Heated gloves from USB OWN HANDS-WITHOUT NICHROME.

Hello to all fishermen, hunters, tourists. Today I will share my experimental idea - heated gloves on CARBON TAPE.

A small caveat gentlemen - this article is not an ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION (usually these cost money)) BUT A DEMONSTRATION OF MY IDEA - AND WHAT WE GOT. The author of the article and the site is not responsible for the misuse of heating elements and power sources - and the harm caused by them.

So with the lyrics finished, let's get down to business.

I decided to try to make heated gloves - so to speak, so that staying in the cold would bring only pleasure and at the same time run in a new heating element once more.

As a basis, I took inexpensive knitted (but it can be more powerful and warmer) gloves in one of the inexpensive chain stores.

Such warm - cozy - like grandmothers (well, except for the quality of course))

I turned both inside out .. to calculate the tape itself.

Now briefly about the tape itself. This is a new development of our craftsmen, as I understand it, a heating element of a new generation. When voltage is applied to it, it gives heat. The rest depends on voltage and current. .It has a good heating area, unlike nichrome. It comes in different widths - my version is 15mm wide.

Having calculated approximately the required length - so that there would be a perceptible heating from a power bank of 5 volts (this was a fundamental condition for me) - it turned out to be about 1 meter of tape - but when connecting 1 meter to the power bank, the heating is barely noticeable. Therefore, I made two segments of 50 cm with parallel connection .. The resistance and heating increased, I got about 5v-0.9-1.0A (for one glove) - and the heat is already felt very even. The measurement showed approx + 38 + 45С

I laid out the tape on the glove beforehand, grabbed it with threads and double-sided tape.

I decided to insulate inner part palms - for working with metal and other cold ones. But you can also use the outer part - this is what anyone needs.

Now I connect the power wire - I chose it more powerful and more beautiful))

According to the available information, it is not difficult to connect the tape - just make a twist-wire-tape (if this is a simple option)

Working with the tape requires a little accuracy - since its unprocessed cutting edges are peeling off - and it will not work to burn it - it heats up to red - does not burn, does not melt.

The entire connection was clamped with heat shrink insulation.

I finally mounted the wires.

It finally looks something like this. The places where the wire and the tape are connected heat a little more, so I additionally insulated it by hand with felt spacers.

These dear readers turned out to be heated gloves. Please do not judge strictly - by the way this is new material for me and I probably, no matter how it sounds pathetic, the first on Russian YouTube and the Internet, who began to work with him, so at home with their own hands and mounted it in gloves working from a power bank. The material is definitely interesting - I see its pluses - I'm trying to understand the minuses and I want to find more use for it. This is how the first pass turned out. If you score on YouTube ** Do-it-yourself heated gloves ** mine will be somewhere at the top and so far the only ones with FULL HEATED palms and fingers. I will be grateful. All links to consumables in the description of the video.

If you are interested in other winter homemade products, you can find them on this site - among my articles and on the YouTube channel. As always, I say goodbye not for long, until the next ideas (and they will be even more interesting))

Those who want to feel as comfortable as possible in cold weather should consider purchasing such an accessory as heated gloves. Reviews about this new product on this moment are ambiguous. In any case, in general, users are advised to purchase only expensive products from manufacturers with a good reputation. Chinese models are often of poor quality and do not justify even their low cost.

Types of heated gloves

There are two main types of such an accessory:

  • gloves designed for outdoor use in winter;
  • USB models that warm hands when working at a computer.

Both can be useful in different situations.

Outdoor option

Heated gloves can be very useful both for residents of the northern regions of Russia and for those who like to spend time outdoors in winter, that is, hunters, fishermen, climbers, tourists, skiers, etc. The principle of operation of such gloves is quite simple. Heating elements are usually inserted between the outer warm layer, topped with a moisture-proof composition, and the lining. They are inserts made of carbon conductive fiber. As a power source, either batteries (most often three AA batteries) or small lightweight (weighing a few grams) batteries can be used.

What to consider when buying

It is worth paying attention to:

  • Manufacturing material. Actually, the fabric of the gloves itself should warm the hands well and be waterproof.
  • The location of the heating element. It should be exactly between the two layers of gloves - outer and inner. If the elements are located outside, there will be no special effect from them. In some low-quality models, the heaters are located inside without a gasket. In this case, the hands will simply burn when used.
  • If you plan to wear gloves in extreme cold or when traveling on some kind of open equipment (motorcycle, hang glider, etc.), purchase a model with heating elements located over the entire surface of the product, and not just on the back of the hand.
  • If it is not supposed to perform particularly complex periodic actions with hands in the cold, you can think about purchasing a heated clutch. Such models are more efficient.
  • Switching on/off should be automatic. If the elements are constantly heated, in not too cold weather, the hands will begin to burn.

