Mare frisky biography. English Thoroughbred: the fastest horse in the world

Subtly remarked that a good horse can not be bought for any money. The fastest horse in the world can easily compete with some vehicles. But such an animal is loved not only for its physical capabilities, but for its intelligence, graceful movements and majestic beauty. Modern society in big cities with great interest in horse racing. This is not only gambling, but also a real art.

A grain of history

Great Britain during the conquests was known for its powerful and frisky horses. The invention of firearms put forward new requirements for these animals. Enhanced agility, extended endurance, and significant speed have all been overhauled. Thus, a massive horse became a real burden for a cavalryman on the battlefield.

Until the 16th century, powerful horsemen did not fall under modified requirements. This situation prompted English horse breeders to create maneuverable breeds. Selection work was based on the implementation of a strict selection based on the results of the races. Only in the 17th-18th centuries did the first thoroughbred horses appear in England. The progenitors of the elite "Pegasus" were the best horses of the Eastern countries.

Mares from royal studs with an admixture of Spanish, Oriental and Hungarian breeds became the fundamental basis for the broodstock. The English king Henry VIII was very fond of jousting tournaments. The tough monarch paid close attention to the competition. On his orders, the first stud farms were created in the kingdom, which specialized in breeding breeding horses. After the death of the ruler, the selection business was continued by his own daughter Elizabeth I.

The best specimens of horses from all over the world began to be systematically imported to Europe. The crossing procedure to obtain a reference horse took a long time. Only in the 18th century was a breed of stallions obtained, which began to take an active part in tournaments popular at that time. Thus, the swift and beautiful Arabian horses became the ancestors of thoroughbred English riding horses.

Features of the English riding horse

The body structure and innate characteristics helped the English Thoroughbred to achieve the status of the fastest breed. Muscular torso, large head, high neck and long legs contributed to the orderly development of speed. Adult representatives of such horses reach a height at the withers from 160 to 170 cm with an average chest girth of 185 cm. In most cases, the color of animals is red and dark bay, less often - black and gray.

The key feature of the fastest horse in the world is the size of its heart. The volume of the central circulatory organ of the English stallion is 2 times larger than that of ordinary horses. There were cases when the "muscle bag" weighed 6300 grams. Such parameters allow the animal to adequately endure huge loads on the body.

Qualified horse breeders know that ordinary horse heart rate reaches 60 beats per minute. In a thoroughbred English horse, this figure is 140. It is worth noting that the well-being of such a handsome man is at an optimal level. Horses by nature are energetic and good-natured.

Forming an ideal pedigree for a horse is the most important condition for creating an entry in the book of the tribe. Only in this way will a fast stallion be able to obtain the status of a thoroughbred English horse. After all, only an officially registered animal can take part in the races.

The art of correct gait

The horse has been a reliable companion of man for many centuries. The animal was quite recently the main mode of transportation and an indispensable traction force. But the needs of society do not stand still, but require new correspondences and conditions.

By appointment, horses are divided into:

  • Traction. The fundamental task of such animals is to transport cargo over various distances. The transport speed is 15 to 20 km/h.
  • Horse. The agility of horses is much higher than that of ordinary ones.

The type of horse gait (gait) has a significant impact on speed. Experts identify the following options:

  • Walk - this is the slowest version of movement, in which the horse alternately stands on 4 legs;
  • Lynx. The animal moves two legs forward at the same time (diagonally: left rear and right front);
  • Amble - a scheme of horse movement, in which he carries two legs at once (left and right);
  • Gallop. This type of gait consists of a series of jumps with a certain sequence. This way of rearranging the legs allows you to develop maximum speed. In the natural environment, horses use such a run (20-65 km / h) to overcome long distances or to save their lives when attacked by a predator.

Winners "in the race for the wind"

The fastest horse in the world is the purebred horse "Beach Rekit". In 1945, in the densely populated city of Mexico City, the horse set the current world record. The legendary champion reached a speed of 69.6 km / h over a distance of 409 meters. Only 48 years later, this indicator was able to repeat the horse under the nickname "Onion Roll".

The stallion Siglevi Slave galloped 804 meters at a speed of 69.3 km/h. Before the birth of a new record, there was still a lot, since the horse was without a rider at all. Thus, no one managed to kill the highest indicator. However, it is replete with a large number of Pegasus victories according to other criteria. So, for example, the horse "John Henry" developed a speed of 60.7 km / h at a distance of 2.4 km with a rider weighing about 57 kg. The horse showed a serious level of endurance.

The English thoroughbred horse is the absolute leader in the world in terms of speed. It is worth remembering that such horses need systematic training and proper care. Only in this way it will be possible to get high results at the races and various races.

Born in 1933, unsightly English Thoroughbred. After a bad start to his career, Seabiscuit became a champion and a symbol of hope for many Americans during the Great Depression.

The young Seabiscuit was nothing, he was short, stocky, had problems with his legs, knotted wrists that did not fully unbend. Despite a good pedigree, no one expected great victories from Seabiscuit. Jim Fitzsimmons, the first owner of Seabiscuit, saw potential in him, but he could not overcome the horse's laziness, and did not want to do this, since he already had an almost ready favorite - Omaha.

