Motorcycle category (BIKES)

For the first time, two Russian motorcycle racers took to the start at once, and both of them successfully finished today at the checkpoint in Rio Quarto: Alexander Ivanyutin and, representing the Moscow Police team at Dakar, rode Husqvarna motorcycles, which overcame the distance of the race without significant breakdowns. Ivanyutin showed his best result (22nd position) at the finish of SS5, one of the toughest special stages, which was shortened by the organizers due to extreme weather conditions in the mountains on the border of Bolivia and Argentina. Then, Sasha finished 23rd at the penultimate stage, on Friday, January 13th, which secured him 32nd place in the general classification. Nastya started climbing in the "MOTO" standings from 130th place and has reached the 75th position by today.

The official winner of the 2017 Dakar Rally Marathon in the motorcycle class was British motorcycle racer, representative of the KTM factory team Sam Sunderland, and his teammate Mattias Walkner became 2nd. The podium was completed by the representative of the independent team HIMOINSA Team KTM Gerard Farres Guell from Spain. Thus, this year the entire podium without exception was occupied by motorcycles from Mattighofen. Representatives of Yamaha, Honda and Husqvarna are located at 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th positions.

96 out of 143 people who started on January 2 from Asuncion, Bolivia reached the finish line, and three of them were officially withdrawn from the race because they did not complete SS11 on time (on Friday), but nevertheless reached the bivouac in Rio Quarto and were allowed to start by decision of the directorate.

Quad bike category (QUAD)

Here - absolute jubilation: 25-year-old Sergey Karyakin from Yekaterinburg triumphantly finished the race in 1st position. This is the first time in the history of Dakar that a Russian has won a race in the "motorcycle" category. The ATV classification appeared only in 2009, when the rally marathon moved from Africa across the ocean. Initially, this category was focused on numerous amateurs from South America. The debut victory was won by the Czech rider Josef Machacek. Then, for 5 years, local pilots captured the podium: the Argentines, the brothers Alejandro and Marcus Patronelli won 5 races for two, one - Ignacio Casal from Chile, in 2015 the European, Pole Rafal Sonic won.

Sergey Karjakin made his Dakar debut in the QUAD class in 2014 and made it to the finish line (7th) on his first attempt, winning one stage. The following year, due to lack of experience in such races, he dropped out of the fight due to a simple problem. In 2016, Karjakin confidently walked to the podium, but after an ambiguous decision by the commissars, he lost 3rd position just a day before the finish line, becoming 4th. This year, Karjakin won 3 stages, taking the lead in the general classification on the 4th day of the race, and starting from the first day of the second week, he never lost the leading position to his pursuers, who dropped out of the fight for victory one after another.

UTV category

A new Dakar ATV or SSV class for utility ATVs that have undergone significant sports training. Unlike buggies, UTVs don't have all the protection other than the roof, roll cage, and windshield, making it harder for crews to navigate than jeeps and buggies. At the same time, UTVs are slower than nimble selfish ATVs. 10 crews were announced for the start, however, on the very first day of A.S.O. moved two of them to the CARS category: these little buggies were based on Suzuki cars, while UTVs are supposed to be utility-born by regulation.

Of the 8 cars remaining in the standings, 4 kept moving to the finish line. In the UTV category, the Russian crew headed by Ravil Maganov, the navigator was Kirill Shubin, went to the start. The Xtreme Plus team started the race with a prologue victory and recorded 3 more stage wins, however, lost 2nd place in the general classification on the penultimate day, which was the most difficult of all.

The victory in the race was won by the Brazilian crew number "351", led forward by Leandro Torres, his navigator in this test was 59-year-old Lurival Roldan. Torres took the lead last Friday and held his position until the finish line thanks to a stable high results in TOP-3.

Another one phenomenal race factory rally project Peugeot!

Mr. Dakar - Stephane Petransel won a strong-willed victory over the strongest rivals from the world of WRC and rally: the second place in the race was won by the WRC world champion Sebastian Loeb, who lost only 5 minutes to the Frenchman in two weeks. Third place went to Cyril Despres, who changed 2 wheels to 4 three years ago. All three podium positions are behind Peugeot prototypes. Comments are superfluous.

The international, Russian-Latvian crew of KONTURTERM RACING Toyota, driven by Sergey Shikhotarov, successfully finished in 37th position. The crew of Denis Berezovsky and Alexey Nikizhev, who competed under the flag of Kazakhstan, finished the race a little better, in 29th place.

