The name of Sergei Nikolaevich Lalakin does not appear on TV screens. His name is difficult to find on the pages of newspapers, but everyone who is familiar with the behind-the-scenes Russian boxing, undoubtedly know how much this man has done for the development of this sport in Russia.

On September 6, the grand opening of the new sports club “Vityaz” took place in Balashikha near Moscow. Many eminent guests came to rejoice at the appearance of such a landmark sports facility for the entire Moscow region, in which 1000 children will be able to train at once! It is not surprising that among the guests of honor we met Sergei Nikolaevich Lalakin.

Sergei Nikolaevich is the chairman of the Heritage charitable foundation and the board of trustees of the Podolsk sports club “Vityaz”. The Foundation pays great attention to the development of children's and youth sports, supports the Favorit equestrian sports complex and the Tennis Academy. “Heritage” provides assistance to veterans, families of fallen soldiers, children's educational institutions, boarding schools, orphanages, and medical institutions. Sergei Nikolaevich Lalakin is also a member of the supervisory boards of the Russian Paratroopers Union and the Russian Paralympic Committee.

For his services, he was awarded the medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” II degree, the personalized watch of the President of Russia, the medal “For loyalty to duty and the Fatherland”, honorary badges “For the Revival of Russia” of the highest, I degree and II degree, “For services to the city “I degree, Order of the Presidential Star.” Honorary citizen of the city of Podolsk.

It recently became known that Sergei Nikolaevich was awarded the Order of Friendship for his outstanding contribution to the development of the Paralympic movement. At the opening of the Vityaz sports club and, as always, there were a lot of people near Sergei Nikolaevich, and he unexpectedly invited us to come to his office to chat in a more relaxed atmosphere.

A few days later we stopped by the Professional Boxing Federation of the Moscow Region and, together with the head of the Federation and the president of Podolsk fight league, Pavel Popov, went to a meeting.

In a quiet, cozy office, it immediately becomes clear what the Heritage Charitable Foundation does. The walls are covered with colorful photographs of sports veterans, stadiums and health complexes. In the reception area there are numerous Thanksgiving letters and diplomas from various sports federations Russia and other countries.

Sergei Nikolaevich began the conversation with an emotional story about the impression that the fight on the show made on him mixed martial arts M-1 Challenge 51, where middleweight champion Ramazan Emeev and Vyacheslav Vasilevsky met. Vasilevsky in a dramatic battle TKO defeated Emeev and became the new champion. “I couldn’t sleep today. Vasilevsky fought with Ramazanov. Ramazanov has a belt. They put up such a fight! These are the hematomas that filled each other! I walked for an hour and a half at night. I can’t sleep and that’s it…”

- Sergey Nikolaevich, how are things going now with the development of the Vityaz sports club?

There are now sixteen Vityaz clubs operating in our country. As you yourself have seen, Eduard Khusainov recently opened the head Academy “Vityaz”. In addition, he opened three additional boxing gyms in the Balashikha district. The geography is very wide: Klin, Vladivostok, Kursk, Kaluga, Podolsk, Chekhov, Lvov... There is such a village in our area. But there are as many as 100 people studying there! And there is boxing and wrestling. There's a queue, the sections are packed. They also opened a martial arts hall at the Ryazan Airborne School. Even Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev came there and looked.

It’s better to ask Eduard Rishadovich Khusainov about the Academy in Balashikha. He knows more about her. We helped finance its reconstruction. For our part, we allocated eight million rubles. In total, about 50 million rubles were spent on reconstruction. This is people's money. They gathered for more than one day. Eduard Khusainov and his relatives and acquaintances, businessmen, earned money and allocated money for repairs.

We walked around and looked, everything was done very well. The photographs show what was there originally and what is now. All rooms are neat and tidy.

Edik Khusainov lives by boxing. He has his own house that is not completed, where he and his family and children should live, but gym I'm ready now. He could renovate the house. This suggests that he is an ambitious person and wants champions to be born in Balashikha. Moreover, he has secret “competitions” with Anatoly Mikhailovich Petrov, who also has boxing gyms in Balashikha. Petrov was the first to discover them, and I kept egging Edik on, gave him an idea, and he began to develop it like this.

Now we are planning to open the “Vityaz” gym together with Alexander Povetkin in Vladimir, where boxing has always been at a good level, but is now lagging behind. As soon as Sasha fights in October, we will return to this issue. We will also open a gym in Tula. Our partners came and asked. We'll open it. But it’s easy to open and give money. This is the easiest thing. We need to attract local “bourgeois” who would spend money on sports.

