How to make a do-it-yourself bait for a perch. Instructions for making a homemade vent

Undoubtedly, every angler knows what winter zherlitsa, and if he does not know, it is only because he did not ask this question. But sooner or later, almost every lover winter fishing there is a desire to try catching on zherlitsy most. It is no secret that not only the catch, but also the pleasure of fishing itself depends on the quality and ease of use of the vent. Many anglers already know how make your own bait for pike, but, and those who do not know how to do them, we will now teach.

A little about the handmade zherlitsa

With the onset of cold weather, anglers begin to slowly prepare their winter gear for the upcoming fishing season. And among these tackles are often found zherlitsy - perhaps one of the most effective gear for catching winter pike. Nowadays, of course, there are no problems with the presence of vents in the store, and their prices are not so great. But many anglers prefer to make vents on their own, someone just wants to do something for themselves, and for someone the process of making and catching on self-made fishing gear gives more pleasure than catching on the purchased ones. It is also not uncommon for store fishing tackle to be of poor quality and can fail at the most inopportune moment. And in self-made tackle, you can be completely sure, unless of course you approach the manufacturing process responsibly in advance. And a do-it-yourself zherlitsa turns out to be about half the price of a purchased one, but when buying 1-2 girders, this amount will not be noticeable, and if you make a dozen girders, the difference will be decent, and this difference can be spent on other fishing tackle.

The process of self-manufacturing winter zherlitsy

For a better view of the image, click on it to enlarge it.

First of all, we need to cut planks for our future girders. We immediately make as many blanks as we plan to make zherlits. You can cut it out of plywood, but over time it begins to exfoliate, so it is not advisable to use it.

Acquire required amount coils for our vents. It’s not worth chasing expensive ones, we take the cheapest reels, it is advisable to take reels with a ratchet, but they will also work without it.

We drill two holes in the mounting base of the coil, as shown in the figure. The diameter of the holes is not large, about 4-5 mm.

The flag can be bought ready-made in the store, or you can make it yourself. I made flags from a spring that tightens the car's seat belts. It can be made from OBC steel wire with a diameter of 0.4 mm.

In order to attach the coil to the board, we use wood screws. 3x12 self-tapping screws are used here, of course others can be used, it’s just that these came to hand first.

The flag is best fixed with clamps for wiring 0.5 mm. This will allow you to easily remove the box for ease of transport. If you do not want to spend money on clamps, you can cut out small metal plates.

Next, we take a fishing line with a diameter of 0.35-0.4 mm, I think 15 meters will be enough, although it depends on the depth of the reservoir where we are going to fish. The load is 5-10 grams, it can be more, it also depends on the conditions of fishing (current), and the load lock to adjust the free play. Tee No. 5-6, and a leash with a carabiner and an American-type clasp.

We collect all parts of the equipment together, I think there should not be any difficulties. It should turn out like in the picture.

In the beginning, we wrote about the ratchet reel. its plus is that it will very well tighten the hook to the plank, and it will not cling to anything during transportation. Without a ratchet, you can slightly press the hook into the plank.

Our homemade vent for pike fishing in winter is ready. The entire manufacturing process takes about 15 minutes.

Well, this is actually a zherlitsa in working order. We hook the flag to the handle of the reel. When biting, the coil rotates and the flag is released, informing us about the bite.

P.S. There are many variations of fishing rods. There are plenty of instructions on the internet about how to how to make a do-it-yourself pike bait, but the option presented here is the most successful. There are options for making girders from old vinyl records, but such girders roll very nicely on ice in windy weather. There are very simple girders on a peg, they take up much less space, but their use requires snow on ice for fixation. In stores, vents are sold with a flag fixed on the reel itself, once you try to fish on them, you can always discourage the desire to catch on vents in the future.

When writing the article, materials from the site were used: rubaki.com.ua

Now the season of winter fishing has come. And for lovers of fishing predatory fish, today I will show you my idea on how to make a winter vent for pike. As you know, the zherlitsa is the most productive way of fishing in early winter, including the dead of winter. Such a vent will cost you a penny, and with its qualities it will not be inferior to the store.

Necessary materials:
- Plywood 5 mm.
- Polypropylene pipe
- Fishing reel
- Roulette
- Red Cloth
- Self-tapping screws
- bar

Step 1: First of all, we need to cut (with an electric jigsaw) a circle of plywood with a diameter of 200 mm. Then we drill a hole in it exactly in the center, with a diameter of 20 mm. When we have done everything, we need to clean the workpiece well with sandpaper so that the fishing line is not damaged during fishing.

Step 2: Next, take a small bar measuring 40x40 mm. and make three holes in it. One in the center with a diameter of 20 mm. (for the tube), and two holes on the sides (for self-tapping screws). And we fasten our workpiece as shown in the photo.