Seabiscuit failed to win in his first ten runs. And after that, they lost all interest in him. At the age of two, Sukhar rode 35 times, of which 5 times he was the first, 7 - the second.

Seabiscuit was sold to car entrepreneur Charles Howard for a record low price of $7,500.

Seabiscuit is used to losing, but his new coach- almost resigned Tom Smith - was able to do the impossible - he put the horse on its feet, brought him out of the depressive state of a broken horse, thanks to a gentle individual approach. Tom Smith sensed extraordinary potential in the horse.

Seabiscuit's jockey was John Pollard, better known as Red Pollard. Pollard was not considered a good jockey, and his height, which exceeded the standard of jockeys, did not contribute to his popularity at all. But Smith decided to give him a chance, because he believed that he and Seabiscuit were similar, and there was some unusual connection between them.

Having won several victories, Charles Howard set his sights on winning the most prestigious race - Santa Anita Handicap with prize money of more than 100 thousand dollars. By that time, all the newspapers were following the racing career of an unsightly, previously unknown horse, standing on its feet, steadily going to the top from the very bottom. During the Great Depression, Seabiscuit was like an outlet for ordinary working people, a symbol of hope for a better future.

However, after winning the first run on Santa Enita, Seabiscuit lost. Rosemont came first, and the newspapers began to make headlines that a half-blind jockey had robbed a horse of a chance to win. Pollard was indeed blind in one eye, he did not see Rosemont over his shoulder until the last moment. The jockey hid the fact of his blindness throughout his career. Despite this, on the west coast Seabiscuit became a celebrity, he was talked about on radio and television, newspaper columns filled. Howard, with his business acumen, quickly moved into the marketing business, creating a complete range of fan merchandise. He then decided to take the horse to the more prestigious East Coast races.

In 1937, Seabiscuit won eleven of his fifteen races and was the leader in money won in the US. However, he never won Horse of the Year. This title went to the War Admiral, who won the Triple Crown that season.

In 1939, Sukhar was injured, ruptured the ligaments of his front left leg. It would seem that the racing career is over, but ... He was sent to recover at the Charles Howard ranch, where Red Pollard was already after his injury. The appearance of the horse gave him hope. And slowly, horse and rider began to recover.

During the autumn and winter of 1939, both horse and rider made a full recovery, and Smith was eager to piss off the veterinary community by bringing the horse back to the races with an old jockey.

On February 9, 1940, Pollard took part on Suhara in the Santa Anita Handicap, but only finished third. However, the return took place. At the time, the event made a lot of headlines in newspapers.

On April 10 of the same year, it was officially announced that Seabiscuit was retiring. He went to the Ridgewood Ranch near Willits, California. There he lived until his death, leaving behind 108 foals, of which two were quite successful - Sea Sovereign and Sea Swallow. The ranch hosted more than 50,000 people who wanted to see Seabiscuit.

The burial place of the horse is kept secret to this day and is known only to the closest relatives of the Howard family.

Secretariat

Born in 1970, English Thoroughbred, son of the famous Bold Ruler. The stallion, who in 1973 became the first Triple Crown winner in twenty-five years, set new records in the Triple Crown races of the Kentucky Derby (1:59 2/5), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24), which are still considered undefeated. .

Secretariat's history began with a coin toss in 1968 between Christopher Chenery of the Meadow Stables and Ogden Phipps of the Whitley Stable stable. The idea for the coin toss came from Phipps, the owner of the Bold Rulera. Tossing a coin meant that Bold Ruler would cover the mare for two years in a row and they would share the foals among themselves and the one who guessed the moment would be the first owner of the born foal. Ogden Phipps won the toss and took the first foal, a filly.

And on March 30, at 0:10 am, Somethingroyal gave birth to a bright red chestnut foal with three white socks and a narrow star on her forehead. Stable Meadow's secretary, Elizabeth Ham, submitted 10 names to the Jockey Club, but they were all rejected for various reasons. The approval finally came with the 11th extra, a name picked by Ham herself, selected from the previous career association, Secretariat.

Secretariat won most of the two-year-old company's races, losing only the very first one, and won the Eclipse Award for America's Best Two-Year-Old Stallion. However, many horse connoisseurs believed that in a three-year company he had no chance, because the children of Bold Ruler, who had exceptional agility, always lost in endurance.

Secretariat kicked off the three-year campaign with an easy win at the Bay Shoe Stakes at Aqueduct Racecourse. In the next race, the Gotham Stakes, Secretariat won the race from place to place, the first of his career. He covered the first 1200 m in 1:08:6 sec and completed the one-mile race in 1:33:4 sec, setting a new track record. However, in his next pitching he finished third at the Wood Memorial (1800m), losing to Shum, the winner of the Santa Anita Derby in the last final preparation for the Kentucky Derby. From that moment on, intense preparations began for the Triple Crown prize.

Kentucky Derby Secretariat won in record time (1:59:4). At the Precnies Stakes, Secretariat started last, taking the lead before the first corner. After that, the stallion brought the race to the end, none of the horses could resist him. Sham always followed him, coming in second and taking the place of the second favorite at the races. After the victory, Secretariat began to prepare for the final race of the Belmont Stakes Triple Crown, becoming at the same time a national hero of the country.