The first two places are again for the pilots of the Russian factory team KAMAZ-Master! Eduard Nikolaev took the second Dakar victory in his career, and Dmitry Sotnikov became the second with a small gap of 18 minutes 58 seconds from his colleague and partner.

Confident team actions of Russian racing drivers made it possible to get ahead of two IVECO crews. Airat Mardeev finished the race in 5th position, and the Belarusian MAZ under the control of Vasilevsky outperformed the Czech factory crew TATRA, driven by Loprais.

Russian finish in five categories

For the first time in history, Russian pilots were represented in all classes of the Dakar. Along with the experienced crews of the KAMAZ-master team and an experienced ATV Sergey Karyakin Dakar debutants participated in the race - duet Ravil Maganova And Kirill Shubin in the new UTV classification for the rally marathon, off-road rider Sergey Shikhotarov and motorcyclists Anastasia Nifontova And Alexander Ivanyutin. Fortunately, the newcomers passed the baptism of fire without losses - everyone made it to the finish line, like their more experienced colleagues.

Two wins and one podium for the Russians

The past rally marathon allowed KAMAZ-master to return to the top of the podium with a winning double: Eduard Nikolaev with the crew took his second golden Bedouin, and the trio Dmitry Sotnikov finished in second position. The Maganov/Shubin tandem won several special stages and finished third - very good result for beginners, even if not in the most populous class.

On the other hand, Sergey Karyakin could not complain about the lack of competition - a special stage won in the very first Dakar, two rally marathons full of problems and a well-deserved victory. On the fourth attempt, the first and so far the only Russian pilot on the Dakar in the ATV saddle achieved his goal and finished ahead of all his rivals.

Karjakin: it's hard to understand what it means to win Dakar

Demarch Stacey due to dissatisfaction with the organization of the race

We agree that the scandal could hardly be attributed to the positive aspects of the Dakar, but not in the case of Hansom Stacey.

The most experienced Dutchman, not the first time coming to the start of a rally marathon behind the wheel of a truck, became, perhaps, the first driver of such a level who so clearly focused attention on the problem in the camp of the organizers of the race.

From year to year, the participants of the rally-marathon declare something incomprehensible for such high level competitions of the organization of the race and illogical judicial decisions, but usually things did not go beyond words in press releases. Another thing is the MAN pilot in the 2017 season: he agreed on one thing, but at the start of the special stage they did it differently - Hans did not tolerate it and withdrew from the race. True, then he returned to it again, having received explanations from the organizers. Yes, Stacey went to the start of the remaining stages of the Dakar, and this somewhat crumpled the impressions of the Dutchman's demarche, but, on the other hand, Hans did what, obviously, many would like to do before.

"Dakar" cost no casualties

The race rightfully has the status of one of the most dangerous in the world, and almost every year someone dies at the Dakar - pilots or fans. Fortunately, in 2017 there were no fatal cases. Of course, there is no escape from accidents, especially in such long races in such difficult conditions for equipment and people, but the most important thing is that this time fortune took its tribute with crumpled iron, and not with human lives.

The fight between newcomers and "experienced"

Usually at the Dakar, the struggle for high positions in overall standings The races are run by seasoned rally marathon participants, but in 2017, newcomers also performed well. Naturally, they have previously “shot” at separate stages, while this time the debutants managed to prove themselves on the scale of the entire race. The Frenchman had a great Dakar Axel Dutrier in the ATV class - the pilot in his first rally marathon entered the top 5 according to the results of the entire distance. Another Frenchman on Yamaha, but this time from among motorcyclists - Adrien van Beveren- spent only the second Dakar, but took fourth place in the overall standings of his class and became the best of the representatives of the Japanese brand.

Peugeot domination

Of course, for Peugeot their second consecutive victory at the Dakar, and even with the podium completely occupied by the French pilots of the French team, is a super-positive event. But not for fans of a sharp struggle for positions until the very finish line. The new buggy turned out to be reliable, the pilots did not make critical mistakes (who made them got off), and the rivals could not boast of this. The leaders of Toyota were let down by technology and their own ardor, and MINI in the current composition, and even with a new car, could not claim high positions. As a result, the Peugeot pilots exchanged the best times on the special stages, occasionally allowing them to give the lead to the “side” - from the point of view of intrigue, this is not the best option.