Step 4: Then we cut a piece 25-30 cm long from a metal ruler. At one end we make a series of small holes, this is necessary in order to secure the fabric with threads so that it does not fall off a piece of the ruler. And to this end we sew a small piece of red fabric (This will be a flag).

We equip our vents, and you can go fishing! To all fishermen - NO TAIL, NO SCALES.

The article describes the types of vents used in winter fishing. Special attention devoted to catching pike on the vents, the selection of baits, gear. Among the variety of types of fishing, live bait fishing occupies a special place.

An ancient way of fishing

Its classic and most fascinating subspecies is fishing on vents in winter. Natural bait is preferable to spinners and other gear. She is more likely to be swallowed:

  1. Burbot.
  2. Pike.
  3. Perch.
  4. Zander.

Therefore, ice fishing with it is most effective. Zherlitsa - tackle for amateur fishing. Anglers often make their own. The products use cheap structural elements.

They take into account the personal preferences of the owner, the characteristics of water bodies and even the behavior of fish in them during different seasonal periods. On the first ice, when predators begin to eat, not the highest reliability of vents is compensated by their large number.

Types of girders

There are many designs of girders. At self-manufacturing they take original shapes and sizes. But structurally, all models are divided into two main types:

  • Zherlitsy on the platform. They consist of a wide base, a metal spring with a flag and a coil on a bracket. The advantages of tackle include the fact that the platform is located on the hole, covering it from the light. With a small depth of the reservoir, this circumstance is of particular importance.
  • The line runs through the middle of the base directly below the spool. A hole of small diameter, sufficient to pass the hook and sinker. In moderately frosty weather, the platform slows down the freezing of the hole.

Along its edges, it is easily removed with improvised means. The line is not in danger of being damaged. In severe frosts, a closed hole freezes faster. To remove ice, you will often have to dismantle the entire structure.

The size of the platform is selected taking into account the need for complete coverage of the hole. With a square base, it is enough that its side is equal to the diameter of the ice drill. Then the area of the hole will be completely described by the platform.

Self-made girders allows you to use heavy plywood or board for the platform. They are impregnated with a moisture-proof composition (linseed oil, bituminous mastic). This design is resistant to strong winds. Factory products are made of thin and light plastic.

Additional measures are required to keep them above the hole. Metal products are now practically not used. In the cold, working with them is not very comfortable. The reel for tackle is selected as large as possible. This will prevent the line from twisting. If necessary, the hole for the sleeve is bored or ground.

The use of an excessively elastic spring should be avoided. When a predator captures the bait, it allows “shooting”, leading to a breakdown of the fish or an overlap of the fishing line through the bracket. The soft spring reacts to the movement of the bait, disorienting the angler.

The optimal options are selected empirically.

The installation of the girders on the platform is carried out taking into account the values of the air temperature. At -20, the ice crushed hole is framed in the form of an even ring-shaped hill, on which the platform is placed.

In warmer weather, the snow around the hole is cleared. The base is installed on a flat frozen surface without water. All measures are provided in order to minimize the ice covering of the hole and the freezing of the tackle.

A rack-mounted chute is a simple and common tackle design. Includes stand, bracket with reel and steel strip with flag. The device is lightweight and easy to use.

When deciding how to make a vent with your own hands, you should give preference to wooden racks. The most practical hardwood species (beech, oak). Raw products are further processed. It is covered with waterproof agents.

Metal plates are made from steel sheets. Usually a high quality alloy is used. It is strong, elastic, not subject to corrosion. Signal elements are standard.

Coils are machined from wood, polymer products or foam. Styrofoam products are easy to manufacture, it is convenient to string hooks on them for easier transportation.

But they are not durable. They break down quickly. Polymer coils are fragile. Wooden ones are the most practical, but more difficult to manufacture and process.

Installing the vent is not difficult. The rack is mounted at an angle in a crumble hill. The slope is required to install the fishing line in the center of the hole.
The load is selected in such a way that the fishing line is completely straightened without the formation of rings.

The more elastic and thinner the fishing line, the less load for its tension. It is desirable to select sinkers with minimum weight values. In this case, the behavior of live bait fish will be close to natural. The number of bites will increase. The length of the leash usually does not exceed 40 cm.

It should be borne in mind that when playing the fish, the fishing line will rub against the edges of the hole. Thin tackle will quickly become unusable. Low-quality monofilament will withstand no more than 5-6 bites. High-grade - 15-20. Rigid fishing line (up to 1 mm) is used for catching pike perch on vents in winter.

Features of fishing on zherlitsy

When it comes to angling predators in winter period, then, first of all, it means fishing on vents. Fishing is productive, exciting, emotional. The features of the reservoir in which predatory fish live (depth, dominant fish species, current strength) are taken into account. Small fish or fry are desirable from among the common fish in the area.