Only four horses joined Secretariat in the June 9, 1973, Belmont Stakes race, including Sham. Secretariat was declared the favorite with 1 in 10 odds, 67,605 people came to cheer for Secretariat.

Secretariat became the ninth Triple Crown winner in American Racing history.

Overall, Secretariat won 16 out of 21 races and earned $1,316,808.

At three years old (1972), Secretariat was again declared Horse of the Year.

In 1989, Secretariat fell due to laminitis, an often incurable disease of the hooves. After a month of treatment, it was clear that the disease was progressing and Secretariat was euthanized on October 4 at the age of 19. Triple Crown winner Secretariat was mourned by millions and buried at Claiborne Farm in Paris.

An autopsy showed that his heart was significantly larger than that of an ordinary horse.

Frisky (Ruffian)

Born in 1972, English thoroughbred mare, the legendary horse of America, the granddaughter of the famous Bold Ruler. She did not take second or third places - Raffian only won in good style. On July 7, 1974, she set a record for playfulness (1 min. 09 sec.). Only the jump, which became fatal, put an end not only to her victories, but also to her life.

From childhood, the black Raffian was somewhat different from her peers in her height and larger physique. And at the very first training session, she was able to impress her coach, having completed 3/8 of the distance in just 34 seconds.

Rezvaya made her first start at Belmont Park in New York on May 22, 1974. Her trainer, Frank Whiteley Jr., kept her agility a secret, so the stakes for the mare weren't high. The races were only a thousand meters long, and Jacinto Velasquez became a frisky jockey. From the start, Rezvaya easily took the lead and won by 15 lengths, setting a new track record of 1.03. Later, Rezva's race was called "The most outstanding race for debutants."

With each jump, Rezvaya became faster and faster. And, after several victories, her goal was the "Triple Crown" for mares. These were three races: Acorn Stakes (mile), Mather Goose Stakes (9 furlongs, i.e. 1800 m) and Coaching Club American Ox (1 1/2 miles).

Rezva's performance at the Acorn Stakes turned out to be somewhat unusual for those who know her style. Usually, always in the lead, Rezvaya at first allowed two mares to gallop next to her at once. But in the last meters, Rezvaya made up for such a speed that all the other horses seemed like statues in comparison with her. The black filly showed an absolute track record of 1:34 2/5. Mather Goose Stakes turned out to be almost a copy of the Acorn Stakes, and Swift again set a race record - 1:47 4/5. After winning the Coaching Club American Ox with a record time of 2:27 4/5, there was no longer any doubt which horse was the new "Queen of the Mares".

After taking the Triple Crown, Rezva was asked to duel with stallions. Eventually the NYRA (New York Racing Association) announced a duel race with Rezva and Foolish Pleasure on July 6, 1975 with prize fund at $350,000.

At first, Foulis Plezher took the lead, but very soon Rezvaya put an end to his leadership, and the horses began to walk side by side. Before the finish line, the leader changed at least five times. Closer to the finish line, Rezvaya has already begun to overtake Fulish Pleasure by half a length. It seems that only a moment is left before the victory of the black beauty, and the stands, filled with many fans, froze in anticipation. However, everything was crossed out by a sound from behind, similar to the sound of a broken stick or board. The outcome of the race was decided in an instant. Frisky, with an unnaturally dangling right front leg, slowed down, and Fulish Plezher crossed the finish line in silence.

Spectators watched the veterinary aid car rushing along the path, how the doctors rushed to the helpless Rezva. Both of Rezvoy's sesamoid bones were shattered. She underwent surgery on her leg, during which the black filly lost her breath twice, and twice she was brought back to life. But when she came out of anesthesia, she was so scared and in so much pain that clinic assistants couldn't get her to bed. She struggled in the stall, broke her cast and caused even more damage to her leg, and she had to be euthanized.

Black Frisky was buried near the flagpole in Belmont Park, where her swan song was first heard.

Mill Reef

Born in 1968, talented bay English Thoroughbred. Born in America, he was owned by one of the largest US horse breeders - Paul Mellon. At the age of one and a half, Mill Reef was sent to England, where he first became famous as a phenomenal horse, and then became an outstanding sire, leaving a bright mark on the world horse breeding. Sharing the same tracks with such prominent personalities as Brigadier Gerard and My Swallow, he became the history of English horse racing during his lifetime. John Oxy, author of the excellent book The History of Mill Reef, wrote: "Mill Reef has only had two racing seasons, but many people will not achieve more in their entire lives."

From childhood, Mill Reef ("Mill Reef" - that was the name of a narrow strip of coast near Mellon's house in Antigua) had a sweet disposition and amazing performance, but no one predicted a great racing career for him.

However, Mill Reef's talent began to show at the age of two, when the foal won the American 5-furlong Salisbury Stakes, 5 lengths ahead of the closest rival. Ian Balding becomes Mill Reef's coach, and from that moment the foal's ascent to the heights of glory in English and world horse racing begins. True, his third start, Prix Robert Papin, he loses to another famous horse of that time, May Swallow, a stallion of exceptional agility, losing only a head.

By the next spring, England had three horses of the highest class. Mill Reef's offender - May Swallow, as well as Brigadier Gerard, who won 17 out of 18 starts throughout his career, together with Mill Reef share this title.