Reviews of models that meet all these requirements are mostly positive from consumers. Of course, when buying such gloves, you should pay attention to the size. When worn, the products should not dangle or fit the brush too tightly.

Heated USB gloves

This is another variety, at the moment no less popular than street models. Such gloves are used mainly when working at a computer or laptop in cold rooms. Most often, these are products with "circumcised" fingers, additionally equipped with mittens.

The power source in this case is the computer or laptop itself. Connection is made through any free USB port. The cable comes with these gloves included. If your fingers get cold during work, you can warm them up by putting on the top mitten.

Pekatherm heated gloves reviews

As already mentioned, the opinions of buyers about such accessories are very different. In general, this idea is recognized as useful and necessary. However, since the modern domestic market is filled with low-quality Chinese-made products, one can often hear not too flattering statements about such products.

  • very ill-conceived unaesthetic design;
  • poor qualities of the fabric itself, which does not heat at all and passes moisture;
  • inefficiency of the heating elements;
  • inconvenience to use.

Heated Pekatherm gloves (GU920 - the most common model) are inexpensive - less than 3,000 rubles. However, their quality, apparently, leaves much to be desired.

Other models

Somewhat more popular among consumers are Blazewear gloves, which have a fairly attractive design and warm hands much more efficiently. There are models of this manufacturer in the region of 5000 rubles.

As for USB gloves, they are often used as an additional heating accessory, since they are not intended for too much cold weather. In general, these are quite popular heated gloves. Reviews from most consumers about them are simply wonderful. Some even use them from time to time as a heating pad for different parts of the body.

How to choose the size

To determine which gloves are best for you, you can do the following:

  • the distance from the tip of the middle finger to the place on the wrist where you wear the watch is measured;
  • according to the result, the size is selected.

So, if the distance was 17 cm, model S is suitable, if 18 cm - M, 19 cm - L. For people with very big hands accessory provided

Self-manufacturing

Some people are interested in how to make DIY heated gloves. This procedure is not too complicated if you manage to purchase heating pads. Finding them is quite simple, for example, you can buy on the Internet. These overlays are sewn to any gloves from the wrong side in the right places.

It is better to wear such a homemade accessory with additional thin lower mittens. In this case, during operation, you will not burn your hands. However, it’s easier not to bother and buy ready-made heated gloves. You can make a more convenient model with your own hands, but you will have to spend a lot of time making it.

Operation features

The power source for such accessories can be (three for each). Heated gloves are also available with a battery of approximately 3.7 V and 2200 mA. You can also purchase models recharged from the cigarette lighter of a motorcycle, car or snowmobile. In order to prolong battery life, manufacturers recommend periodically turning off the switch.

Heated gloves are typically rated for several hours of continuous heating. However, such prolonged use in this mode is often unnecessary. In most cases, a few minutes are enough to reach a comfortable temperature. After that, gloves only maintain the necessary degrees.

So, the conclusion from all of the above can be drawn as follows: buy expensive, high-quality heated gloves. Feedback on models from well-known manufacturers from consumers is good. Buying cheap Chinese products is in most cases a waste of money.

Nature decreed that in cold weather a person's hands freeze. This is a protective reaction to the cold and prevents unpleasant consequences such as frostbite. Mittens or gloves for winter fishing- This is a necessary element of the equipment of the winter fisherman.

Why do we need

Mittens or gloves are essential for ice fishing. Sometimes you can fish with gloves or mittens, baring your hands only when you have to drag the prey. And sometimes, due to the peculiarities of fishing, you have to fish with with bare hands, and then mittens or gloves are needed in order to warm the hands from time to time.

Interesting! Different people have cold hands in different ways. It depends on how close the capillaries are to the skin on the fingers, and on the overall metabolic rate.

What types are

Mittens

Mittens, they are also mittens, do not have split fingers. But according to tradition, mittens are called products that have an outer layer of one or another dense material and an inner layer of some kind of insulation. Mittens also have a uniform structure.

The outer layers of mittens for winter should be made of a water-repellent and waterproof material so that the inner layer remains dry even if the mittens fall into the water. Such materials can be velor, leather, polyester. The inner layer is made from natural materials such as fur or sheepskin, or from a synthetic heat insulator that can retain the heat of the hands.

In addition to one-piece mittens, there are flap valve models. This option may be useful when different types winter fishing, when it is required to carry out short operations in the open air with bare fingers. Such mittens are knitted or made of synthetic materials such as thinsulate. They are not as bulky as fur mittens, but they still do not protect hands from the cold so reliably.

