World Championships in summer biathlon results.

When compiling the calendar, the key word remains with the organizers live broadcast and broadcast TV channels. Of course, the interests of broadcasters should coincide with the sports component. Natural conditions are also important - at almost all stages of the World Cup, unlike in Tyumen, there is no lighting in the stadiums, and therefore the organizers have to hold races in the morning or afternoon. In North America, the World Cup races will start very early, so the IBU expects severe cold. Therefore, men across the ocean will be the first to take to the track. The search for consensus on the start time of the 2019 World Cup in Östersund turned out to be especially intense. Sweden has a very short daylight hours, so each TV company, anticipating tasty TV ratings, tried to push through the teleslot that was most pleasant for their country. Biathlon season 2018/2019. On the last weekend of August, the main biathlon tournament of the summer, the World Championship, will be held in the Czech Republic. The party there is going to be decent, even the leaders of their national teams will come. And the leader of the Russian national team will also be, but this is not Shipulin.

The IBU is confident that the summer biathlon is the future, but so far it still looks more like a miserable semblance of winter biathlon. Or no longer?

Who, where, when

The world championship in summer biathlon will be held in Nove Mesto from 24 to 26 August. Athletes will run all three races on roller skis - sprint, pursuit and mixed relay. Until 2006, short crosses were run at the Summer World Cup, but now athletes cover distances identical to those at the World Cup. The organizers give the message that summer biathlon can be as mesmerizing as winter biathlon. Maybe even more attractive, and in general this is the sport of the future.

So far it doesn't turn out great.

One of the obvious reasons for this is that the organizers fail to gather a truly stellar cast of participants. The most serious attitude to the summer World Cup is in the countries of the CIS and Eastern Europe, but even there the compositions are far from optimal. Here, for example, Russia. There is Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht, who must run all three races in the tournament. She is definitely the leader of the team. There is Yuri Shopin, Pyotr Pashchenko, Nikita Porshnev, but this is rather the second echelon of the men's team. Here, in general, that's all.

Of course, it will be interesting to watch the competitions of juniors and juniors, but such a poster will not attract a mass audience. This is more for us hardcore biathlon fans.

What about Shipulin?

The day before, having celebrated his 31st birthday, he continues to torment fans with uncertainty. The SBR understands that Shipulin is the only one in our country and they give him as much time as he needs. But Vladimir Drachev and the company, apparently, have not yet found final points of contact with Anton. One way or another, we will not see Shipulin in Nove Mesto.

But he has a wealth of experience playing at the summer world championships.

Shipulin won the mixed relay tournament three times. The last time it was last year in Tchaikovsky together with Ulyana Kaisheva, Svetlana Sleptsova and Alexei Volkov. We will not see any of them in the Czech Republic. The other two victories came in 2011 and 2012. In personal races at the summer World Championships, Anton has silver in 2017 and bronze in 2012. It is noteworthy that both tournaments were held in Russia. It was from 2011-2012 that progress began in Shipulin's career, which soon made him one of the three best biathletes in the world. It is quite possible that it was participation in the summer World Championships that played a positive role in this.

Were there any other stars at the Summer Worlds?

Undoubtedly. Ole Einar Bjoerndalen won silver and bronze in the sprint back in 1996 and 1997. In 2004, Zdenek Vitek won. In the rollerskiing era, Maxim Chudov, who is a multiple champion in summer biathlon, often lit up in the summer. Among other victors, we note Simon Fourcade, Michael Rösch, Dmitry Yaroshenko, Lukas Hofer, Ondrej Moravec, Vladimir Iliev, Martin Otchenash, Andrey Rastorguev.

Where are Martin Fourcade, the Boe brothers, Emil-Hegle Svendsen? Obviously top stars men's biathlon prefer a different winterization plan.

For women, the situation is similar. To put it mildly, not all the main actors of the World Cup are ready to spend their energy and emotions on the summer world championships. Although Magdalena Neuner did not disdain summer starts and won the World Cup in Oberhof in 2009. Kaisa Mäkäräinen, Dorothea Wierer, Julia Jima, Anna Frolina also successfully performed at the Summer World Championships.

It would also be great to see Gabriela Koukalova at the World Championships, but the story of her downtime continues to be mysterious.

Pursuit (juniors).

Vyacheslav Maleev won gold in the pursuit.

Ukrainian Bogdan Cymbal became the second, having started from the 7th place. Viteslav Hornig from the Czech Republic is third.

Vyacheslav Maleev spoke about his victory: “I am happy! From next season I will start among men. Today was my last start in juniors. I am glad that it ended with such success that I took a medal at such a level. Satisfied that he was still able to cope with the shooting. He made two blunders. They are generally good for me. One miss on the counter - did not cope with emotions. Pulled when fired, did not finish a little. And lying down, maybe he wanted to hit so badly that he didn’t control everything.

At the last shooting, I saw that the Czech began to quickly shoot two shots. We came together and began to prepare. And he had already fired the first shots, and I was just starting to aim. On his second shot, you could hear that he was smearing. Then he stopped. By the third shot, we were already equal in speed. Then I worked at my own pace, and he stood up - he understood that he had smeared a lot. And I got the shot.

The track here is quite difficult, working, the pulse is high everywhere. There are slopes, but you can’t rest much on them, they are small.”

