Figure skating final results of the world championships. Four rotation falls

— How should we perceive the level of the last World Cup? During the Olympic season, its status drops somewhat due to the absence of a number of strong athletes.

“Nevertheless, he remained tall.” Yes, a number of leaders were absent, but this does not mean that this is bad. Now a new Olympic quadrennial has begun. Those who wanted to take a worthy position in this race had to come to Milan to feel their strength and establish themselves in the eyes of the judges. This will help you get into the leadership group by Beijing 2022. And now those who are finishing their careers or recovering from injuries have not come. The Post-Olympic World Championship is not the last tournament of the old quadrennial, but the first in the new cycle.

— That is, his awards should be valued as highly as at all other world forums?

- Absolutely, there should be no difference.

— Did Kolyada come as a surprise to you after he didn’t perform very well at the Olympics?

— Kolyada is still technically very well equipped. He has three quadruple jump, excellent glide, wonderful technique. Another issue is that he almost never gets to demonstrate what he does in training. His coaches need to think about how to ensure that the athlete realizes his full potential. In Milan, Kolyada also did not show everything he was capable of, but this was enough for third position, since his opponents made very serious mistakes. Nathan Chen, who was two heads taller than everyone else, won, followed by those who made fewer mistakes.

— A short program without a quadruple Lutz helped Kolyada qualify for a medal. Maybe he should skate easier, but without mistakes?

“I don’t think you should always be careful.” In this case it worked, but it's all individual. I think that Kolyada should have performed like this at the Olympics in the team tournament. It was necessary not to aim for the maximum, but to do only what you could guarantee. Maybe then our team’s position would have been different. And in individual competitions, in most cases you need to fight to the fullest. You are responsible only for yourself, not for the team. Now Kolyada and his coaches decided to do differently, and since it worked, honor and praise to them.

“You know, if grandma had a mustache, she would be grandpa.” It is better not to talk about this in the subjunctive mood.

This is Aliyev’s debut senior season, he was lucky to compete at the Olympics and feel it. It will now be easier for him to prepare for the next start in Beijing. He already knows what it is, what a nervous situation there is.

For Aliyev, this year was a test of his pen, and in some places he performed very well, in others not bad. In total, it turns out that this season turned out to be good for the skater.

— Is three quotas for men at the next World Championship a success?

“I don’t understand why we pay so much attention to these quotas.” It is necessary to evaluate not their number, but those who are able to fight for medals. For example, previously we had three pairs in pair skating who competed for medals, and full representation was very necessary. And if we are talking about disciplines in which we are conditionally fighting for places from third to twentieth, then why are these three quotas needed? Well, yes, it’s good that they exist.

I don’t know what the balance of power will be next season, what will happen to our boys and rivals. Perhaps the situation will change. Three quotas will only make their drawing less nerve-wracking. Although I think the fewer tickets, the more serious the struggle will be and the higher the result. In general, I would not assess the three men's quotas for the next World Cup as something super positive. This is not an easy question.

— I don’t consider Zagitova’s defeat critical. She had a difficult season, her first at the senior level, and she immediately fell into the “meat grinder,” that is, she began to fight for medals in the largest tournaments. Not everyone can withstand this, even people with enormous experience. Carolina Costner has been riding for so many years top level, but her nerves couldn’t stand it either.

What can we say about a 15-year-old girl who has almost no experience. It's not a disaster, it just didn't work out. But Zagitova won the Olympics - main tournament her life. This is more important than all the successes and failures in other competitions. Soon no one will remember that she lost the World Cup. And the golden one olympic medal she will always have it.

— Can we say that now Zagitova will have motivation for the next season, that this defeat can bring some benefit?

— If an athlete stays in the zone, then yes, it motivates. But our girls have a difficult situation. They won their victories when they were not yet fully formed and had not gone through the so-called puberty. Zagitova also needs to go through this. After the Olympics, she grew by two to three centimeters at once. Her figure will change and she will have to fight her weight. All this comes down to a tremendous amount of work in training.

We see the example of Evgenia Medvedeva, who led the world for two years, and the period of growing up began in the Olympic season. She had to artificially restrain herself, limit her food intake, and this ultimately led to injury in the first half of the season. It's difficult to make wishes about girls. I would like Zagitova to continue skating like this, she is very gifted, talented and efficient. But we will soon find out whether she will be able to overcome issues related to natural factors.

— Was it worth it for Zagitova to go to this World Championship at the peak of her fame?

— It’s better to ask the leadership of the Russian Figure Skating Federation or its coaches.