Also found mittens with separated thumb and forefinger, but such products are not very popular, because in terms of their functionality they are not much different from ordinary mittens.

Gloves

There are two types of gloves:

  • whole when all fingers are closed;
  • with exposed phalanges of fingers (mittens), and the degree of openness of the fingers may be different.

Knitted gloves can be made from wool, synthetic materials, or a combination of both. In warm weather, regular cotton work gloves can be used. Knitting can be single and double.

Important! The fisherman should be aware that gloves made of modern synthetic materials do not heat, but only retain the warmth of the hands. Therefore, for very cold weather, woolen gloves are preferred.

Useful improvements to gloves are overlays made of dense material on the palm, which prevent rubbing of the product in this place and allow you to hold the rod more firmly, since non-slip material such as suede is used for the overlays.

Handmade knitted

Mittens and gloves can be handmade, the latter being rarer due to the complexity of the knitting process. But with hand knitting, it is possible to add any additional elements that seem necessary to the angler.

What is better to choose - gloves or mittens

The choice is determined by the fishing method that the angler prefers. The following options can be considered:

  1. Active fishing on mormyshka with a nozzle. Since the angler has to constantly move the rod, depending on the degree of weather comfort, he can wear:
  • fingerless gloves when relatively warm;
  • one piece gloves, but those that do not make it difficult to play with a fishing rod and that can be easily thrown off when playing prey;
  • warm mittens, which have a soft top layer so that the angler can feel the rod through the mitten.
  • Fishing with a baitless mormyshka. Such fishing requires increased sensitivity of the hands from the angler, so he can:
    • to catch with bare hands and have warm mittens on hand to warm hands from time to time;
    • fishing with gloves without fingers, if they do not interfere with the required movements of the fishing rod.
  • Passive fishing. Fishing for jig and float gear with or without food. The best choice is warm fur gloves, which have to be thrown off only at the moment of hooking and playing the fish.
  • Fishing on zherlitsy or on donks. It is also recommended to use warm fur gloves.
  • Winter lure fishing. Depending on weather conditions and individual sensitivity to cold, you can use:
    • fingerless gloves;
    • gloves with fingers;
    • soft mittens with a folding valve;
    • warm soft gloves.

    Store Selection Rules

    It doesn’t matter what you have to choose, gloves or mittens, the sequence of actions should be as follows:

    1. Fitting. Gloves or mittens should not be tight, but they should not fall off the hands either.
    2. visual inspection to identify potential product defects.
    3. Tactile product research, i.e. its palpation for compliance with the expected requirements.
    4. Checking the quality of the insulation- it shouldn't fall apart.
    5. Checking the quality of seams- they should be even and threads should not stick out of them.
    6. If a shoulder strap is attached to the product, then you need to check its length and inspect the place where it is sewn.
    7. If gloves are equipped with heating, then you should check how it works in the store.
    8. If the product has a warranty card, then find out the warranty period and do not forget the card in the store.

    Healthy! Since there are always fishing rods in the store, you should, wearing gloves or mittens, simulate the fishing process. It is possible that a product that fits well on the hand will be uncomfortable to use.

    What are heated gloves? Are they needed?

    Heated gloves are modern piece of fishing equipment based on innovative technology. Inside the product is a small mechanical device that starts working when the angler puts on a glove on his hand. The cost of such gloves is not affordable for everyone and you have to choose which is better: comfort while fishing or possible frostbite.

    The outer layer of such gloves is made of a moisture-repellent and durable material that prevents damage to the heating element. Do you need these gloves or not? Here you need to be guided by the conditions in which most fishing takes place and, of course, the climatic conditions of the region where these fishing takes place.

    Overview of existing models

    Heated mittens Pekatherm GU930

    The principle of operation of this product is described above. The innovation was to the taste of those anglers who, for the most part, rarely have to take off their gloves, for example, if they are fishing with a lure. big fish, and the frosts are serious.

    Pattern.

    On a sheet of paper, outline the contours of the palm, noting where it is located thumb. Allowances are given: 1.5 centimeters for a loose fit and 1 centimeter for seams. On another sheet, circle the thumb, marking the junction with the palm.

    Materials:

    • dense preferably waterproof fabric;
    • sheepskin.

    Tools:

    • scissors;
    • sewing machine.

    The manufacturing process looks like this:

    1. Cut out the details according to the pattern.
    2. Sew them up.
    3. Lay the sheepskin inside and sew.

    Warming of the purchased model

    To warm the finished mitten, use an old fur coat made of faux fur. To do this, cut out the sleeve from the old sleeve, sheathe its edges so that they do not fray. The resulting clutch will additionally warm the wrist.

