but they are suitable for catching trophy fish or predatory fish. The fish must be strong enough to sink such a float. When fishing for live bait, such floats are ideal, because they do not allow him to move around a larger area. When biting a pike or zander, the float will immediately react.

Any angler who has at least some skills in working with tools and materials can make a float from foam or cork. In this case, high-density foam should be taken, otherwise a normal float will not work. First you need to cut a workpiece of a certain shape, after which it is cultivated on a grinding machine or in another suitable way. A hole is made in the center of the workpiece (it can be drilled), through which, for example, a lollipop stick or the same stick is inserted, as in the manufacture of a float from a bird feather. The only difference is that such a tube does not need to be soldered, since buoyancy will be provided by the materials from which the body of the float is made (foam or cork). Further, a nipple is mounted on the tube, and the float itself is attached to the tackle. After that, you can go fishing. Painting is optional, depending on fishing conditions. For painting it is better to use waterproof coloring materials.

Do-it-yourself wooden float

Despite the fact that wooden floats are very popular, it is quite difficult to make them yourself, without the use of special equipment. The problem is also related to the fact that not every tree can produce a high-quality float that meets the requirements of the angler.

Many craftsmen have gotten used to turning the body of the float with a drill or screwdriver, but this requires special skills. In any case, you can experiment on a regular tree, and then move on to softer rocks from which you can make a float.

Alternatively, you can try to make a bamboo float, but this also requires certain skills. Such floats either need to be made, but only high-quality ones should be made, or not made at all.

How to make a sliding float with your own hands

When you want to make a long cast or fishing depth is greater than the length of the rod, then you need a sliding float. How to make such a float or how to ensure the mobility of the float? This is done elementarily by securing the float accordingly. The meaning of the sliding float is that the float slides along the line within two stops that control its movement. The lower stop prevents the float from sinking very close to the sinkers, and the upper stop limits the depth of fishing. The lower limiters allow you to make long casts without problems. Limiters can be made independently or purchased in a store, especially since they are not expensive. For such gear, any type of float is suitable, the main thing is to ensure that it slides. Alternatively, you can offer to make a special float, inside which there is a hollow tube through which the fishing line is passed. Thus, a sliding float is obtained, it remains only to fix the limiters. Beads of a neutral color can be used as limiters (stoppers).

If you plan to make long casts, then the float must have the right weight, as a light float will not fly far.

And let today homemade floats almost lost their relevance among fans active rest on the river bank, since many people prefer to go to the store and buy a modern factory model, there are still enthusiasts who trust their hands much more.

And the pleasure that you get while fishing on your own float will be an order of magnitude higher. It remains to answer a few questions: what floats can be made and what materials are better to use?

Homemade floats for fishing: materials and types. Video

A homemade float can be made from almost anything that gets under your arm or on your eyes. But The most common materials are the following:

  • Styrofoam;
  • kuga (or dried reed stalk);
  • cork;
  • goose feather.

As a rule, homemade floats are made for fishing in calm waters, but if you take into account some features, you can do specialized floats of the following types:

  • float for long casting;
  • float for flow;
  • sliding float.

Making a float

Styrofoam

Usually, foam floats are very sensitive. To make the simplest model, you need to make a ball 6-7 mm in diameter - the top is painted red or orange, the bottom blue. In the center of the ball, it is required to make a hole into which a beech rod up to 2 mm thick and 6-7 cm long will be inserted. Its upper part must be painted with stripes of several colors, a figure eight is mounted on the bottom for attaching fishing line. To adjust such a float, weights are hung a little above the hook, which will submerge exactly half of the foam ball under water.

No one should have any particular difficulties during work, but you should listen to a couple more tips.

  • Tip one - applying a protective coating. Since the materials used are quite porous and can quickly lose their properties under constant exposure to water, it is recommended to cover the entire surface with varnish or epoxy glue (the second option is more preferable). The surface is pre-degreased so that the crust is stronger. It is recommended to apply 4 to 6 layers, each of which must dry completely before applying the next.
  • Tip two - heat treatment. Another way to betray the strength of the foam is to heat treat it with a conventional iron. To do this, with a slightly heated device, roll the prepared ball along the ideal flat surface. As a result, pores will be removed from it, and the color will acquire a glossy tint.
  • Catching walleye on a jig. You can find a video and an article about this zander fishing here.

    And in this article you can learn how to make a homemade float.