— Can we say that the couple Evgeny Tarasov - Vladimir Morozov has achieved the maximum, becoming second after Alena Savchenko and Bruno Massot, who now look invincible?

— The Germans really performed at this tournament and at the Olympics at the maximum level, which is inaccessible to competitors. So Tarasova and Morozov achieved good result, winning silver medals. They are young athletes who have taken a step forward compared to last year when they took bronze. As I understand it, this couple is thinking about the next Olympics.

It is past defeats that should serve as a lesson for their future career. Now Tarasova and Morozov are gathering baggage that will help in the uncompromising struggle for gold in Beijing. By all accounts, in Pyeongchang it was still too early for them to think about it, both because of their age and experience. They are great, they are progressing, but this was not their Olympics yet.

- After short program it seemed that Natalya Zabiyako and Alexander Enbert could compete for bronze medals, but they still ended up fourth behind Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres, who had both a fall and a landing on their arm. In what ways were the French stronger than the Russians?

— James and Sipre already have sports experience; they trained both in Moscow and in the USA with leading specialists. They have accumulated a lot of knowledge and understand how to put on a production for the public and get bonuses for applause. This also affects the judges. The French were a head or two taller than Zabiyako and Enbert.

The Russian couple is technically competent, they do lifts, twists and throws, but they have problems with the Salchow. But overall, James and Cipres had more reason to be ahead. They were not so invincible this season, and it was not Zabiyako and Enbert who lost to them, but the French who won because they skated more for the audience, they have an entertaining program.

The first after the record holders: Tarasova and Morozov became silver medalists at the World Figure Skating Championships in Milan

Russian figure skaters Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov took silver at the World Championships in the pairs competition. They gave in...

— There was a lot of talk about the fact that Russian couples do not have the most successful programs...

“Our couples need to think about what kind of performances they had in the Olympic season. They didn't get it right with the rentals. They were not noticed at all at the Games; they were not exactly the product that one would like to see at a sports festival.

— In ice dancing among Russian duets How can you evaluate this, taking into account the fact that Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyov did not perform, and Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin returned after missing the Olympics?

— I try to speak carefully about this discipline. This is a slightly different sport. If you remember, previously dancing was generally separated from singles and pairs skating. This time I watched short and free dances. Our duos need to do a lot of work to get closer to the level of today's leaders. If we talk specifically about whether the current result is good or bad, then I will choose the second option. Previously, our dancers were trendsetters, won tournaments, but now we are discussing seventh and eighth places.

— What needs to be done to correct the situation?

— This is a difficult question, everyone thinks about it: both specialists and the leadership of the Russian Figure Skating Federation. But there is no particular progress in this direction. The presence of Bobrova and Solovyov would hardly have changed the balance of power much. Maybe they would be one or two positions higher, but this is still not a fight for the podium. We need to take some global steps.

Our couples look good, with good programs and suits, but there is no competitiveness. It’s difficult for me to judge ice dancing, I haven’t delved into it, but I see the result. It brings sadness. I would like the dances to move forward, as men, girls, and couples do. To be honest, I don’t know what needs to be done for this. But something needs to be done.

- Both Russian duets are quite young, their time should not be lost yet...

— Yes, they are young, but I repeat: I don’t know exactly what they need to do. You can’t just improve something; your opponents are doing the same thing. If everyone moves at the same speed, then we will remain in our old positions. We need not ordinary steps forward, but giant ones, this is the only way to cross the abyss that separates us from the podium.

From March 19 to 25, 2018, the World Figure Skating Championships were held in the Italian city of Milan. Among all participants, 4 sets of medals were played in such disciplines as: men's singles and women's skating, pair skating and ice dancing. It is also worth noting that the Russian team was represented by 15 athletes.

World Figure Skating Championships 2018 results: achievements and failures of athletes from Russia

15 athletes took part in the 2018 World Figure Skating Championships, they managed to earn only 2 medals: 1 silver and 1 bronze award. The duo of Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov won silver, among sports pairs in the free program - they scored 225.53 points. Mikhail Kolyada brought the bronze medal for the team in the men's solo free program; he set a score of 272.32.

The rest of the skaters failed to win prizes. In the women's solo box office, the girls made mistakes one after another. Maria Sotskova was the first to take to the ice, a couple of mistakes and several falls, resulting in only 8th place. The next performer was Stanislava Konstantinova, who replaced Evgenia Medvedeva, however, she could not surprise, and as a result, she was in 19th position. Well, the last one to take to the ice was the favorite of the 2018 World Cup, Alina Zagitova, but she couldn’t withstand the stress, fell several times and these falls dropped her to 5th place.

