Braid for spinning, choice of braided line. Which braid to choose for pike spinning The best premium braided lines

The diameter of the braid indicated by the manufacturer on the spool is a very approximate value that may not correspond to the real one at all. After all, the same fishing line, even from premium brands, has an uneven thickness. The diameter of the braided cord is not a constant value along the entire length of the fishing line, but the value indicated on the spool is the average value of the diameter of the fishing line.

The problem also lies in the fact that it is almost impossible to accurately measure the diameter of the braid, and each of the cord manufacturers uses its own method of calculating it, based on the ratio of the mass of the material and other parameters of the multifilament fishing line.

Braid diameter

What does the question “what braid diameter to choose” mean if it is not specified for what?

It means absolutely nothing without specifying the parameters of the tackle and the method of fishing. Moreover, if we talk about spinning braid, for example, then here the diameter of the braid can also fluctuate over a wide range. Ultralight for spinning is thin delicate cords, for jig spinning it is much stronger, depending on the weight range of the lures used. What braid diameter to choose in each case? Let's look into this in more detail, but first, a few facts about the braid.

Braid Facts

Braid under the microscope

What you need to know about braided line:

  • the braid has almost no stretch (zero stretch), which is very good for controlling the bait and registering a bite, and not very good for playing the fish;
  • braided cord is much stronger than any monofilament line (monofilament);
  • depending on the type of weaving, a multifilament thread is round and flat in cross section (a round braid sails less and sinks faster);
  • braided fishing line, especially without impregnation, absorbs water, so it cannot be used in winter (with the exception of special cords and impregnated from freezing);
  • braided line very quickly cuts through low-quality rod winding rings;
  • not all knots for ordinary fishing line are suitable for braided line (it has great slip);
  • Braided line is more expensive than regular line, but it's worth it.

spinning braid diameter

What braid diameter to choose for spinning? You can endlessly rant on this topic, saying that everything is not so simple here and other “blah blah blah”, but we will try to be more specific.

The diameter of the spinning braid depends on the following parameters:

  • test your spinning and reel class;
  • the weight of the baits used.
  • the size of the intended fish you are going to catch;

When it comes to choosing braided fishing line for spinning, it should be borne in mind that it is two or more times stronger than usual. Therefore, if you used monofilament with a diameter of 0.3 mm, you should choose a braid with a thickness of no more than 0.15 mm. You will be surprised how far your bait flies.

Braid for pike spinning

“What kind of braid for pike,” is exactly what they often ask in stores.

Braid for pike? Are you seriously? Well, let's once again draw an analogy with an ordinary fishing line. If earlier you caught pike up to 3-5 kg and monofilament with a diameter of 0.3 mm was enough for you, then a braid with a thickness of 0.08 - 0.1 mm can hold such a weight. Braid with a diameter of only 0.1 mm will definitely go for pike up to 5 kilograms.

A thicker braid will be able to withstand more, but the casting distance decreases with thickness and is very difficult to break when hooked. You should not get carried away with excessive thinning either, since the thinner the braid, the faster it wears out and serves less. Here you need to find a compromise.

For pike fishing up to 5 kg, a braided line with a diameter in a wide range is suitable - from 0.06 mm and thicker. For light baits and ultralight spinning we use up to 0.08 mm, for a medium weight jig a braid up to 0.14 mm is suitable, for heavy jig spinning you should choose from 0.14 to 0.18 mm. So we figured out what kind of braid for pike is needed.

Conclusion: the diameter of a suitable braid for spinning is more tied not to the type and size of the fish, but to the power of the rod and the weight of the baits used. It doesn't matter what you will be catching - perch, pike, zander or other fish, it is important that the braided line matches the power of the tackle as a whole (spinning + reel + bait).

Braided fishing lines from different manufacturers can vary significantly in breaking load for the same diameter, so this must also be taken into account.

Braided fishing lines for spinning - video

If you know very little or nothing about braided fishing lines and want to learn more, we recommend watching the film by the Shcherbakov brothers dedicated to the choice of braided fishing line for spinning and about braiding in general:

Feeder braid diameter

All that we have said about braided line for spinning is generally true in the choice of braided fishing line for feeder gear. Only instead of the power of spinning rods, the power of the feeder gear and the weight of the feeders used should be taken into account. Many parameters of a braided fishing line that are important in spinning are not taken into account for a feeder.

The main thing is that the fishing line can withstand the critical load that occurs when casting the feeder.