Organization "Dakar"

From year to year, participants complain about how the organizers of the rally marathon make mistakes with navigation, make not the most thoughtful decisions regarding the cancellation of stages, or, on the contrary, adjust the route too late. Is it any wonder that someone, like Hans Stacy, runs out of patience in the race, and someone else before the start of the Dakar - and he prefers to show up for the Africa Eco Race taking place on the same dates. Obviously, it's time for the organizers to think and draw conclusions, otherwise you can completely lose your reputation and respect in the racing world.

controversial judging

In the 2016 race, the French Stefan Peterhansel refueled his Peugeot in the neutralization zone, but MINI's protest against this action was rejected. At Dakar 2017, a similar act was chalked up by the Honda motorcycle team, for which they were "awarded" with a temporary penalty - and one that KTM competitors considered too lenient. The ambiguity of interpretations of the rules, the lack of responsibility for one’s area of work (Karjakin’s problems are still fresh in his memory, when Sergey was tormented by the junk equipment provided by the organizers, for which the judges either kicked or took off time on the course) also do not paint a race of such a high rank.

The abundance of dangerous incidents

It seems that Dakar-2017 broke all records in terms of the number of dangerous situations that, by some miracle, did not lead to a tragedy. Peterhansel knocked down a motorcyclist, Loeb almost collected two ATVs, driving his buggy on a narrow and blind section of the route in the forehead of the “channel”, Shikhotarov ended up in a ravine, overtaking a truck, and another “truck” almost crushed the Finn Mikko Hirvonen on his MINI. Perhaps, there were no less similar moments in past races, but this time they all somehow turned out to be in the public eye, and thank God that their participants were able to tell about it personally…

Decrease in the number of Russians

It would seem a paradoxical situation - Russians participate in five out of five possible classes, but, unfortunately, there are fewer of ours at Dakar. Previously, there were almost more Russian crews in the off-road classification alone than in all other categories combined, but now there are more motorcyclists than racers in cars! I would like to believe that temporary difficulties are to blame and those Russians who participated in it before will return to the rally marathon. Russians in all classes are good, and if there are more than one in each category, even better!

At the beginning of the release, good news from Buenos Aires. There was the finish of the Dakar rally, and our athletes have a double victory. Firstly, in the standings of trucks, there were no equal crews of KamAZ-Master. The Russians have both gold and silver. And secondly, everyone is discussing the success of Sergey Karyakin. The full namesake of our chess player did not leave his opponents a chance and became the best on an ATV.

Sergey Karyakin, who won the Dakar rally, was the only Russian out of 37 participants entered in the ATV class. Karjakin is not really a novice. Furthermore, he was one of the favorites of the current season, having already participated in three Dakars since 2014. But before that, the best result is only seventh place.

Sergey Karyakin was preparing for this race in the sands in the snows of Yekaterinburg. In the same place, in his hometown, he assembled and improved his car, and he told in detail on his page on the Internet how everything happened. For example, I had to completely replace the gas tank so that there was enough fuel for the stages of the race. I took only 56 spare wheels with me. After each stage, I had to change all four at once.

There were also classes in gym. To ride in the sand, according to the experience of past races, I had to strengthen my hands by hitting the wheel with sledgehammers. These classes then helped at the stages repeatedly. “I got a little tired at the end, not only tired, but already tired of such a jitter. The suspension overheated later. There were very large boulders on the road. The last moment the front bumper hit the rut. It’s still hot outside, 48 degrees,” said the winner.

Sergey Karyakin is the namesake of our famous grandmaster, who recently fought for the world champion crown. Moreover, both Sergey were born in January, however, with a difference of a year. The famous chess player - in 1990, and the current winner of the Dakar - in 1991. By the way, his birthday is very soon, on the 25th.

In the standings of ATVs, the Russian became the best for the first time in the history of this race. And it has been running since 1979.

But they are pumping the champion of Dakar-2017 pilot Eduard Nikolaev. Together with his co-drivers Yevgeny Yakovlev and Vladimir Rybakov, he returned the first place to KamAZ, which the team had lost last season.

“In fact, this year the Dakar has changed. Last year it was faster, this year it is real. As it is called the Paris-Dakar rally. Thanks to our team. Many thanks to the mechanics for the fruitful work. For the whole year of work,” said Eduard Nikolaev.

Despite the name "Dakar", the rally has not been held for many years either in the city of Dakar or in the territory of African Senegal in general. Since 2008, this competition, once invariably started in Paris, was moved to Paris due to the threat of terrorist attacks. South America. This year, happy for both Sergey Karyakin and the KamAZ team, another crew of which took second place, the route passed through Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia.