    Attention! In addition to the well-known characteristics of gloves or mittens, one should not forget about their length. The wrist should not freeze in any case.

    What products are the best

    Gloves

    The product that meets most of the requirements for ice fishing is the Norfin Magnet flap valve glove.

    Mittens

    Warm and waterproof Artmex mittens. Not only can the hands in them not freeze in principle, but even after the mittens have been dropped into a hole or a puddle on ice, they remain warm and dry inside.

    Useful video

    Hands on winter fishing should not freeze. In order for this unconditional statement to become a reality, many companies, Russian and foreign, are developing and manufacturing warm and comfortable gloves and mittens that give the angler the opportunity to enjoy fishing and not think about the unpleasant consequences of exposure to cold.

    Knipovich Nikolai Mikhailovich

    Zoologist, hydrobiologist. Graduated from Leningrad State University named after Zhdanov, Faculty of Biology and Soil. I am a professional fisherman.

    Winter is already knocking on the door, the cold is coming. Any winter clothes heated is now very relevant, so this review will focus on heated gloves from warmspace. I invite everyone under cat.

    The gloves came in a rather bright, slightly shabby yellow package with Chinese characters. On the top left there is even a sticker of authenticity that they say the product is original.

    Material: cotton 60% + polyester 40%
    Power: 2.5W
    Battery: 2000mAh li-on 3.7v
    Charging time: 2 hours
    Heating time: 3-4 minutes
    Size: 12.5x30cm (L - width 12cm, length from middle finger to wrist 18-21cm)

    Each model has its own characteristics

    Model, power, battery capacity, voltage, charging time, warm-up time, heating temperature, heating location

    In the kit we have: gloves, two 2000mAh batteries, a double usb cable, a power adapter and annotation completely in Chinese. The adapter for the euro plug was not included. Either clamped, or forgot to put.

    Appearance

    The gloves look pretty good. The material is pleasant to the touch. The gloves have clasps to keep them snug on the hand. Outside they are made of synthetics (polyester). A cashmere black insert with the "warmspace" logo is sewn into the upper part, and there is a rubberized padding on the palm itself. The quality of performance pleases.

    They are sewn neatly. There are no loose threads anywhere. Only in this place in both gloves I found a couple of threads, carefully cut them off and that's it. We can say that in general the quality of tailoring is excellent.

    The inside of the gloves are made of cotton. The material is nice and thick. The hands inside the gloves do not slip and feel good inside. It is also perfectly sewn, no crime and no smell of China.

    The pocket for the battery closes with a zipper and is sheathed on the inside with a pink material. There is a lot of space inside it, if you wish, you can put a larger battery. After connecting the plug, the gloves immediately begin to heat up, no on / off buttons are provided. The heating element itself is located under the pocket, which covers the entire front of the palm.

    This is what the batteries and charger look like. Batteries weight 46 grams, size: 4x5cm. Charging time from the native adapter is 2.5 hours. Charging with a more powerful adapter is reduced by almost an hour, the charging current sometimes reaches 2.5A. I advise you to use your native one, since such a fast charge will significantly reduce its resource.

    Testing

    Testing was carried out using a conventional outdoor thermometer on a cold windowsill. Since there is only one thermometer, all measurements were taken in turn. Temperature reading without heating 24 degrees:

    With the heating turned on, the temperature inside the glove rose to 37-38 degrees in 5 minutes. The temperature does not rise above 40 degrees. Heating comes from the back of the hand and goes to the fingers. When gloves are worn on the hand, the warmth is very well felt. One full charge is enough for 2 hours, after this time the heat immediately begins to weaken.

    Photo on hand

    I walked in these gloves in the evening for about an hour, it was -7 outside and there was a slight wind. I would like to say that the gloves are quite comfortable and there is very good warmth, the hands even begin to sweat. But it seems to me that it will not be enough in severe frosts, all the same, 40 degrees (well, even take 45, if they are on hand, okay) this is not very much. However, the Chinese were cunning with the characteristics ... The optimal temperature, in my opinion, at which the body temperature will be kept in them is -20. Even if the temperature outside is lower, you will feel the cold much later than with ordinary gloves.

    Outcome

    Gloves are pleasant to the touch. Thick material, well made. The only thing is that they are very thick in them, it will be inconvenient to grab some small things (keys, phone) and put your hands in your pockets. The absence of a power button and a charge indicator means some inconvenience in their use. But otherwise, they are quite themselves ... You can go skiing and play snowballs. Take not take - the choice is yours. There are both negative and positive