To cast a feeder weighing 100 grams over 50-60 meters, the peak load for the cord is no more than 5 kg, and for a 150 gram load - no more than 7 kg. These are approximate figures that can be used as a guideline when choosing a cord according to the test breaking load.

  1. For fishing without a current with feeders up to 30 grams, a line with a diameter of 0.05 mm with a shock leader is suitable.
  2. For fishing in the current with feeders up to 150 grams - braid with a diameter of 0.17 mm.

How to measure braid diameter

It is very difficult to measure the diameter of the braid

Measuring the diameter of a braided fishing line is not as simple a task as it might seem at first glance, but almost solvable.

Why can't you accurately measure the diameter of braided line? The thing is that, unlike monofilament, a braided cord consists of many ultra-thin threads connected by a special weave with or without impregnation. Even with a slight compression of the cord with a measuring tool (micrometer), we get incorrect measurements at the output. In addition, the braided line may initially have not a round but a flat section.

It would seem: if we know the number of threads in the braid, what could be easier than taking and “adding up” the diameters of all the threads and getting the total diameter of the braided cord? Theoretically, knowing the cross-sectional area of each thread in the cord, it is possible to determine the total diameter of the cord, but the problem is that the diameter of each thread differs significantly from each other and is different along the entire length. And moreover: who said that the number of micro-threads is generally known and that it is a constant value? So this measurement method is also very inaccurate.

So how, nevertheless, to measure the diameter of a braided fishing line?

We can use a little trick: if you tie a regular single knot and tighten, its density will allow us to use a micrometer and find out the size of the knot. If you tie several knots on one fishing line, their size will differ from each other within the margin of error. Thus, we can take the thickness of the knot as the conditional size of the thickness of the braided fishing line.

If we divide the thickness of the knot by two, we get the diameter of the braided thread close to the real one.

It should be understood that this method does not give us an absolutely correct result, but allows us to compare the thickness of different braided lines with sufficient accuracy. Having a "standard" braided thread on hand, let's say 0.15 mm in diameter, and knowing the exact size simple knot on it, we get the opportunity to compare.

The Shcherbakov brothers even filmed a video about this.

Braided lines are a stronger alternative to monofilament line, primarily intended for spinning fishing during the warm season. An increase in the perceived breaking force was achieved by interlacing several filamentous fibers into one cord. Moreover, the more threads are intertwined with each other, the more durable and balanced the resulting braid is.

Unlike monofilaments, braided cords do not tend to stretch over time and do not have a "memory" effect. However, when ice fishing, they do not show themselves the most in the best way: due to the fact that the fibers absorb water, at low temperatures numerous microstructural failures occur and, as a result, the cord breaks at a minimum load.

The modern fishing equipment market is literally replete with a huge number of braided cords. Among them, there are both high-quality and frankly bad samples, fishing with which will become a complete torment. In order to make it easier for you to choose, we have compiled a ranking of the fifteen best braids in three main categories. The final list was formed taking into account the following criteria:

  • the degree of balance of characteristics and the presence of unique features;
  • feedback from amateur and professional users;
  • compliance of the cost of products with nominal quality.

Best Inexpensive Braided Cords

Every year, more and more high-quality models appear in the range of budget braids. This is explained by the improvement of technologies, the introduction of innovative materials and coatings. Inexpensive braided cords are bought not only by beginner spinningists, but also by professional anglers.

4 YO-Zuri PE SUPERBRAID (135 m)

High breaking strength
Country: Japan/USA
Average price: 1,083 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.7

Line designed for deep water fishing. The fruit of the Japanese and American partnership, the quality of which is practically not inferior to premium samples. Perhaps the only complaint can be made for a short service life (due to excessive moisture permeability, which thoroughly destroys the fibers). It is supplied to the domestic market in two colors - dark green for fishing in muddy waters and blue for fishing in clean waters.

Among the advantages of this braid are good abrasion resistance, low tendency to stretch and good fixation of knots. It can withstand up to 13 kilograms of live weight and is ideal for a feeder.

Advantages:

  • several color options;
  • 0.28 mm thickness in section;
  • withstands up to 13 kilograms of load;
  • holds the knot securely.

Flaws:

  • mediocre durability parameter (on average for 1.5-2 seasons).