This time this complicated stage race off-road, did without tragic incidents. Although there were falls, and injuries, and overturned cars, and even a motorcyclist hit by a truck, whom the riders themselves took to the hospital.

In general, in the entire history of the Dakar, 71 people died. The last death happened in 2015, when a Polish motorcycle racer lost in the sands was found only a few days after the completion of the next stage. He died of dehydration.

The organizers have already recognized the tears of our motorcycle racer Anastasia Nifontova as the most touching moment of the rally. At one of the stages, she fell and was unable to lift the motorcycle. According to the rules, cameramen did not have the right to help her - only the participants in the race. But they all passed by. Everyone except the Frenchman Gregory Mora. However, this help final result Anastasia was not affected. She, unlike our men, never got to the prize-winning place.

On the final special stage Rio Cuarto - Buenos Aires, 64 km long, the Russian KAMAZ-Master crew, consisting of pilot Eduard Nikolaev, navigator Evgeny Yakovlev and mechanic Vladimir Rybakov, showed the best result. They were 33 seconds ahead of their compatriot Airat Mardeev in another KAMAZ. The third time on account of the Argentinean Federico Villagra on Iveco, who lost 1 minute 25 seconds to Nikolaev.

On this moment only five trucks passed through the special stage and the results of this particular stage may still change.

In the overall standings, Eduard Nikolaev guaranteed himself the second victory in his career at the Dakar as a pilot. He last won the race in 2013. In addition, Nikolaev won the marathon as a mechanic in 2010. Second place in the overall standings went to another KAMAZ driver, Dmitry Sotnikov. The third place was taken by last year's Dakar triumphant Dutchman Gerard de Rooy on Iveco.

Nikolaev's victory was the 14th for KAMAZ in the entire history of the team's performance at the Dakar in the truck standings.

The results of the largest rally-marathon "Dakar-2017" became known on Saturday, after the completion of the last short 64-kilometer special stage. For Russian athletes, who now “closed” all categories of vehicles in the marathon, this year was especially successful: none of our crews retired during the marathon, the same applies to MAZ crews from Belarus and two crews of the Astana Motorsport team from Kazakhstan - all successfully finished.

Dakar-2017 turned out to be very difficult. According to the organizers, it was one of the most difficult Dakars in history. The weather conditions made certain adjustments to the plans of the riders for the result, many potential leaders left or remained far at the bottom of the standings.

Many were dissatisfied with the extreme conditions that the Bolivian sites offered us - rains, mudflows, landslides. But that's why Dakar is extreme in order to overcome these barriers. Of course for sports management the rally was difficult to bear all this and coordinate the logistics of the competition, but when everything goes smoothly, it is, unfortunately, then not the Dakar. I am satisfied with this extreme component and the race, - said sports director rally-marathon "Dakar" Mark Koma.

In addition, our athletes "took" three podiums at once: Ravil Maganov and Kirill Shubin in the new category all-terrain vehicles took third place. Even despite the fact that only 4 crews eventually finished in this category, Maganov and Shubin rode not only with dignity, but beautifully! 4 times they showed best time on SU - none of their rivals can boast of this. Unfortunately, at the penultimate, 11th stage, already in the neutralization zone, the variator first shattered, followed by the front gearbox. A lot of time was lost, because of this they rolled back one place lower. But in any case, Ravil Maganov showed that the capabilities of their crew are very high.

Ravil Maganov: “Of course we wanted to take first place, not third. We had everything for this, but there were some technical difficulties. In any case, we are satisfied. Third place is better than being outside the top three. Every day at the Dakar was difficult in its own way and wonderful in its own way. I understood all the difficulties of the UTV category, but I was ready for them. We have everything ahead of us.”

Trucks "KAMAZ-master" at "Dakar-2017" regained the title of champions and once again confirmed that they are the best in the world rally-raids. A large, powerful and well-trained factory team with vast experience in marathons and the Dakar could not show itself otherwise!

Nevertheless, the rivals of KAMAZ-master were serious. The fate of the race was decided almost at its last stages, and the skills and knowledge of navigators played a huge role in the victory of our crews.

At the finish of the Dakar, the crew of Eduard Nikolaev, Evgeny Yakovlev and Vladimir Rybakov became the first in the truck standings, the crew of Dmitry Sotnikov, Ruslan Akhmadeev and Igor Leonov took second place. Third place in a bitter struggle was won by the Dutchman Gerard De Rooy (IVECO). The crew of Airat Mardeev became the fifth in the race. The crew of the fast "technical" Anton Shibalov finished the race in 19th position.