    Kuga (or reed stalk) used for the manufacture of cylindrical floats. The material must be harvested in the fall and dried well during the winter. After drying, it is cut with a clerical knife into segments of 3-6 cm. At the top of the float, you need to glue the antenna - a rod made of wood 4-4.5 cm long and 2-3 mm thick so that it protrudes 2-2.5 cm above the surface. Below a metal loop is attached. With a wire or a thin thread, both ends are tightened, aligned, and the entire structure is covered with a waterproof varnish.

    As a rod, you can take pieces of dried bamboo. A float made of kuga silently falls on the water, responds well to bites, and has little resistance, as it has a streamlined shape. Disadvantages - the fragility of the product and low weight.

    Cork

    The cork float is comparable in quality to the previously described bamboo float. To make such a product need to cook:

    • bamboo long rod;
    • cork olive;
    • loops with a wire rod.

    With the help of a clerical knife, a round blank is cut out of the cork and carefully rubbed with sandpaper. Holes (pores) must be covered with a waterproof compound, allowed to dry and sanded again. Then the disc is carefully degreased and covered with oil paint.

    Next, a hole is made in the cork and a bamboo or wooden rod is inserted, to which the shank of the hook No. 9-10 with a ring is first attached and the sting is bitten off - the hook will act as a hinge. A wire insulation is put on the dangling tube, which will hold the fishing line. The rod must be covered with drying oil and painted with two or three colors - it is recommended to use natural dark shades.

    How to ship a float from a cork to water? The first sinker, which is mounted near the hook, should dip the float 1/3 into the water, but without the olive. The second sinker, heavier, is mounted 10-15 cm higher than the previous one and almost the entire olive should be in the water. With bait, such a float will completely sink, leaving only half of the rod on the surface. When the fish bite and the olive appears above the water, it's time to cut.

    Perch fishing on ultralight. You can find a video and an article about it here.

    And in this article you will read about catching a night pike perch.

    From goose feather

    This type of float simplest. The pen must be carefully cleaned so as not to damage the base. Many use scissors, after which they carefully singe the excess with a lighter. The lower part is cut at an angle so that a tongue is obtained. It is bent, then a small wire ring is inserted, again the tongue is bent, this time completely, pressed against the rod and wound with a thread.

    The float needs to be painted, but it is not recommended to use bright shades. It is better to paint the product in two colors: the part immersed in water - a dark natural shade, the part located above the water - a bright shade. It is required to put on a rubber ring on the upper part, through which the fishing line will pass.

    For the flow

    Usually, for catching fish in the current, flat floats are selected, which today can be easily found in specialized stores. Cheap models do not always live up to expectations, and high-quality ones are very expensive. A flat float can be easily made on your own.

    Stage one- selection of material. It should be easily processed, not heavy, not soaked with water, not lose its properties after exposure to varnish or paint. The most suitable option is polypropylene. You will also need: nitro varnish, thin steel wire, glue.

    Stage two– choice of size and shape. The most optimal dimensions of the float for the flow: thickness - 6 mm, diameter - 60-65 mm. With these parameters, the load capacity will be 9-10 grams. The shape of the float is as follows: it is made in the form of a semicircle, while the flat edges should be slightly rounded (the greater the thickness, the greater the radius of curvature). The edges should also have a semicircular shape (achieved by sanding).

    Stage three- manufacturing. Having processed the workpiece, using a thin drill, two holes are drilled for the antenna and the keel, the angle between which is 35-40 degrees. The keel can be made of stainless wire with a diameter of 0.8-1 mm and a length of 35-40 cm. It is recommended to bend the shoulder on both sides for a more secure fixation. The fishing line will be attached to the rubber rings.

    Now it remains to glue the antenna and cover the product with nitro-lacquer. The required number of layers is 5-6. To make the float look good, it is recommended to paint it with paint with a dark natural shade.

    For long distance casting

    A float for long casting is made in the same way as a regular one, but it Bottom part should be an order of magnitude heavier (usually 20 grams or more). The blank is attached closer to the bottom of the product. The wide and heavy lower part will pull the rig along with it during the cast and guarantee stability in the water.

    For long casting, floats, as a rule, make one attachment point- from below. The length of the antenna can vary from 40 to 50 mm, the diameter is 5-6 mm. In some cases, in order to increase the sensitivity to bite, a composite antenna is made - the upper, narrower part, equal in length to 1/5 of the entire float.

    But the best option will use a sliding float, the manufacture of which is described below.