3 Spiderwire EZ Braid (137 m)

The most affordable brand line
Country: USA
Average price: 685 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.8

Many experienced anglers trust only branded braids. Among them, the most affordable product is the American Spiderwire EZ Braid line. The manufacturer managed to create an affordable cord thanks to a three-component structure, which is obtained by combining Teflon and polyethylene under high pressure. Domestic athletes flattered about such qualities of the fishing line as strength, integrity and easy sliding along the access rings. The thread is well calibrated in thickness, and due to successful unwinding, it is possible to fill the bobbin to the very brim without the use of backing.

Experienced anglers praised the line for the durability of the paintwork. It does not remain on the rings during the first fishing, which is typical for cheap lines. Unfortunately, the brand is well known in Russia, which is why there are many counterfeit products on the market. Spinningists call windage as a disadvantage of braided line, which is why the flight qualities of baits suffer.

2 Salmo Diamond BRAID Green (100 m)

Best price
Country: Poland/Latvia
Average price: 440 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.8

One of the most affordable and at the same time reliable braids on the Russian market. It consists of four strands, due to which an almost ideal round section is achieved, which has high strength parameters. Such a line is able to withstand up to eight kilograms of breaking load and is designed for fishing in medium water (mainly large specimens). Almost everything is ideal here: wear resistance, tensile strength (also causes high sensitivity), and even the absence of “memory”. But in the coloring there is some scarcity - the braid is supplied only in a successful green color.

Advantages:

  • low cost;
  • section 0.17 millimeters, in which the cord can withstand up to eight kilograms of load;
  • four-strand weaving.

Flaws:

  • the scarcity of the color of the threads.

An urgent question of recent times: what is still better - a braided cord or an ordinary monofilament? What are their main advantages and characteristic disadvantages - we learn from the comparison table.

Chinese braided line 135 meters long, designed for catching trophy fish. Well suited for almost any type of fishing - both jigging and twitching. It does not bypass and catch on the feeder, where it shows good productivity results. The main advantage of Olvega is its high sensitivity, which often saves gear from a cliff from a seemingly hopeless snag and grass hook. Contributes to the good and the number of threads woven together. Four strands give the line a good rounded shape, thanks to which the braid fits snugly on the spool and allows you to make a smooth and long cast. ALLVEGA Ultimate is a good contender for permanent use with moderate price and quality parameters.

Advantages:

  • near-zero stretch, which increases the sensitivity of the braided line;
  • low cost coupled with high quality;
  • a large number of options for section thicknesses.

Flaws:

  • not detected.

The best braided cords in the middle price segment

The middle price segment is represented not only by novice manufacturers, but also by well-known brands in the world. Most often, experienced spinningists and feeder fans choose braided line in this price range (1000-1500 rubles per 100 m). The average service life of such cords is 2-3 seasons.

5 Momoi Fishing JigLine Ultra PE (150m)

Wide range of thicknesses and colors
Country: Japan
Average price: 1,429 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.6

Japanese manufacturer fishing lines Momoi Fishing made a bet when conquering the Russian market on a variety of braids. In the JigLine Ultra PE series, anglers can choose the most suitable line in terms of diameter (11 options) and color (yellow, red, khaki). There are also several options for unwinding, starting from 25 m and ending with 150 m. The fishing line is strong enough, for example, the thinnest 0.05 mm braid can withstand a load of up to 4 kg. Great option for ultralight spinning. To achieve wear resistance and durability of the cord, the manufacturer used a three-layer coating technology. It protects the fibers not only from mechanical stress, but also from destructive ultraviolet radiation.

Experienced anglers note the reliability of the braid on the nodal connections. The material is afraid only of low temperatures (below -5 ° C), the line becomes brittle and brittle.

4 YGK New G-Soul X4 Upgrade (100m)

Perfectly accurate dimensions
Country: Japan
Average price: 1,400 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.7

Braided fishing line YGK New G-Soul X4 Upgrade has been tested by many domestic spinningists. First of all, many professionals were surprised by the adjusted thickness of the four-wire fishing line. Even to the touch when winding on a spool, it seems thinner than products of other manufacturers similar in diameter. When casting with a braided line, there are no difficulties, it does not sail, it does not slow down when leaving. Even after many months of fishing, athletes note the absence of hairiness, which indicates the durability and strength of the material.

Anglers consider the Japanese line YGK New G-Soul X4 Upgrade to be the best four-core budget line. It has excellent knot strength. The only drawback for many spinners is the stiffness of the thread. A fairly narrow range of colors from the manufacturer of cords. The most versatile is considered a neutral color with orange inclusions.

