If there is a desire and opportunity, you can install two motor-wheels at once. The installation process involves the following steps:

1. A new star and a belt pulley are mounted on the axis of the carriage;

2. Then a shaft with a drive pulley is attached to the seat tube;

3. The pulleys are interconnected with a belt, and through the wires the shaft is connected to a power source;

4. The wires from the battery are pulled to the switch on the steering wheel.

Note! The battery is best placed on the lower front tube of the frame or on the trunk.

Summing up all of the above, it should be noted that it is still possible to assemble an electric bicycle in the DIY style, but for this you need to find all the necessary details, spend a little time and nerves. The very operation of such a vehicle should not be accompanied by any difficulties, of course, except for the surprised looks of passers-by, which, however, is more of a compliment to you.

The most commonly used power unit is extracted from the friendship chainsaw - it is best suited for this design, plus finding it at a fairly low price is no problem. Of course, as a "base" you can use more modern bike and a motor, but the feasibility of such a solution from an economic point of view raises some doubts - for the price you pay, it is quite possible to buy a good used Japanese moped without having to do anything with your own hands.

It should be noted that especially for lovers of home-made units, many companies produce motors designed for installation on bicycles - by purchasing such a kit, you just have to follow the attached instructions. With proper implementation of all points, installation should not cause any problems. We'll talk about the option described in the first paragraph - how to make a moped from an old bicycle and a chainsaw (or a lawn mower - this is not so important).

The first thing to determine is the power of the motor. Engines with a power of 1 hp they will not be able to set your vehicle in motion on their own, that is, you will have to give it some acceleration, pushing off the asphalt with your feet. 2 HP - it's already much better.

In addition to the motor, we need a pulley (a wheel from a small children's bike), a belt that will be pulled over this pulley, as well as a set of tools and materials from which you will make fasteners.

The simplest option is when the motor is mounted on top of the rear wheel. In this case, you will have to make fasteners yourself, since the bicycle trunk may simply not withstand the weight of the motor. The optimal solution would be steel elements having a thickness of about 3-4 mm. You should not overdo it here - remember that a frame that is too powerful, firstly, will increase the load on the rear wheel, and secondly, will increase the total weight of the moped (accordingly, it will be more difficult for the engine to accelerate it).

Try to find a “golden mean” in this matter between the strength of the structure and its weight. Connections in this design must be made by welding or, if you do not have a welding machine, by bolts. The second method is a little easier to implement, but less reliable - bolted connections tend to weaken, so there is some chance that your moped will simply fall apart one day. The engine itself can be attached to the frame using conventional steel clamps - this is the simplest and most reliable solution.

Next, you need to install a pulley on the rear wheel. As already mentioned, a wheel from a children's bicycle is perfect as a pulley, having a diameter one and a half to two times smaller than the diameter of your bicycle wheel. You can also use a gear - in this case, the belt will change to a chain. In general, these two solutions are approximately equivalent, so it’s worth choosing the one for the implementation of which you have materials (or it’s easier to get them).

When the motor and belt (or chain) transmission are installed, the only thing left is to put the throttle on the bike handlebars. For this, a regular cable is used, which can be bought at any hardware or hardware store. It is carried out along the frame by analogy with how the brake cables go (you can look at the design yourself and you will understand everything). The throttle handle can be made from the brake handle - this is the easiest way. Accordingly, you will gasp by pressing this knob.

As you can see, it is quite possible to make a moped out of a bicycle at home, moreover, there is absolutely nothing complicated in this work. The main thing when you finish the assembly is to break in your moped near the house before leaving on the road. So you will definitely be sure of its reliability.