Pursuit (juniors).

Valeria Vasnetsova is the winner of the world championship in summer biathlon in the pursuit race.

Camila Zhuk from Poland is second, Czech athlete Marketa Davidova is third. Russian Anastasia Khaliullina moved from 16th place to fifth.

Valeria Vasnetsova shared her impressions of her victory: “Today is the third competitive day. I can't say that I feel worse. I felt normal from a distance. I managed to cope with the first rack, and on the second I associate two misses with psychology. It's still a contact race. I was lucky that my opponents also made mistakes. Thanks to that, I managed to win today.”

According to SBR.

The hosts of the tournament, the Czech team, won silver, and the Polish team closed the top three.

On August 25, on the second day of the competition, sprint races among juniors and adults started.

In second place is a Polish athlete Monika Hoynisch, a biathlete from Kazakhstan won the bronze Galina Vishnevskaya. Best result among Russian athletes showed Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht, finishing in ninth place.

Nikita Porshnev, Yuri Shopin, Alexander Babchin And Petr Pashchenko ranked fourteenth, twenty-third, twenty-seventh and thirty-first, respectively.

August 24 in the Czech Republic, Nove Mesto successfully started Summer Championship biathlon world. The first stage of the competition was mixed relay races among juniors and adults. The first among juniors finished with a clear, more than a minute advantage, the Czech athletes. Silver was won by the Poles, the bronze medalists were the junior four from Slovenia. The Russian junior team, which included Anna Grigorieva, Valeria Vasnetsova, ...

By meldonium. 27 year old debutante. All of them are new faces in the Russian team.

Who are all these people, thousands of fans of the Russian biathlon team will ask in puzzlement, turning on the broadcasts of the first stage of the World Cup. - Why are they in the form of our team?

And they will be right. Ilchenko, Latypov, Vasilyeva, Pavlova - who is it? Four real debutants at once, who have never played for the Russian team at the World Cup - this is an unprecedented rejuvenation Russian composition. Although, well, as a rejuvenation ... Not really.

Eduard Latypov, 24 years old

Latypov was born in the Belarusian city of Grodno, but in early age moved to the Samara region, where he began to seriously engage in skiing. Then there was a transfer to Bashkortostan and the first steps in biathlon. His main this moment successes are associated with victories at the World Junior Championships, which, ironically, took place in his native Belarus.

And the most unpleasant story is connected with accusations of using meldonium, because of which Eduard was suspended from participation in the competition. Nevertheless, it did not come to a long disqualification. WADA acquitted the athlete, considering the concentration of the substance to be acceptable. Among other things, Latypov is an ensign in the Russian army and won the Military World Games in Sochi.

Kristina Ilchenko, 25 years old One of the prettiest biathletes in the world. This is not surprising, because she comes from the city of Labytnangi. This place in the north of Russia is home to such beauties as Albina Akhatova and Anna Bulygina-Frolina. You can’t leave on beauty alone in sports, but Christina has always been distinguished by her high speed of movement on the ski track, which for the Russian women's team in last years quite atypical. However, biathlon is not only about speed, and shooting regularly let the athlete down. Yes, she let her down so much that in Russia they completely stopped believing in her. Therefore, in 2015, Ilchenko gladly agreed to play for Belarus, but even there the results turned out to be unimportant. When it became clear that the athlete's career was completely ruined, Christina returned to Russia and had a brilliant qualifying starts in Kontiolahti. It is difficult to say what she will show at the World Cup, but it will be nice to watch her anyway.

Margarita Vasilyeva, 27 At 27, Gabriela Koukalova had her last World Cup race. At least for now. And Magdalena Neuner by this age had completely completed professional career. Against this background, it seems that Margarita Vasilyeva was late with her debut on highest level. But it's all relative. Moreover, in modern realities, the coaches of the Russian women's team should not pay attention to such trifles as age. If a person is ready, he runs.

Judging by the qualifying races in Kontiolahti, Vasilyeva is ready perfectly. I am glad that Margarita went well with both distances with her feet. Of course, while this is not enough to fight the top biathlon stars, but not all at once. It is also interesting that Vasilyeva suffers from chronic asthma, however therapeutic exclusion she has not been able to complete it yet.

Evgeniya Pavlova, 25 women's biathlon. According to rumors, Pavlova was offered to play for the Kazakhstan national team, referring to her relationship with local biathlete Maxim Brown, but the offer was politely declined. Pavlova at the national selection in Finland lost only to the experienced Irina Starykh. Will she be able to become the second number of the Russian team already at the first stage of the World Cup? God bless them, with numbers. Now any points will be for happiness.

Valeria Vasnetsova, 21 The only one on this list who cannot be called a full-fledged debutante in the Russian team. The fact is that on account of Vasnetsova there is already participation in the sprint race in Holmenkollen as part of the World Cup, where she took 79th place. But we all understand that this is a formality. In fact, the real debut in the Cuba of the world for a young athlete will be in Pokljuka. Valeria's main victory at the moment is the pursuit race at the 2017 Junior World Championships, where she broke from 24th place to first. The phenomenal comeback became, without exaggeration, one of the most memorable episodes in Russian biathlon in recent years.

And we have been missing phenomena and comebacks lately.