3 VARIVAS Avani Jigging 10x10 Premium PE (200m)

Ease of sliding, multicolor
Country: Japan
Average price: 2,300 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.7

Braided fishing line VARIVAS Avani Jigging 10x10 Premium PE stands out from the competition with its original coloring. This allows anglers to control the distance and accuracy of the cast, which is especially appreciated by feeder lovers. A fishing line is also suitable for equipping spinning, since the four-core section is close to a round shape. Therefore, the line easily slides over the inserts of the guides, without creating noise when casting. In the domestic market, the manufacturer sells five diameter options, starting from 0.128 and ending with 0.235 mm. As for strength, here the fishing line is inferior to branded models, but the angler will cope with most freshwater inhabitants without problems.

Users draw attention to the original colors, which change along the entire length. This allows you to control the casting distance and the direction of movement when posting the bait. The weak side can be called low knot strength.

2 Duel PE Hardcore X4 (150m)

Multifunctional braid
Country: Japan
Average price: 1335 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.8

Braid that came to Russia straight from the Japanese market. The Japanese know their business like no one else, and the quality of their products is another proof of this. A soft four-wire cord with no “memory” effect ensures the longest possible casts when equipped with heavy gear. It is in this capacity that braided fishing line shows itself best - fishing for bottom areas (pits, faults and mounds) on spinning, where a predator often stands, is the most productive way of fishing. However, do not forget about fishing on the feeder.

Among the shortcomings of Duel PE Hardcore X4, one can single out only a rather high retail price, which, nevertheless, adequately reflects the overall quality of the product.

Advantages:

  • braid, suitable for both spinning fishing and feeder fishing;
  • withstands up to eight kilograms of load;
  • high resistance to wear and abrasion.

Flaws:

  • increased cost offset by good quality.

5 Sunline SM PE EGI ULT HS8 HG (120 m)

The most versatile cord
Country: Japan
Average price: 3,530 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.6

Any spinning fishing technique can be used thanks to the Sunline SM PE EGI ULT HS8 HG braided line. The Japanese quality does not cause any doubts among experts, the fishing line deserves the most flattering words. The manufacturer offers a narrow range of diameters, starting from 0.09 and ending with 0.165 mm. Fans of ultralight note high flight characteristics, which is important when casting light lures. A special coating ensures easy sliding of the braided line, it also protects the fiber from mechanical damage. Jig lovers praise the cord for its high sensitivity, which is achieved due to minimal stretch. The line is also great for twitching.

Domestic anglers are satisfied with the versatility of the braided line, with it you can quickly switch to other fishing methods. The disadvantage of the fishing line is the high price, as well as a poor choice of thicknesses.

4 Berkley Fireline Tracer Braids (110 m)

The strongest fiber
Country: USA
Average price: 1,810 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.6

One of the first manufacturers of braided fishing line in the world was the American company Berkley. Braid under the Fireline brand has long shared the palm with Power Pro. Today, in the face of fierce competition, the manufacturer relies on the high strength of its product. The Fireline Tracer Braid series is made from the strongest Microdynema fiber available. Not surprisingly, the thinnest 0.14 mm cord can withstand a load of 14.6 kg. Experts highlight the resistance of the material to the negative factors that occur in fishing.

Anglers have noticed that Berkley braids have become more affordable in recent years. At the same time, the domestic market has big number fakes. The disadvantages of the fishing line can also include not the best sensitivity, which is important when twitching or jigging. And the consequence of high rigidity is the loss of strength at the nodal joints.

3 Duel PE SUPER X-WIRE 8 (150 m)

High reliability parameters
Country: Japan
Average price: 1952 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.6

Eight-core cord Japanese made with a section diameter of 0.23 mm. It was developed specifically for Russian fishing conditions, in connection with which it has become widespread in the market. Purely operational, SUPER X-WIRE 8 is nothing unique - the same proven Dyneema polymer is used as fibers, woven at a high density per inch. Of the pleasant additions, one can single out a good wax impregnation that prevents the absorption of water by the strands.

In general, this is a good braided line, the strength of which is more than enough for fishing. big fish, however, its cost often scares off potential buyers.

Advantages:

  • high performance (no frills, but reliable);
  • the presence of high-quality impregnation based on wax.

Flaws:

  • unreasonably high cost.

