The Russian national team, based on the results of two sprint races in Kontiolahti, announced the composition for the starting stages of the World Cup. Several stars did not get there at once, including world champions and.

The most honest and open

It was definitely the most open and fair selection in Russian history. In two sprint races, virtually any athlete able to get to Finland could participate. Here are the participants of the main and reserve teams, and biathletes admitted separately.

20 points for first place in the race and further down. The six athletes with the most points in the two races were to go to the World Cup, the next six to the IBU Cup. Only one place was given to the coaching council, which eventually used its privilege only in the women's team. I received a ticket "out of competition". For men, everything remained in strict accordance with the results and without discounts on regalia.

It is not known what results this updated team will show at the start of the season. It is entirely possible that they are not shiny. But at least the coaching staff can be applauded for their integrity. Russian biathlon has long been famous for intrigues and behind-the-scenes struggle for a place in the squad. Now this " dark side"was completely eliminated.

Babikov - in reserve, Tsvetkov - at the Russian Cup

The main "victims" of the new system were reigning champions world relay - Anton Babikov and Maxim Tsvetkov. Both failed two races, never even hitting the top six. Babikov was slightly better, reaching seventh place in the second sprint, and eventually qualified for at least the IBU Cup. Tsvetkov, with "zero" qualifying points, generally remained the last among the participants. Sochi Olympic champion Aleksey Volkov is also not far away - he has only three points in two races.

The coaching council showed integrity and did not invite titled athletes even to the IBU Cup. Tsvetkov and Volkov will begin the season at the Russian Cup, where they can get out at best at the end of December on the Izhevsk Rifle. As practice shows, it will be extremely difficult to do this. There are many examples when one unsuccessful selection in November actually crossed out the entire season. Although to believe in the resurrection of Tsvetkov with Volkov, of course, it is better to the last.

Shipulin vacated the seat until January

Best Russian biathlete decades had a guaranteed place at the base, regardless of the selection. But in the end, Anton decided not to compete in either two races in Kontiolahti or the December World Cup. Instead, he will continue to train with the reserve team and start the season with the IBU Cups and Izhevsk Rifles.

Shipulin's decision is, in fact, very honest and logical. Anton until the last doubted whether it was worth continuing his career, and as a result, he missed the entire block of summer training. You could, of course, use your right and get in shape through the stages of the World Cup. But this, firstly, is morally difficult - Shipulin does not suit places in the third or fourth tens, and secondly, it is wrong in relation to teammates. Shipulin made the only right choice and gave way to those who plowed for him all summer in training. Anton can return to the World Cup at any time, as soon as he feels ready. Most likely, he will not force the form and will focus on January. He still manages to gain optimal conditions for the World Cup.

Mystery women

The women's team is still the most mysterious. More than half of the squad are World Cup debutantes, the leader in the selections - who returned from a doping disqualification. However, it seems that the leaders here will change in every race. Almost no one showed stable results in Kontiolahti, even the experienced first sprint won, and the second failed with four misses.

Kaisheva, our best biathlete following the results of the Olympics in Pyeongchang, is approaching the season in incomprehensible conditions. She got into the squad only by the decision of the coaching council and did not shine with either shooting or speed on the track. But it is likely that before the start of the World Cup or immediately after it, the situation will change.

Reportage site

On November 15 and 17 in Finnish Kontiolahti will be held qualifying starts, the result of which will determine the composition of the team for the first stages of the World Cup.

Both races will be sprint races, only the first one is in shape control training, and the second sprint within the local international biathlon competitions.

24 men and 21 women will take part in the selection - an unprecedented number of real candidates for the team. The declared selection criteria are unique for our team, I can’t remember a season when control starts were almost the only selection criterion, and even if they were held with the participation of regional athletes. For the past few years, participants have been selected by coaches or selected through conditional control races only from among athletes undergoing centralized training.

The night before, more than 50 people gathered for a team meeting and general photography. By the way, Main coach team Anatoly Khovantsev, in addition to organizational issues, warned about doping control, which can arrive (and most likely will arrive) on any day.

According to the results of two races, the four best biathletes will be the basis of the male team, one more athlete will be selected by the decision of the coaching council. The basis women's team according to the results of two races, five best biathletes will get there, one more athlete will be chosen by the decision of the coaching council.

The right to speak at the first stages of the World Cup without selection is Olympic champion Anton Shipulin, who finished last season in the top 3 of the World Cup.