The 2000 Guineas race was approaching - one of the five classic prizes for three-year-olds in England and the first step towards the title of "thrice crowned". At the start of the one and a half mile distance, Mill Reef came out only to win, but ... On the last furlongs, Brigadier Gerard flew past Mill Reef and May Swallow like two statues. This was Mill Reef's second and last defeat. No other horse could beat the little foal.

The 1971 season was the pinnacle of Mill Reef's career. Britain applauded his favorite, he gathered crowds of fans. This bay foal became the first horse to win back-to-back Derby, Diamond Stakes and Arc de Triomphe. Experts unanimously named him the Horse of the Year. There was talk of a rematch between him and Brigadier Gerard, whom they had never met since 2000 Guineas as lane rivals.

Meanwhile, Mill Reef continued to win. In the Epsom Coronation Cup, Mill Reef started as the lone favorite and finished first. However, it was not long before the end of the stallion's career.

On a clear sunny morning on August 30, 1972, Mill Reef left for his usual morning drive in his long-time native Kingscle. Around the same time, Milton ordered one of the famous sculptors John Skipping three bronze statues of his favorite. As Skiping later said, removing wet rags that morning from the clay model of the future statue (they wrap the model to keep the material moist), he noticed that the clay had slipped off one of the front legs of Mill Reef, exposing the bars of the supporting structure. Later, the sculptor learned that on this strange morning while galloping in Kingscle Mill Reef, he broke his front leg. The foal's racing career was over.

A long struggle began, no longer for access to the racetrack, but simply for the life of a brave fighter and a real person. Ian Balding immediately opposed any attempt to transport Mill Reef from Kingscle to a veterinary clinic. The operating room was done in the same place, in the stable. A great specialist and master of his craft, Charles Allen, flew in specifically for the operation on the limbs. Mill Reef showed courage and patience, which is not always found even among people. Hundreds of people sent cards and gifts for their idol. The strength of mind and the love of those around helped the courageous bay to cope with the disease.

In 1973 Mill Reef began a new career as a sire at the British National Stables in Newmarket. Mill Reef has been named Producer of the Year twice, in 1978 and 1987. In the summer of 1985, already a veteran of racing sports, he underwent heart surgery. However, the years take their toll, and in February 1986, at the age of 19, the racing legend left this world.

Absinthe, his son and grandchildren

Absent - a black stallion, belongs to one of the oldest breeds of riding horses - Akhal-Teke, repeated champion of the USSR (1959-1963)

Recently, researchers have come to the conclusion that Absent was not a purebred Akhal-Teke, since his father is a gray stallion Arab (the army nickname Kazbek is one of the favorite horses of Marshal Zhukov), and his mother is a brown mare Bakkara.

The most famous horse of the USSR. In 1960 on Olympic Games in Rome, he won the first highest Olympic award in the history of Soviet equestrian sport in dressage. For the equestrian sport of the USSR, this award was as significant as the flight of the first man into space. Absent was raised at the stud farm of the Lugovskoy state farm (Merkensky district, Dzhambul region), where grateful people erected a monument to the horse. Absinthe served Soviet sports until the age of 18, then they almost cooked kazy out of it due to the negligence of the stud farm workers. After such a strong moral shock, the horse ended up in the stable of the Moscow army. "Demobilized", Absinthe again returned to his homeland, and then was transported to live out his life at the 54th stud farm, which is on the shore of Issyk-Kul. Absent's son - Abakan - also left his horseshoe imprint in history: in 1976 he won the world championship in dressage, for eight years he was a member of the national team. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Absent are the strongest in the world and win prizes.

Lipizzan horses

In Styria (Austria), learned waltz horses are bred and raised in the imperial residence in Vienna. They are born completely black, and after a few years they turn completely gray. They are equated with civil servants and at the end of their artistic career they receive full state allowance, returning to the same stall of their native farm where they were born.

Arvaikheer

The monument to the stallion Arvaikheer is the pride of the inhabitants of the small Mongolian town of Arvaikheer. Note that the name of the horse is not given by the name of the city, but the city got its name from the name of the horse. And the stallion Arvaikheer became famous for the fact that for 20 years he won at the races of all rivals.

Eclipse

It was his name that history retained under the title "Horse of the Century."

He competed at the races for twenty-three years and was never defeated, for which he received the title "horse of the century." Until now, at the races in Derby, the fastest horses are awarded the Eclipse Prize.

The horse received such a name because it was born on the day of Eclipse - a solar eclipse - on April 1, 1764. The stallion's exterior was extremely strange: the back is high, the shoulders are heavy and long, and when he galloped, he pulled his muzzle to the ground so that jockeys often he was dumped. Because of these physiological features not every jockey could sit on it during the race. Or, to be more precise, the only one. That man was John Oakley.

Eclipse subsequently became the ancestor of the most common and leading horse breed - the English Thoroughbred.

Now, almost all the best horses in the world have their roots in the Eclipse.

However, Eclipsa also has its own Kinisem. This is the only horse to win at the races more wins than Eclipse. She won for the first time in 1876. Then, for 4 years in a row, a thoroughbred mare won in all races in a row.