2 Power Pro Moss Green (275 m)

Best Cord Quality
Country: USA
Average price: 3390 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.9

Braid that came to the Russian markets straight from the USA. It is strikingly different from all others in the rating by the type of strands. Instead of the common Dyneema polymer, the Americans used their own development called Spectra Fiber. It is not known for certain how good this technology is, but the fact is that the cord is very strong in knots, perhaps the best among all in this component. With a cross-sectional diameter of 0.43 mm, it can withstand about 40 kilograms of load and is suitable for fishing in marine areas.

One feature that many see as an advantage and others as a disadvantage is the Power Pro Moss Green's unwind size. In this particular case, it is 275 meters - a good option for saving the cord, as they say, in reserve. The total cost for a premium sample is low, and it is this fact that captivates the bulk of users.

Advantages:

  • one of the best in terms of strength component in knots;
  • the presence of cords in the unwinding of 135 and 275 meters;
  • abundance of diameters of sections;
  • the presence of impregnation that protects the cord for the entire period of operation.

Flaws:

  • not detected.

1 Sufix 832 Braid (135 m)

Best price
Country: Taiwan
Average price: 1390 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.9

A premium braid developed by the best minds of Sufix and W.L. Gore. It is authentically known that the “writing” of a new formula for fibers was carried out for six whole years, and, it is worth noting, this has borne fruit. Despite the cost, which is a transitional link between the middle and premium segments, the quality of the braid makes it possible to classify it with all confidence as the latter.

Strangely, the whole innovation of Braid is to replace just one strand of Dyneema with Gore-Tech fiber. Thus, the cord is formed by eight cores, which give it not only a more regular rounded cross-sectional shape, but also allow it to withstand a whopping 39 kilograms of load.

Advantages:

  • better sensitivity coupled with "zero" stretch;
  • high load capacity;
  • strong knots that practically do not weaken the cord;
  • low vibration and noise during wiring.

Flaws:

  • not detected.

How to choose a good braided line

Independent choice of a braided cord is not an easy and very specific matter. In order not to make an unfortunate mistake, we recommend paying attention to the following aspects:

  • Place of fishing. The fundamental criterion on which both the parameters of the cord and the choice of related equipment depend. When fishing with spinning, one should take into account the fact that the fish loves to live near snags or dense thickets of grass, where the probability of hooking is very high. The nominal value of the strength of the braid is 15-20 libres.
  • Cord strength. A parameter measured in libra. Converted to kilograms (without specification) by dividing in half. Shows the maximum perceived load that the braid can withstand. It is often overestimated by manufacturers, so in case of preparing for serious fishing, it makes sense to select a more enduring thread.
  • The number of woven threads. An indicator that can be established immediately (it is rarely marked explicitly) can be quite difficult. One thing to remember: the more fibers (from two to sixteen or more braided threads), the more durable the braided cord is.
  • Cord section. Relative parameter in which leading role plays the number of fibers that form the cord. Again: the more threads in the plexus, the more rounded the cord turns out. This increases not only the strength characteristics, but also affects the casting distance and wear resistance of the braid.
  • Color. Parameter of a purely individual plan. The main thing is that operations with it during the use of spinning do not cause great difficulties. We recommend choosing braided lines in a characteristic visible color in order to better control the wiring and bite (cutting). Very interesting models are fluorescent cords that glow in the dark.

When choosing a braided line for spinning, anglers most often pay attention to indicators such as strength and thickness. However, do not blindly trust the parameters indicated by the manufacturer.

  • Index strength many experienced anglers test at home. It is enough to arm yourself with a set of cargoes to compare the declared figures with the real ones. Novice anglers should be aware that manufacturers usually exaggerate the capabilities of their braid by 25-30%. Therefore, when buying a cord with a tensile strength of 12 kg, you can be sure that it will withstand a load of 8 kg.
  • Braid diameter can be called an abstract indicator that is measured by the shell. Often, beginner spinningists compare braids by analogy with monofilament fishing lines. However, this approach is fundamentally wrong. Because of this, a number of manufacturers do not indicate the thickness of the cord at all, and strength plays the role of the main characteristic. It can be expressed in kilograms or pounds (libra) that are familiar to us. 1 Lb corresponds to 453.6 g.

A few words should be said about the structure of braided lines. All cord manufacturers use polyethylene fibers from three factories under the brands:

  • Dyneema is produced in Holland and Japan;
  • Spectra is made in the USA.