The Belarusian team "MAZ-SPORTavto" at the current "Dakar" showed top scores for all the years of performance, rising to 6th place in the final position among trucks. Crew No. 522, driven by Alexander Vasilevsky, broke the previous team record: in 2015, his crew took 10th place here. During the race, the Belarusians finished 12 times in the Top 10, and Sergei Vyazovich had the most such finishes - 7. His crew took the 13th position in the overall standings. Alexey Vishnevskoy finished the rally-raid in 21st place.

The cargo crew of Artur Ardavichus (navigator Serge Brinkens and mechanic Michael Huisman in a MAN TGS) completed the Dakar in 26th place. The first stages of the crew were among the dozens of leaders, but after the passage of the caravan through the mountains of Bolivia, there was a technical problem with the turbine and the system that controlled the movement at mountain heights turned off, which eventually led to a 12-hour fine, after which the crew ended up on the 39th place and all the remaining stages carefully made up for the lost. As a result, we managed to win back 13 positions!

ATVs

There is another reason to be proud and happy for Russian athletes. The absolutely incredible victory of Sergei Karyakin from Yekaterinburg in the ATV standings, on the one hand, is completely natural, but on the other hand, Sergei's fans were afraid to believe in it until the last moment, because Sergei's team is small and private. In total, there are 5 people in the team, including Sergey: manager and coach, winner of the World Rally Championship stages Alexander Dorosinsky, mechanics Sergey Govorukhin and Vladimir Oleinikov, director Alexei Shmotiev.

For Karjakin, this is the fourth Dakar, he made his debut in 2014, finished safely, then retired in 2015, a bronze podium in 2016, and now - a well-deserved victory!

For a long time, his participation in this "Dakar" was generally in doubt - due to financial difficulties. Nevertheless, support came to Sergey from Fores, and he started in the hardest marathon in the world. Of course, he faced thousands of difficulties, but in the end he won the stage three times, and starting from the 8th SS, he led the final classification of the marathon and no longer left the leaders. The Chilean Ignacio Casale, who finished in 2nd place, was 1 hour 14 minutes behind our athlete. And the representative of Argentina, Pablo Copetti, lost to the Russian at all 4 hours!

Sergey Karyakin: “This is the end of the Dakar, the final that we all dreamed of for so long. We won despite everything, we won by an hour and a half. Our team worked at 200%. And it was worth it. It is a worthy and difficult victory. The Fores company and Alexey Shmotiev personally said that a rider from Russia should take part in the ATV standings, and provided us with the necessary budget. We fulfilled our end of the bargain and won. Thanks to them for this, thanks to the team for the victory - it was very hard for them, just like me.

Moto

Two Russian athletes- Alexander Ivanyutin and Anastasia Nifontova. They completed the entire marathon route and finished safely, with Nastya placing second in the women's standings behind Laya Sanz and 75th overall. Alexander Ivanyutin became the 32nd and one of the best Dakar debutants!

I must say that a total of 9 women participated in the Dakar-2017, in the Moto category - three of them, while the category among women was considered common for motorcycles and ATVs.

A lot of people left the race, including because they felt bad, - said Anastasia Nifontova. - Therefore, of course, I feel some sense of pride that I was able to overcome all this and finish, and even take second place among the girls. In general, a large percentage of riders who participate in the Dakar for the first time, in principle, do not reach the finish line. So the achievement is that we got there the first time. As for Sasha, he showed a very good result, because only factory racers who have both training and experience are ahead of him.

Auto

In the automobile category, the now 13-time Dakar winner Stefan Petransel once again proved that he is the best, winning 5.13 minutes from Sebastien Loeb. The third was Cyril Despres. Russian crew Sergey Shikhotarov and Oleg Uperenko also successfully finished the marathon and took the overall 37th place in the final standings of cars and 16th in their class.

Sergey Shikhotarov: “The Dakar is over, and now, after the finish, I am already making plans for the future. At the finish of the special stage it was joyful, and before the podium there was just some kind of calm. I like that our team did their job smoothly and clearly. Thanks to everyone who cheered for us. We did what we had to. To be honest, I did not follow the positions during the race. Our mission was different. We just had to get through the race and achieve a team result."

The passenger crew of the Astana Motorsport team, consisting of pilot Denis Berezovsky and navigator Alexei Nikizhev, took third place in the race in the class of standard T2 cars.