Eclipse died of colic at the age of 24. It was then that the secret of his invincibility was discovered: the horse of the century had a phenomenal heart - weighing 6 kg 300 g (on average, the heart of a good racehorse weighs about 5 kg)! Eclipse also had huge lungs.

Today, every visitor to the Newmarket Hippodrome can see right at the entrance the bronze monument of Eclipse, cast in honor of the 200th anniversary of the death of the great horse.

Square

The famous Oryol trotter. The only horse in the country awarded two monuments during its lifetime, two-time derby wrestler, record holder among Oryol trotters, the father of numerous tribal offspring and an enviable long-liver. He was the star of the Moscow hippodrome, set several all-Union records at the races.

Kvadrat is an elegant stallion with a beautiful dry head, a moderately long neck and a harmonious strong physique. He was handsome and agile, but his white-socked legs were weak. Despite this significant shortcoming, his future rider (Alexander Rodionovich Roshchin) decided to take this stallion for training.

The learning process turned out to be very difficult, since the Square had a difficult character. It happened that the Square bit the person from whom he had just received a treat, or he could unexpectedly kick the rider with his foot.

Later it turned out that the Square is not only a principled sissy, but also a malingerer. Once, before an important competition, he began to limp, but neither the examinations helped to find the cause, nor the treatment brought any result. But the next day the horse walked on all four legs, as if nothing had happened. But he was forgiven everything for his merits.

A triumphant year for him was 1950, when he won both the winter and summer trotter derbies and the open derby, where he took the Grand All-Union Prize and the Bars Prize. At this point, the Square was facing treadmill 30 times, won 19 overall victories and came second 8 times.

Once, when, after a desperate struggle with strong rivals, the rider, in order not to torment Kvadrat, lowered the reins, the trotter himself jerked, caught up with the leader and stretched his neck so that the photo finish showed: Kvadrat's nose crossed the finish line first!

After graduation sports career, Kvadrat returned to his native Moscow stud farm. Until the end of his life, he managed to become the father of 620 foals, many of which were sold to 14 countries of the world.

The square is the only horse in the country, in honor of which 2 monuments were erected during its lifetime. One is at the building of the arena of the 1st Moscow stud farm, and the second, installed at VDNKh, did not survive.

Aniline

Born in 1961, English thoroughbred, one of the most famous horses of the USSR

He had no equal in the USSR.

At the Voskhod stud farm in Krasnodar Territory- one of the best stud farms in our country erected a monument to the thoroughbred horse breed Anilin. To the same Anilin, who, like the wind, rushed through the hippodromes of Europe and America, Anilin won 22 of the 28 races in which he took part. He has won 22 of the 28 races he has competed in. He had no equal in the USSR. It was on it that the jockey of the international category Nikolai Nasibov won one of the largest prizes - the "Prix of Europe", "Thrice-married", according to foreign media, for three years in a row. Foreign newspapers enthusiastically wrote about the Soviet horse, calling him a real Russian hero.

The horse was famous for its stellar habits. During his glory years, he had a whole staff of servants, from time to time he pretended to be sick and watched with pleasure how everyone was fussing around.

Thumbelina and Radar

The smallest horse in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records, whose height is only 45 centimeters, and it weighs 26 kilograms.

Tambelina takes part in a tour of America - visits kindergartens, hospitals and schools. Like a real star, she carries all her property with her - she has her own bedroom and car.

The largest horse in the world by name Radar met with the smallest horse in the world named Tambelina. The growth of horses at the withers is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records - 2 meters at Radar and 45 centimeters at Tambelina.

force

Soviet stallion heavy breed. In 1951, he set a record for carrying capacity that has not yet been broken. He carried a load of 23 tons for 35 meters.

Far Lap (Phar Lap)

Thoroughbred "lightning" of Australia

1926 year of birth

Far Lap's life is full of drama, it was, one might say, tragic. And besides, from birth to death, shrouded in mystery. In the hippological chronicle, the nicknames and fates of the “horses of the century”, “horses of the nation” are known. Such for Australia was the famous "king of the races" Far Lap.

In the early 30s of the twentieth century, the purebred red giant had no equal both in his homeland and on the American continent. As suggested, this was the reason for his sudden mysterious death. The Australians did not forget the great horse. An effigy of Far Lap - the legend of the fifth continent - is installed under glass in the lobby of the National Museum of Australia. About him, the frantic writer and reporter Egon Erwin Kisch wrote in his book Landing in Australia: “Surprised and excited, we stand in front of him, look into his glassy eyes, mentally stroke his golden wool.”

He was born October 4, 1926 in New Zealand. His father is Night Reid, his mother is Entrity, and he himself was named Far Lap, which means "lightning" in Sinhalese. The time of his triumph coincided with the times of the Great Depression of the 30s, for four seasons (1929-1932) the stallion won 37 out of 51 starts. . The gold plate shows the result of his life - a total gain of 66,783 pounds sterling. Several postage stamps are dedicated to this horse. Agree, not every hero, and not every ruler is awarded such an honor.

A feature film about this stallion called "King of the Races" was created by Australian filmmakers in 1983, and immediately received three national prizes upon release. Badges, postcards, paintings and other souvenirs with his image are in great demand among collectors.