Thus, the fibers at the base of braided cords are almost the same, but they are intertwined along different technologies, with different coatings, which is why the products differ in price and quality.

When buying a cord, you should pay attention to several nuances.

  • It is better to take a fishing line in a trusted store where a fake is not sold.
  • You should immediately visually inspect the reel with fishing line. The presence of scuffs and irregularities in the weave is a sign of a low-grade cord.
  • Preference should be given to round braids.
  • You can feel how slippery the thread is to the touch.

Good luck fishing!

I am already familiar with Bobbing products. (I have several braids of different diameters) And I even did a review on Therefore, when I saw a discount on this braid at a sale, 300 meters long for a little over 9 dollars, I bought it without hesitation.
It was still summer. The wicker parcel came pretty quickly, but it just hung in my fishing box idle.
But with the advent of winter, I found a use for it. And I liked this application. But first things first.
The braid came in a rather shabby box. Don't know. Either the store has already sent this one, or it has suffered on the way:

Braided spool inside:

More precisely, three coils connected together, with a wound braid of 100 meters each:

A feature of this braid is its color. Changing every meter. As a result, at 300 meters we have a beautiful rainbow:

This coloring is made for a reason. It is needed to control the length of the braid. Convenient for trolling fishing and casting spinning.
The weave itself is quite thin. I have nothing to measure its thickness, so I can’t say for sure whether there is 0.12mm or not:

I liked the quality. The braid is not shaggy, visually it has the same thickness along the entire length.
Really very tear resistant. I couldn't tear it apart with just my hands. She begins to cut her fingers, but does not want to tear. This gives hope that there will be no problems with not very large specimens of perch and pike (which prevail in our area). They won't gnaw or bite.
This time I decided to use the braid in the vents. Many fishermen are very fond of the first winter ice. And I am no exception. At this time, you can catch quite a lot of pike, which is still actively feeding.
Therefore, for testing, I bought two offline girders:

And he equipped them with a monitored wickerwork:

Since the braid is very strong, you have to cut it with this tool:

I did not wind all 300 meters. Limited to only 1 coil out of three. This is approximately 50 meters for each vent:

Although in fact I did not wind exactly, and most likely it turned out to be about 30 and 70 meters on two coils.

I went fishing last weekend. And as you know, most often fishermen bite either yesterday or tomorrow. But today it does not bite. So my trip was also not very successful for the catch. I caught a few eyelets on the balancer:

And a very small pike, about 600 grams, which pecked precisely at the zherlitsa with monofilament:

(at the same time, I had 8 zherlits installed) But in defense of my fishing sentiment is the fact that it was a single pike among a dozen fishermen who were fishing nearby.
Based on one fishing trip, I can already draw one conclusion in favor of braided line: it is much better seen on white ice, unlike fishing line. This simplifies its search and the process of winding. Definitely now I will put braid on the vents. Luckily I have it in stock.
But the remaining 200 meters of this particular braid will probably be used not on the vent, but on the recently arrived new PisciFun Torrent multiplier reel.
That's all. I finish the review. There won't be any conclusions. The braid is good, the price is comparable to offline offers, but at least I have already come across the Bobbing company, and it suits me. I probably won't recommend. Not because it's bad, but because there are a lot of fishermen here (judging by the comments to previous reviews) and everyone has their own preferences. I just talked about mine. Braided fishing lines (or, as they are also called, cords) are significantly superior to monofilament counterparts in many respects. However, their price is much higher. In modern fishing markets you can find a wide variety of braided lines. What is the best braid for spinning?

Many anglers believe that good result in fishing, a braided fishing line with a minimum diameter will help to achieve. And it does not depend on the type of fishing. Those who prefer to use thin tackle make the following arguments: using a thin model allows you to minimize the effects of current and wind, and also provides high sensitivity and casting to the most remote areas.

It works, but if the fishing takes place where the probability of hooking is completely excluded. You can fish, but there is a high probability of losing the bait, catch and the braid itself. To be safe from this, it is necessary to choose a braided fishing line, taking into account its breaking load in relation to any type of fishing.

Braided fishing line for spinning: important parameters

This is one of the main characteristics to consider when buying. The angler should choose the power in accordance with the type, object and conditions of future fishing. The class of the selected gear and the features of the lures are taken into account. It is advisable to select a wicker model for spinning, looking not at the diameter in millimeters, but at the degree of its breaking load, which is indicated on the package.