In men's free skating, Dmitry Aliev took 7th position. It is also worth noting that in sports pairs in the free program, the duet of Natalia Zabiyako and Alexander Enbert became 4th, and the pair of Kristina Astakhova and Alexey Rogonov secured 8th position.

On the last day of the 2108 World Cup, ice dancing competitions took place. The Russian team was represented by 2 duets Alexandra Stepanova/Ivan Bukin and Tiffany Zagorski/Jonathan Gureiro. The first pair took 7th position, and the second one took 8th place.

Russian figure skaters completed their performance at the final world championship before the 2018 Olympic Games. In Helsinki, the team repeated the results of the two previous seasons.

Russian skaters finished their performance on the final stage Olympic Games 2018 World Championships. In Helsinki, the team repeated the results of the two previous seasons, winning one gold and one bronze medal.

World Figure Skating Championships 2017. Helsinki (Finland). March 29 - April 2. Russian national team composition:

The highest award with another world record for the team was brought by Evgenia Medvedeva, for whom the World Championship gold was the second in her career. Another medal for the team was won by the sports couple Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov, who also became the best at the European Championship this season.

In men's single skating Russian figure skaters Mikhail Kolyada and Maxim Kovtun, even with a clean skate, would not be able to qualify for medals, since the set of technical elements of the leaders of world figure skating today significantly exceeds the capabilities of the Russians. Taking into account the fact that they were unable to skate their programs flawlessly, Russian champion Kolyada and two-time silver medalist of the European Championship Kovtun took the final eighth and 11th places, respectively.

In ice dancing, everything turned out to be completely predictable: shortly before the start of the World Championships, Olympic silver medalist, choreographer Ilya Averbukh warned that the distribution of medals would depend on behind-the-scenes games. If gold returned to sports Olympic champions from Canada Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir and the silver of the French Gabriela Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron are beyond doubt, then in the matter of awarding bronze, not everything is so clear. Americans Maya and Alex Shibutani took third place, but what is noteworthy is the fact that the difference between third and seventh place was slightly more than three points. Russians Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyov, who finished fifth, also ended up without medals.

“You don’t have to be a Russian couple to get into the top three,” said the coach of the Russian duet Alexander Zhulin. “Yes, in 2006 it was different, and in what year were sanctions introduced? Now it’s not fashionable to be Russian, unless you need to be Evgenia Medvedeva, which “I can’t think of anything else.”

The second Russian duet Alexandra Stepanova/Ivan Bukin is not yet among the leaders in ice dancing, so the final tenth place of the athletes can be considered an acceptable result.

Couples insured women

By by and large, Russian figure skaters failed twice at the World Championships. For the first time this happened in pair skating with Olympic champions in the team tournament Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov, who, as their partner put it, “drove through the butt” of the short program. The second breakdown occurred in the silver medalist of this year’s European Championship, Anna Pogorilaya.

The figure skater went to the World Championships with serious aspirations for victory, but at the very beginning of the free skate she lost her lutz, then landed unsuccessfully on a flip and then had difficulty finishing her performance, making several more mistakes. Immediately after the end of the rental, she knelt down and burst into tears. As a result, she dropped from fourth place to 13th. The third Russian figure skater, Maria Sotskova, who spent her debut season at the adult level, became eighth.

Unlike the two previous world championships, for the first time in women's single skating, Russians won one medal. Before this, the gold awards of Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Medvedeva were alternately supplemented by the bronze awards of Elena Radionova and Pogoril. Now the lack of a second award in women's skating was compensated for by the third place of Tarasova and Morozov.

The value of this bronze is added by the fact that on the day of the short program, the partner accidentally cut Tarasova’s leg in the knee area during training, which called into question the pair’s participation in the tournament. However, the skater decided not to miss the championship and twice went on the ice with stitches on the wound. Another Russian couple, Natalya Zabiyako/Alexander Enbert, was in 12th place, and Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov managed to pull themselves together the next day after the disastrous performance of their short program and eventually rose from 13th place to fifth.

Two quotas were missing

At the World Championships in Helsinki, not only medals were awarded, but also trips to the Olympics. In total, the team won ten Olympic quotas; the team was missing one place in men's single skating and ice dancing. The largest representation of the country in each discipline is three skaters or pairs (duets). To do this, athletes had to take first or second place, or perform in such a way that the sum of two best places, which the athletes took, was less than or equal to 13.

On the last competitive day of the 2017 World Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki, Russian figure skaters had almost no chance of winning medals. Miracles sometimes happen, but for this you need to be prepared. In men's skating, our athletes turned out to be generally uncompetitive, but our opponents showed top-class performances. It’s difficult to talk about ice dancing, because everything is not decided on the ice.