For example, Dmitry Postnov, he was a two-time world champion in kickboxing. He opened such a hall in Klin! Dmitry was the first to take a map of Russia and began to mark with flags where our “Vityazis” were located. The only thing we did was give him a bus. We will give the same to Balashikha athletes. In Kursk we are building a third hall together with the special forces unit “Vityaz”. We are also planning to open a branch in St. Petersburg soon.

Here in Podolsk, Pavel Popov, the president of the Podolsk Fight League, works more in this area than anyone else. He conducts all boxing tournaments at the proper level. Therefore, today we decided to open in Podolsk sport Club boxing “Vityaz”. Pavel Popov will do this. I think that Podolsk is worthy of our famous club.

Now we will open several more clubs, we will hold a master tournament, the Vityaz championship. For example, 15-20 teams will come, there will be a champion of “Vityaz”, immediately a master of sports.

But there are also problems. For example, in the homeland of world boxing champion Yuri Alexandrov, in Kamensk-Uralsk, they decided to open a large complex. To be honest, we invested 20 million rubles there and this money was lost. A hall for a thousand people was being built, but the money disappeared somewhere. All funds were stolen. They are now coming to us from there and throwing up their hands. We tell them: “Do something, for example, sell this building. Maybe it’s better to build somewhere else?” It didn’t work out there with the club. We even asked Mr. Deripaska to help. He has large factories there, but somehow he did not react.

On the eve of the decisive fight of Podolsk boxer Nikolai Potapov for the US champion title, which will take place on March 10 in Detroit, the RIAMO in Podolsk columnist met with the President of the Professional Boxing Federation of the Moscow Region and the Podolsk Fight League (PBL) Pavel Popov. He told why this fight is so important, how an athlete prepares for it and what they are doing in Podolsk to develop the sport.

- What kind of battle is the Podolsk boxer facing?

This is a truly grandiose event, because boxer Nikolai Potapov, a member of the Podolsk Fight League, will represent Podolsk on March 10 in the USA in Detroit at the MGM Grand Detroit casino in a fight for the title of American champion. His fight with Antonio Nieves will be the main event of the evening. Nikolai is 27 years old, he has had 16 fights, Antonio is 29 years old, and has 17 fights to his name. They will fight for the WBO NABO bantamweight title at 53.5kg. Now this title belongs to Nieves, he is ranked fourth in the WBO ranking, and Potapov is eighth. This tournament is very important for us, since after it Nikolai will be able to qualify for a fight for the world title in one of the main versions. We have been moving towards this goal for five years, since the creation of PBL. The WBO World Bantamweight Champion is 24-year-old Marlon Tapales from the Philippines, who will fight contenders for his title. Fans will be able to watch the Potapov-Nives fight on the federal channel “Match TV”, the broadcast will begin at about six o’clock in the morning.

- Why in America?

Because today this is where the Mecca of boxing is located. A boxer must be recognizable not only in Russia, but throughout the world. If a boxer is known in the USA, then he is known everywhere. In addition, the athlete’s advancement there is faster than in Russia, since many more serious-level events take place in America. We can say that this is to some extent a political battle between Russia and the USA, since we are still fighting for the American champion belt. This will be a real boxing show from the promotion company Salita Promotions.

We are moving towards our goal together with our partners from Salita Promotions, organized by people from post-Soviet republics. It was they who, having assessed Potapov’s potential, proposed a scheme for his effective promotion on the world boxing stage. In Russia, it has recently become difficult to hold global large-scale events, and we agreed. Although before that we independently held several events, the level of which became higher each time. The fights were broadcast on the “Fight Club” and “Fighter TV” channels.

When we achieve the goal and title of world champion, we will be able to hold the same events in Russia. This is very important, because in our country there are practically no belts left, our athletes various reasons they were lost, including due to inadequate refereeing. Currently, Denis Lebedev, Murat Gassiev and Umar Salamov have one belt each. If we win the belt, we will try to make sure that the next fight takes place in Russia, and not in England, although there is one champion there now, one in Thailand, one in the USA.

- How is Nikolai’s preparation going?