Recently, on many Japanese-made options, the diameter is not indicated at all, but only Japanese sizes are present. The value of the most popular of them is from 0.2 to 1.5. On Japanese models belonging to the latest generation, there is a relatively accurate diameter value. And in other woods of the same kind, their real diameter is often indicated with an increase of several tenths or hundredths of a millimeter. If you set a goal, then it is quite possible to find two models that have the same diameter value and a breaking load that will be significantly different.

In addition, it should certainly be taken into account that the value of the breaking load on the node will necessarily be less than the value that is written on the package. The values of the declared and actual given load very often do not coincide with each other. Differences in diameter are more significant than these differences. For this reason, when purchasing such a fishing line, you should start from the breaking load in pounds (lb). 1 pound is 2.2 kg.

"Braids" with a load of 4-6 lb (1.8-2.7 kg) are suitable for catching small fish from the shore (weighing up to 300-400 g). Fishing lines belonging to this class are perfectly combined with light and ultra-light tackle. They can be used for catching, as well as other predatory fish of small sizes, on micro jig baits, small wobblers and small spinners. The 4-6 lb options are suitable for bass fishing from a boat only. Having a load of 8.1 Olb (3.5-4.5 kg), they are used for fishing from the shore of asp, chub, small pike, ide in small reservoirs. Such braids are useful for catching small pike, perch and pike perch on a light coastal jig. They are also used when fishing for a castmaster for fish such as perch and asp.

Braided spinning line with a strength of 12-15 lb (5.4-6.8 kg) is used in the process of fishing from a boat for pike, pike perch and large perch on jig lures belonging to the heavy and medium range, and on wobblers, reaching a length of not more than 110 mm.

Braids with a strength value of 18-20 lb (8-9 kg) are used for fishing in conditions of increased complexity (for example, if there is a large amount of algae, snags or stones on the bottom in the selected area) from a boat to perch, pike perch or pike using jig baits belonging to the heavy and medium range, as well as in the process of catching large wobblers reaching a length of more than 100 mm.

Spinning braid for pike with a test weight over 20 lb (more than 9 kg) is used when fishing with jerkbaits and when fishing by trolling.

unwinding

This is a relatively easy setting. The most popular value is 150 m. The minimum allowable unwinding value for spinning fish is 100 m (it is used in cases where the braid is rarely used and its losses during the season are minimal). There are also options for 125 m, 135 m, 200 m, 250 m used for spinning fishing.

Cord type

There are three main groups of braided lines, differing in the type of fiber connection:

  • braided - the most common, mostly soft and relatively stretchable cords, characterized by a good ratio of quality and cost indicators;
  • soldered through the use of heat treatment - rigid and inextensible fishing lines with a more rounded cross-sectional shape;
  • sheath-type braids - have an almost round cross-sectional shape (in such cords, the fibers are in a sheath made of high-strength material).

Weaving density

This parameter affects many characteristics of the braid: its true diameter, wear resistance and calibration along the entire length. Even the cheapest braided line will have strength several times higher than any monofilament. The denser the fibers of the cord are intertwined, the higher its characteristics will be. It is easy to notice the loose weaving of the cord when choosing: the fibers of such a braided fishing line delaminate if you try to squeeze it or twist it. These braids are characterized by a predominantly flat section and are very saily under the influence of wind and water. In addition, loose braided line is highly susceptible to damage.

Paint durability

This parameter is not paramount, but also deserves attention. In some cases, when winding the line on the spool, anglers observe noticeable paint residue on their hands after the winding is completed. This indicates the unsatisfactory quality of the braid. In addition, a fishing line of this quality can generally discolor after several uses (this applies mainly to the first 10 meters, which are subjected to the greatest load when playing the fish).

wear resistance

This parameter indicates the degree of preservation of the existing characteristics of the braided fishing line during its use. Each such cord begins to wear out over time, loses its strength and piles. The most durable are the classic type cords, made of high-quality material, having a smooth and slippery surface and woven in the most dense way. Loose classic and hard soldered cords wear out much faster with regular use and rarely last more than one season.

Braided fishing line for spinning: an overview of popular

Sensitive braided fishing line of increased strength. It is well suited for medium-weight spinning. Unwinding, which is 150 m, will allow you to use it for a long period. Woven quite tightly. It has a round sectional shape and a slippery surface. You can use this option when catching fish such as pike perch and pike, using jig baits weighing 10-50 g, as well as for twitching on large wobblers. The stretch of this cord is minimal. Breaking strength, although it may be less than 6.8 kg declared, but for the majority of cases it is well suited. The diameter of this braid allows it to actively work with baits weighing from 10 g. The material from which the cord is made does not absorb water, that is, it fully retains its qualities when working underwater. Available in white and acid green.