Four rotation falls

In men's skating, even with perfect skating Mikhail Kolyada and Maxim Kovtun there was not the slightest chance of medals. Our guys are hopelessly behind their competitors, who, even during the season, can learn a new quad and insert it into the program, but the Russians don’t even do the jumps they’ve been training for years.

Kolyada and Kovtun are skaters of a good level, but men's skating has stepped far forward, and they have remained at the same level since the times of Evgeni Plushenko.

End of story? Evgeni Plushenko ended his career

Bright victories, poor health, a place at the 2014 Olympics, screws in the back and scandals - what the most titled figure skater in Russia remembers.

Mikhail, in his willfulness, went for a four-turn Lutz, which he had never landed at official starts. He didn’t get that jump even now, and on top of that, he didn’t even do a three-and-a-half axel.

Maxim did not do the declared cascade, but for some reason he attached a double sheepskin coat to a triple Salchow and was left without an element at all, since the jump was unnecessary.

With an absolutely clean performance of the declared programs, Russian skaters could probably compete for sixth and seventh places, which in total would give three tickets to the Olympics. However, there are no athletes in Russia who can qualify for world championship medals. And not only among those who are skating now, but also among the nearest reserve. Kolyada and Kovtun retained the quota of two places, and thank you for that.

This is some kind of space

What the skaters performing in men's skating showed in the last warm-up will go down in history.

Viewers will probably remember how the 17-year-old American Nathan Chen I went for six (!) quadruples in the free program, and completed everything! Yes, he fell from two jumps, but that's not that important. Chen and his coach Rafael Harutyunyan They understood perfectly well that only six quadruples would leave a chance in the fight for a medal.

The American is very young, but there is no doubt that he will have enough strength and health to bring the crazy complexity of the program to shine. The Canadian also competed in three quadruples in the fight for a medal Patrick Chan, and for him these three jumps are even more of a feat than six for Chen. Neither one nor the other won any awards in the end, but only because their opponents showed a simply exorbitant level.

Hanyu created on the ice like an artist, while the rest, although they skated amazingly, still struggled for height and purity.

What the Japanese Olympic champion Sochi did Yuzuru Hanyu, defies description at all. The entire program was performed so cleanly, including four quadruple jumps, among which was the most difficult loop, that the audience froze in anticipation of the scores. Just like they froze after the rental Evgenia Medvedeva in the women's tournament. And they were not mistaken, as Hanyu set a new world record.

Double! The triumph of Medvedeva and the tragedy of Pogorilaya

Falls, torn elements, hysterics on the ice. This is not about Evgenia Medvedeva, but she had to skate after what Anna Pogorilaya did.

Yes, he couldn’t help but install it. Hanyu created on the ice like an artist, while the rest, although they skated amazingly, still struggled for height and purity. And the Japanese seemed to disappear into the music and reappear only when it stopped sounding. He became a two-time world champion, and rightfully so.

Another Japanese Soma Uno, showed that you can fight Hanyu, but to do this you need to do everything flawlessly. Uno made minor mistakes, which in total cost him the championship title. But both his program and the Chinese program Boyana Jina, which eventually became the third, are real masterpieces. At the Olympics in Pyeongchang, apparently, there will be a terrible showdown in men's skating, at an exorbitant level.

One point to the third quota

The World Championships in Helsinki ended with competitions of dance duets. This is probably the most beautiful figure skating discipline and, without a doubt, with the most subjective judging.

Evaluations in ice dancing will never be objective, but you can at least try to make sure that there is no loud bewilderment and dissatisfaction

The audience stood up after a wonderful performance Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyov. In terms of emotions and sensations, this was their best free dance of the season. They conveyed the music simply superbly. But the judges decided otherwise, and although they rated the skating of the Russian champions a little higher than at the January European Championships in Ostrava, up to best result during the season the skaters lacked 1.24 points.

Even after short dance many were bewildered regarding the grades given, let alone the colossal advantage of the Olympic champions in Vancouver Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir could not be explained logically at all, but after the arbitrary exercise everything fell into place. Wonderful rental of the French Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, after which half the audience in Helsinki cried, could not be assessed as anything other than a world record.

And the flawed performance of Virtue and Moira was assessed just enough so that the total amount was enough to win. Even with a partner falling at the exit from the element. It was painful to watch the French after all the scores were announced. They deserved a third championship title in a row, since no one had ever skated at this level, but...

The Olympics are just under a year away, and during this time the national federations must work seriously. Evaluations in ice dancing will never be objective, but you can at least try to make sure that there is no loud bewilderment and dissatisfaction.