This will be our third fight in the USA. Based on the experience of past years, we decided to prepare on the spot, so on February 1, Potapov flew to America. He will have time to readjust, acclimatize and completely immerse himself in training process. Potapov is in a specialized sports camp, where excellent living conditions have been created for him, food and doctors have been selected for him. What is important is that they found excellent sparring partners for our boxer, and they constantly send me videos of training fights. Nikolay improved his work on his feet - he became faster and more maneuverable, plus the new American coach emphasized work on power blows, and this is a series of blows. His punch became much harder. This is important because in the fight for the American champion belt we need to win 100% - if the fight is equal or with a slight advantage, the judges will not give us the victory.

- Do you expect to win by knockout?

When we had our first fight in the USA, we set Nikolai up to win by knockout. But now they understand that a boxer should just do his job. Don't aim for a knockout. There is only one goal - to win. If a boxer is only focused on a knockout, this will not lead to anything good. It should be beautiful boxing and a confident victory. The opponent is not easy, Nikolai and I watched videos of his fights, he is in no way inferior to our athlete. Plus he's American, so we need to be a lot better and stronger.

- Have measures been taken to defend against doping charges?

In the promotion company Salita Promotions this issue is clearly controlled. The company has specialists on staff who are responsible for this. When an athlete goes to new level battles for the belt, this issue becomes one of the most important and requires special control. For example, tests are carried out in parallel in several independent laboratories, so that later there is something to compare with. Authorized employees are present when samples are taken and examined. In addition, I know for sure that Nikolai does not accept anything forbidden. Our partners keep everything under control, our boxer even eats food in a certain place, especially in the days before the match. Water at competitions is supplied specially packaged; it is purchased in one place so that nothing can be added to the boxers before the fight.

- How large a delegation will go to support Potapov?

About ten people, including our friends and athletes. A large delegation is not needed for support; when the third fight took place in New York, approximately 40% of the spectators were Russian speakers, because there is a very large Russian diaspora living there. There are also many Russian speakers in Detroit. They are waiting for this fight and will support our athlete. Nikolay and I are returning together - first we will have a flight from Detroit to New York, then to Moscow on March 12. The whole of Podolsk will be rooting for him here, as will his entire extended family.

- What else does PBL do?

PBL deals not only professional boxers, we also hold children's boxing tournaments. The next one is planned for May. These are one-day tournaments, which are attended by about 60-70 children from Moscow and neighboring regions. We pay for the judges and fees. We try to stimulate children and give them meaningful gifts. That year we presented about 20 pairs of gloves to children from the Cosmos sports school. This week we purchased another 25 pairs of gloves with our logo for the guys who distinguished themselves in boxing. Alexander Povetkin and Denis Lebedev will come to the presentation and sign gloves for the children. We strive to encourage children and stimulate them to reach the same heights as our legends - Lebedev and Povetkin.

The most important thing is that sports are free and children can take part in competitions. We cooperate with the federation Greco-Roman wrestling and Sergei Ivlev, with the Vityaz Sports Center and Dmitry Volodin. Sections operate in “Sport Service” and “Cosmos”. We have very good school amateur boxing, which was created by coaches, for example, Georgy Zakernichny. Promotion of boxers in professional boxing requires large investments. The groups are now full. There is a great need to build new sports facilities in Podolsk.

We help develop a sports lifestyle in general. Recently, together with the Minister of Sports of the Moscow Region, Roman Teryushkov, and the Stroyinvest-3 company, we opened three children’s multifunctional playgrounds in the Chekhov district. You can play basketball, volleyball, and football on them. For the second year we are developing a project to build a children's sports camp in Crimea in the village of Olenevka. We have secured the support of the head of the Republic of Crimea. We were allocated a plot of land on the seashore. One of my partners specially moved to Simferopol. We hope that we will sign everything Required documents In the near future we will begin the construction of a sports camp with a specialization in boxing. We presented this project to the director sports school Olympic reserve boxing director of the Moscow region Sergei Vvedensky, and he approved it. Because there are very few children's camps for young boxers. Priority will be for children near Moscow. It is planned to employ about 100 people per shift.

- How will your project for the national “Boxing Star” award develop?

At the end of 2016, on January 31, the IV National Boxing Star Award was successfully held in Moscow, at which we presented awards for achievements in amateur and professional boxing. The event was broadcast by six television channels. We are going to hold the next, fifth award in Crocus City on a site designed for two thousand people, since the Golden Palace entertainment complex can no longer accommodate everyone. As part of the award, we brought together professional boxers and veterans and amateur Olympic athletes. In the future we will continue this tradition and encourage the winners of the World and European Championships. The anniversary award will take place at the end of January - beginning of February 2018.