He began his performances in the spring of 1929, and in the autumn of that year he became the favorite of all the races in which he took part. Competing in the Cup at the age of four, Far Lap carried 4kg more than any horse of his age to date.

The death of Far Lap is mysterious and sudden. On a California private ranch in the United States, where he was brought to participate in American horse racing, in the early April morning, the groom Tommy Woodcock discovered that his ward was sick. And at noon the world learned of the death of the great Australian horse. An autopsy revealed inflammation of the intestines. The version of deliberate poisoning of the stallion was considered. Although modern scholars believe that possible cause Far Lap's death may have been an infection that often occurs in horses traveling long distances. The infection was caused by bacteria that were not known to science in the first half of the last century.

milton

This great show jumper was named Milton after the English epic poet John Milton. He was born near Oxford in 1977 from a steeplechase stallion Marius.

Carolina Bradley bought Milton as a six-month-old foal. At first they performed, like their father in hurdling, and then Carolina prepared Milton for show jumping. The horse was extremely talented. But unexpectedly, Carolina fell ill and died, leaving a will not to sell the horse, but to transfer it to the best show jumper in Great Britain, John Whitaker.

The couple were phenomenal. Both of them were nicknamed John Milton and this invariable duet has a huge number of victories. A great artist lived in the delicate soul of a beautiful horse. Winning the Grand Prize, the horse always performed elements worthy of the Viennese school. Milton's last show jumping was won in 1994. in Glasgow.

Only three jumping horses: Milton, Japelu and Canada's Big Ben had the honor of making a farewell world tour to mark the end of their sporting careers.

Zenyatta

2004 year of birth

Zenyatta is an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorses, undefeated in 19 races out of 20. Her nickname is "Queen" or "Queen Z", also "Dancing Lady". This horse was named after The Police's Zenyatta Mondatta album. Zenyatta was born on April 1, 2004 in Kentucky.

Zenyatta's character is two-sided. On the one hand - melancholic, calm. Not afraid of any flashes, crowds. Doesn't rear up. Dancing - yes, breaking out - yes. But to stand on its hind legs - never. And on the other hand, the character of the champion affects.

American jockey Mike Smith rode Zenyatta for 17 out of 20 races, David Flores rode the mare for the first three races. Zenyatta's height is 183 cm, weight 552 kg. The lorry was sold at the Keeneland auction for a small amount of $60,000, due to lichen, but despite this, Zenyatta earned $7,304,580 during her career.

Zenyatta began her career at the age of three at the end of the season.

From 2007 to 2010 this mare was invincible, no one could overtake her. She had amazing technique. The mare always found itself in the last position from the start and only before the last turn approached the group of leaders and won the race by a small margin.

Zenyatta has won 17 Stakes races, including 13 of the first group.

In 2009, Zenyatta won the most prestigious prize: "peeder`s Cup Classic".

On October 2, 2010, Zenyatta set a new North American record for the number of first group races won by a mare (previously held by two-time champion Bayacoa). In addition, Zenyatta set a new North American record for the amount of winnings by a mare (before that it belonged to Aujia Board 6,312,552 dollars). Zenyatta had won $6,404,580 by then.

He has the titles - Horse of the Year 2010 and Horse of the Century, as well as the best senior horse in 2008, 2009, 2010.

Considered invincible in the past, Zenyatta ended his career losing the $5 million Breeders Cup. Her loss was only half a head.

The victory was snatched from her by the claws of the stallion Blame. Nobody expected this. After all, this race was the last race of Zenyatta. After Breeders, they planned to send her into retirement.

It should be noted that this news brought disappointment not only to trainers and owners of the animal, but also to connoisseurs of GUINNESS beer.

Many media outlets report that GUINNESS, a strong Irish beer maker, has previously officially announced that if Zenyatta wins the Breeders Cup competition, he is ready to invite Zenyatta, her coach John Shirreffs (John Shirreffs) and owners Jerry and Ann Moss (Jerry and Ann Moss at Saint James Gate Brewery in Dublin. Here, according to representatives of the press service of Diageo, it was planned to celebrate the end of Zenyatta's career and pay tribute to the quality beer GUINNESS.

Shirreffs, Zenyatta's trainer, has said more than once that he poured a bottle of GUINNESS beer into the drinker every day - and the horse drank it with pleasure. She preferred this particular brand.

"It was all a fairy tale, but it didn't end the way everyone wanted it to," Shirreffs said in an interview with the press on Sunday, November 7th. "That's why I'm filled with annoyance. However, Zenyatta is happy no matter what and will continue to be happy.”

Przewalski's horse

Subspecies wild horse living in Central Asia.

As you know, Nikolai Mikhailovich Przhevalsky went to Tibet for the truth, but found a horse. Modern scientists have found that the Przewalski's horse is not the ancestor of the modern horse, as previously thought. Modern horses did not originate from this unsightly steppe horse, but from another - the tarpan. Tarpans were a rarity already in the last century, but they were still found in Poland and in the south of Russia.

Frisky (English Ruffian) - A mare of a thoroughbred riding breed, the legendary horse of America. She didn't finish second or third - Raffian only won in good style. Only the jump, which became fatal, put an end not only to her victories, but also to her life. July 7, 1974 set a speed record (1 min. 09 sec.)