However, the national team coach Anatoly Khovantsev believes that there is no need for Anton to compete in December - he has only recently started full-fledged training. And in the qualifying starts, his participation is also not planned.

Participants of control starts

Ekaterina Yurlova, Uliana Kaisheva, Evgenia Pavlova, Margarita Vasilyeva, Svetlana Mironova, Anastasia Morozova, Victoria Slivko, Kristina Reztsova, Irina Kazakevich, Tamara Voronina, Valeria Vasnetsova, Alexandra Alekseshnikova, Natalya Ushkina, Natalia Gerbulova, Kristina Ilchenko, Irina Starykh, Leysan Biktasheva, Kristina Smirnova, Ekaterina Moshkova, Ekaterina Zubova, Olga Dmitrieva.

In Kontiolahti it is warm and damp, but the track is more or less safe, because it has a cooled base. All day today they carried snow on it - preparations are underway for the competitions on October 17 and 18. On the first day of this competition Russian athletes they will run a sprint, and in the second there will be a pursuit race, where our participants will no longer be.

The organizers say that they do not remember such a warm autumn for a long time, almost the entire supply of snow has already been selected from two giant snow storages.

If the Internet works at the stadium tomorrow, which I deeply hope for (yesterday I worked, today for some reason I don’t), I will try to keep it online on Instagram and give up-to-date information here.

Match TV is also expected, there will be a story about the selections for sure.

Well, you already understood the main thing: winter is approaching, it is already very close!

The composition of the Russian biathlon team for the 2018-2019 season has been approved. The colors of the national flag will be protected by the best of the best. They will have to perform at the largest biathlon tournaments: and. Who became these lucky ones? How has the line-up and coaching staff changed? And which biathletes can be called the leaders of the renewed Russian team?

The composition of the Russian men's biathlon team in the season 2018 - 2019

The team consists of eight athletes. Here is their complete list:

  • Anton Shipulin;
  • Alexander Loginov;
  • Anton Babikov;
  • Maxim Tsvetkov;
  • Evgeny Garanichev;
  • Dmitry Malyshko;
  • Pyotr Pashchenko;
  • Semyon Suchilov.

There are several changes from the previous season. The new composition of the Russian biathlon team 2018-2019 does not include Alexey Volkov, Yuri Shopin and Matvey Eliseev. Their places were taken by Semyon Suchilov, Pyotr Pashchenko and Dmitry Malyshko. However, Matvey Eliseev is in the application of the reserve team. Alexei Volkov may also return to the national team. To do this, he needs to show good results in the qualifying tournament, which will be held in November 2018.

Anton Shipulin is the first star of the Russian men's team. The main hopes of the coaching staff and fans are pinned on him. Last season, Russia took 3rd place in the Nations Cup standings. In many ways, our country owes this result to Shipulin. I would very much like his teammates to try to perform no worse than their star partner!

The guys will be trained by the legend of the Soviet biathlon Anatoly Khovantsev. In his new post, he replaced the tandem of Ricco Gross and Sergei Konovalov. Khovantsev is a very experienced specialist. In 2010-2011, he had the opportunity to lead the women's national team.

The composition of the Russian women's biathlon team in the season 2018 - 2019

The women's team also consists of eight athletes. Here is its composition:

  • Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht;
  • Uliana Kaisheva;
  • Daria Virolainen;
  • Anastasia Egorova;
  • Margarita Vasilyeva;
  • Svetlana Mironova;
  • Larisa Kuklina;
  • Anastasia Morozova.

In the new version main team there was no place for Victoria Slivko, Irina Uslugina, Olga Podchufarova, Irina Starykh, Tatyana Akimova. From the previous composition, only Daria Virolainen and Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht remained. The rest of the participants of the 2017/18 season, except for Victoria Slivko, are not even in the reserve.

Apparently, major changes are associated with bad results. In the final ten overall standings There are no Russians in the 2017/18 World Cup. Unfortunately, domestic women's biathlon not the first year is in stagnation. There are young talents. But they fail to grow to a really high level.

The most experienced in the new team are Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht and Daria Virolainen. It is they who will become the locomotive of the national team in biathlon competitions.

The coaching staff has also changed. Vitaly Naritsyn became the main mentor. Although this position was originally supposed to be taken by Valentin Pokholsky. But in the end, plans changed. Vitaly Naritsyn was appointed head coach. Nikolai Zagursky, Pavel Lantsov and Leonid Guryev will help him.

Will ours win?