Elastic highly sensitive braided fishing line, characterized by a high density of weaving and a round diameter. It is characterized by ease of unwinding, high wear resistance and excellent strength.

This braid usually does not list the breaking strength in pounds, but rather a diameter of 0.15 mm and a breaking strength of 9 kg. This figure does not correspond to the indicated 10 lb at all, the true breaking strength of this model is approximately 15-16 lb. The actual value of the diameter of this cord is not less than 0.23 mm. An excellent choice for medium-weight spinning. Can cope well with shells and an abundance of snags. Suitable for jig fishing in conditions of excessively cluttered bottom and an abundance of underwater vegetation. The unwinding is 135 m. In most cases, such a model can withstand a couple of seasons.

Great for serious fishing predatory fish. This model is quite durable, has high wear resistance, but less dense weaving than the previous ones. Almost does not shaggy with active use. The actual diameter of such a braid is 0.25 mm, which differs from the declared 0.12 mm. Unwinding is 100 m. It is used for feeder fishing, as well as for trolling and jig fishing in “strong” places. Provides the ability to unbend in the case of "dead" hooks, which in turn saves the bait. Effectively "rescues" wobblers from the hooks, which are characterized by high cost.

P-line Spectrex 0.23 mm, 15 lb

Significantly differs from the options discussed above by an increased level of sensitivity. It also features easy unwinding (136 m), high strength and reasonable price. Its wear resistance is not very high, but this disadvantage is inherent in all cords made by heat treatment. When used, the working part of this braid begins to shaggy over time. This does not affect the strength, but it makes it a little difficult to use it when fishing with baits that have a relatively small weight. If you use baits weighing more than 10 g, fishing will take place without such inconvenience. The available tensile strength of this model is consistent with the declared, and the diameter is slightly less than indicated. Well suited for fishing on a relatively clean bottom, on lures weighing more than 10g.

This braided line for spinning was able to adequately show itself in the process of twitching fishing for deep wobblers. The unwinding of such a cord is 150 m. It fully complies with the indicated characteristics, does not shag when used, and has a good reach. This braided fishing line is distinguished by the following: for its manufacture, a hybrid eight-strand material is used, consisting of 4 polyester fibers and 4 polyethylene fibers. Due to this feature, such a cord is resistant to wear and has a sinking property, helping to deepen deep wobblers.

Varivas Super Trout Advance Max Pe 0.148mm, 11lb

This spinning braid belongs to the category of Japanese-made models, which are distinguished by an impressive cost. It has a round section and a slippery surface, has the most durable weaving. Such a fishing line is mainly used when fishing with a wobbler for a chub in small reservoirs. In addition, such a line can also be used for light fishing for pike from the shore and in the process of catching asp in the wake with castmasters. The breaking strength of this model is approximately 8 lb, the diameter is exactly as indicated.

One of the thinnest braided lines for spinning. The unwind is 120 m. It can be used in combination with baits weighing from 1 to 9 g and ultra-light tackle. Features a super tight weave and high abrasion resistance. Thanks to the slippery surface of the cord, it provides maximum reach. This spinning braid is suitable for catching small sea fish that live on a rocky bottom and belong to the rockfish family. It wears out quite slowly, but the small diameter of the cord allows frequent breaks when hooked.

Varivas Lite Game Mebaru 0.4 mm, 8 lb

A worthy Japanese-made model, also designed for catching marine prey belonging to the rockfish family. It has a dense weave and a slippery surface. It is used for micro jig fishing for fish such as perch. The actual breaking load is approximately 3 kg, which makes it possible to use this braid not only when fishing for perch, but also when fishing for larger fish.

Beware of fakes

How to choose a spinning cord and not buy a fake? Most often, such popular brands as Power Pro and Fire Line are counterfeited, of which American-made Power Pro braided cords have been the unchanging leaders in the number of fakes for quite a long time. How to distinguish a fake from a high quality product? Power Pro originals differ exclusively in odd diameters and are sold in plastic packaging, which must have a barcode. The package should contain an insert indicating the appropriate components for a particular model. The fishing line itself must be wound on a special reel, which allows high-quality winding of the fishing line on the spool.