Story

Frisky was born in America on April 17, 1972. A year and a few months later, she and other horses are brought to a farm called "Laurel Hill Farm", this was in November. It differed from other horses in that it was slightly larger and taller.

First workout

Rezvoy's first training session took place at the Belmont park racetrack in New York. She was given a task, she had to run 3/8 of the distance. The result amazed coach Rezvoy, 34.37 seconds.

racing career

Rezvaya made her first start at Belmont Park in New York on May 22, 1974. These races were called maiden (English maiden). In the racing "society" this is the name of the very first race for a horse. That is, a horse can even try to win in maiden until the end of his racing career, but without winning it, the horse has no right to participate in allowances and graduated races.

The race was only 5 and a half furlongs (i.e. 1000 meters) and they took place on the ground, not on the turf. Her regular jockey Jacinto Velasquez performed at Rezvoy. Under him, the black filly easily took the lead even at first, breaking away from the main group of horses by as much as fifteen lengths, and set a track record - 1.03. The excellent agility of the future champion remained a mystery until the very finish, of course, not without the efforts of her coach Frank Whiteley Jr., because the stakes on her were not very high, only 9:2, so the stable received a good win from the bookmakers. Later, the Razvoy race was called "The most outstanding race for debutants."

The next race of the already famous two-year-old filly Rezvoy was Fashion Stakes on June 12, 1974. Rezva's main rival in this race was considered Copernicus (eng. Copernica) from Nijinsky (eng. Nijinsky II), who became famous on the green lanes of England. The pedigree promised Koernike a good career, but not in the battle with Rezva. She easily took the pace offered by Copernicus and won by 6 1/2 lengths.

With each jump, Rezvaya became faster and faster. In the Astoria Stakes, Rezvaya finished in a time of 1:02. 45 for 5 1/2 furlongs (1000 meters); then to the Sorority Stakes for 6 furlongs (1200 meters) Rezvaya shows a time of 1:09; in Spinaway Stakes for the same 6 furlongs - 1:08 3/5. Frisette and Champagne Stakes were supposed to be the next races of the two-year-old Razva. The last race was supposed to be very intense, because there Rezvoy was to meet stallions for the first time, but a crack in the bone prevented Rezvoy from setting new two-year records.

The new target for Swift was the "Triple Crown" for mares, aka the Triple Tiara.

After winning the Coaching Club American Ox with a record time of 2:27 4/5, there was no longer any doubt which horse was the new "Queen of the Mares".

great duel

After taking the Triple Crown, Rezva was asked to duel with stallions. At first it was proposed to duel the race with Rezva, Foolish Pleasure and the Master Derby, but the meeting of the three horses was opposed by the coach of Foolish Pleasure, Leroy Jolly. He rightly pointed out that the Master Derby gets some advantage due to the fact that both Squishy and Foolish Pleasure start very briskly. Eventually the NYRA (New York Racing Association) announced a duel race with Rezva and Foolish Pleasure on July 6, 1975 for a $350,000 prize pool.

At first, Foulis Plezher took the lead, but very soon Rezvaya put an end to his leadership, and the horses began to walk side by side. Before the finish line, the leader changed at least five times. Closer to the finish line, Rezvaya has already begun to overtake Fulish Pleasure by half a hull.

She underwent surgery on her leg, during which the black filly lost her breath twice, and twice she was brought back to life. After the operation, Rezvaya, waking up after anesthesia, began to rush around the box and received a fracture of another leg. It is certain that a horse cannot live a normal life with two broken legs. The one that Frisky was put to sleep on July 7, 1975.

Black Frisky was buried near the flagpole in Belmont Park, where her swan song was first heard.

In memory of Rezvaya in 2007, the film "Rezvaya" (Ruffian) was filmed.

The fastest horse in the world is the English Thoroughbred. In its natural habitat, a horse can reach speeds of up to 18 km / h. Some selective breeds can set incredible speed records, for example, 60 km / h - this is not the limit for English thoroughbred breeds.

The fastest horse in the world is an English Thoroughbred.
  1. Thoroughbred horse.
  2. Arabian horses.
  3. French riding horses.
  4. Trotters (Russian, American, French, Oryol).

The palm in terms of agility rightfully belongs to thoroughbred riding horses. These beauties most recently bore the name of English horses, since they were grown only in England. But now they are popular and in demand all over the world, because of this they even had to change the name of the breed. A good thoroughbred riding horse is able to reach up to 63 km per hour at not very long distances, at a longer distance (up to 28 km) the speed of a horse of this breed will be 55 km per hour.

In its natural habitat, a horse can reach speeds of up to 18 km per hour.

The second place is given to the Arabian breeds. In terms of their agility, they will not stand any comparison with the leaders of the rating, but they will be able to compete among themselves for the championship in agility.

Well, on the lower step of the pedestal, the French proudly settled down. Most often, stallions of this breed take part in competitions in various types jumps, but if they were to compete in speed with riding Thoroughbreds, they would be able to show themselves worthy. Many species of trotters are capable of speeds up to 50 km per hour.

Characteristics of Thoroughbred Saddle Horses

The most frisky horses are thoroughbreds. The salient features of this breed are:

  1. Big heart (thoroughbreds also broke the record for the largest hearts). The largest heart (6.3 kg) belonged to a horse of this particular breed. Due to the size, the heart of animals of this breed is able to withstand a more serious load.
  2. The special structure of the body (lean, muscular, with long legs, large elongated head and long neck). All these features favorably affect the development of increased speeds.
  3. Color - red or dark bay, less often gray, black.

The type of gait, running, that is, gait, also affects the performance of a horse. We are interested in the gallop, as this is the type of running in which the animal develops maximum speed. In their natural habitat, these graceful animals use this species running in order to escape from the chase, threatening danger, and overcome a fairly short distance. This gait is not suitable for long distances.

The most frisky horse record holders are thoroughbred riding

The gallop is divided into two types: a slow gallop (here the indicators can be on average no more than 20 km per hour) and a fast gallop (possible results are up to 65 km per hour and even more).

An interesting fact is that the foot with which the horse starts in a given gait is important for the rider. This fact is important when turning at a distance. If the horse started to gallop with right foot, then it will be easier for him to turn to the right, and vice versa - the beginning of the gait from the left foot makes it easier to turn to the left.

Speed record holders

Perhaps the fastest horse in the world is a stallion named Beach Rekit. He set a speed record that no horse has been able to beat to this day. Back in 1954, a purebred handsome man overcame 409 m, reaching a speed of up to 69.6 km per hour.

In 1993, the eminent champion horse named Onion Roll could only repeat this striking record. Another high score belongs to a champion horse named Siglevi Slave. His record is 63.9 km per hour at a distance of 804 m. But the stallion was without a rider, which greatly facilitated his task.

You can not ignore the result of the famous horse John Henry, who rode long distance(2.4 km) at a gallop, while developing a speed of 60.7 km per hour. The rider driving the favorite weighed 57 kg - this important fact doubles the horse's record, making him the champion record holder in terms of endurance.

All described horses are one of the brightest representatives of the fastest breed of thoroughbred riding horses. But even they need proper care and regular training to achieve high performance and record speed results.

Horses are fairly fast animals. Nature is so arranged that they flee from the teeth and paws of a predator. However, the ability to run fast has attracted man since time immemorial. Back in the days ancient world people arranged horse races, chariot races, chose the most frisky horses. What is the fastest and most frisky horse in the world today? Let's find out about it right now.

The most frisky riding horses

When it comes to what is the fastest horse in the world, you can immediately say that this is a representative of the breed. Moreover, this breed is entirely the result of a very competent and careful selection of horse breeders. Today, looking at these horses, we can say with confidence that their English title"bred to perfection" or "ideal breed" is completely true.

Specially bred for high-spirited running, this horse has a unique build. And this applies to both its appearance and the characteristics of the body. With a very muscular, strong body, high, strong legs with well-formed joints, these horses also have the largest heart and lungs in the horse world. If the rest of the horses while running, the pulse fluctuates around 60 beats per minute, then for the English horse it is 140 beats per minute.

Long strong legs help horses to overcome very quickly short distances- their playfulness reaches 60 km per hour, and sometimes even higher.

All the features of this breed are created and designed for a very frisky gallop - a career that horses run at the races. The English Thoroughbred was originally bred as a fast cross-country horse, mainly for horse hunting, which is still very popular in England today. Today, Thoroughbreds are used primarily for racing, but also in breeding to breed and improve others. Famous record holders

We already know that the most frisky horse is a Thoroughbred English breed, but who exactly. For many years now, the undisputed and so far the only record holder is a horse named Beach Rekit. In 1945, in Mexico City, he set an absolute record by running a distance at a speed of 69.6 km per hour. In 1993, a stallion named Oneil Roll only managed to reach this indicator, but no one managed to surpass it.

Beach Racket with a jockey

However, it is worth noting that this indicator is average, since it is only possible to track the average speed over the entire distance of the hippodrome. It is also worth considering that horses show different agility with and without a rider, as well as at what distance. At longer distances, of course, the speed varies more and the average will be lower, although the horse itself could run faster. So, for example, the horse John Henry overcame a long distance of 2.4 km at a speed of 60.7 km per hour in 1977. This is one of the most famous racehorses in the world.

As for the official speed record for a horse without a rider, it was set by the stallion Siglevi Slave with a result of 69.3 km per hour. He ran about 802 meters in 41.8 seconds. What was his maximum speed, it is difficult to say, so it was possible to calculate only the average.

Sorry, there are currently no surveys available.

The most frisky trotters

People who are fond of horse racing know that at the hippodrome during the test of trotters, the speed of these horses is sometimes not inferior to the speed of riding horses. This is especially true of the American and Russian trotter. These breeds were specially bred for fast trotting. Their natural abilities allow them to maintain a high running speed for a long time. This can be seen very clearly in the following video from Horses & People.

Horses champions

American and Russian trotters are capable of trotting at speeds of over 50 km per hour, which is significantly higher than that of an ordinary riding horse. The record holder of its kind is a horse named Pain Chip, who ran 1600 meters in 1.51 minutes. Among the mares at the same distance showed an American trotter named Bit the Wheel, who ran in 1.52 minutes. If you look at these indicators, it turns out that Pine Chip ran with average speed 52 km per hour.