Fishing for pike in winter on zherlitsy has its own specifics

In small reservoirs, the predator thoroughly eats up fish stocks and rushes to the bait as soon as it enters its field of vision. In the presence of several gears, catching pike on vents is productive.

On large lakes and rivers, pike bite with caution. A defect in tackle (a thick, noticeable fishing line or a massive sinker) will scare her away. In winter, the pike prepares for spawning. Barren (or without milk) fish are rare. The predator prefers narrow-shaped bait (bleak, gudgeon).

Live bait when fishing on zherlitsy planted in different ways. One of the best is the establishment of a hook under the dorsal fin. With this option, small fish are mobile, their behavior is natural. The activity of the bait increases the chances of being seen by a predator.

An important point - the spring with the flag must be adjusted in such a way as not to give false triggering from the movements of the nozzle. Disadvantages when catching pike in winter are associated with improper deepening of gear. Some anglers are convinced that pike is a bottom fish.

Therefore, the bait must be at the bottom water basin. In reality, the predator attacks the prey in the middle layers. The main line should be lowered into half the water. A long leash allows the live bait to move in different directions.

When fishing on vents, single, double and triple hooks are used. The tees are too heavy for live bait fish. Single - allow disruptions of fish. Double hooks are the most used. They are reliable and comfortable.

The use of vents for pike in winter brings a catch during the entire period of freezing. There are fewer and fewer places on water bodies where you can catch pike under almost every bush. Therefore, knowledge of the features of the bottom topography, impeccable equipment and the ability of the angler to seduce the fish come to the fore. The bell rig is simple only at first glance. There is a certain specificity, a number of features and nuances, the observance of which is necessary for successful fishing in this way.

Pike in winter

Winter bait fishing for pike is not a passive activity at all. The fisherman needs to find or catch a live bait, then decide on a reservoir and a place. On the pond, you also need to find a toothy one. Winter migrations of fry, changes in the oxygen regime in the water and the weather can force the predator to leave their homes. Read more about the winter behavior of the toothy robber -.

Winter girders they bring a bite to a pike even in the dead of winter, when it is difficult to catch a toothy one on an artificial bait. Live fish are traditionally considered the best bait for this predator. Winter bait fishing takes place according to a certain strategy, the choice of a place and the tactics of finding fish. Features of catching a toothy robber with flags, the process of installing winter vents and the nuances are discussed in this article:

Here we will analyze in detail the arrangement of vents for pike in winter, design options for gear, equipment features depending on various fishing conditions.

The device of girders (flags, stakes, supplies) for pike

What does a pike bait look like in winter? There are many options for the execution of tackle, and the equipment is the same. The design of the winter vent for pike should provide a number of functions:

  1. Hold the snap of a set length in the hole so that when a pike bites, the line is easily released and does not prevent the predator from unwinding it from the reel. At the same time, the live bait, when moving in the water, should not be able to pull out the fishing line and unwind.
  2. Fisherman's bite alarm.
  3. The stable position of all tackle over the hole on the ice in various weather conditions.
  4. Overall ease of use, deployment and transport.

Transparent leashes made of thick fluorocarbon

Homemade leash made from leash material or thick fluorocarbon:

We tie a loop with a figure eight and put a silicone cambric on it

We fix in a swivel a loop in a loop

The same - from the side of the hook

For fishing in shallow or current

Sometimes the situation requires setting pike hooks in winter near the shore, where the water layer under the ice does not exceed half a meter. In principle, in such conditions, ordinary snaps are used, but for greater mobility of the live bait, it is better to remove the weights. Here, accurate depth measurement is more important. In the working position, the live bait must be located just in this layer of ice water, otherwise the toothy one simply will not find the fish.

When fishing in the current, the flag for pike turns into a winter bottom. To hold the live bait in place, a heavy deaf weight is attached to the end of the main line (so that it does not blow away with the current), and the leash is mounted as a branch above.

For fishing in snags and reeds

Equipment zherlitsy for pike in winter for fishing in snags requires more durable, allowing you to drag "on a fool". An additional tee can be included in the installation scheme by passing a leash through its ring. Get an additional sliding hook. In this case, the lower double is wound under the gills into the mouth, and the upper tee clings to the back.

It is important to quickly hook the pike by the hooks so that the predator does not have time to unwind the tackle and bring it into snags or reeds. Accordingly, the free gathering of the fishing line is limited to 1-1.5 meters, after winding which must be immediately cut. Conventional rigs with a long stroke are recommended to be placed 5-7 meters from the snags, while deaf rigs can be placed in the very wilds or narrow reed windows. The percentage of gatherings in the case of passive biting in such conditions is higher, but the probability of catching a toothy one is higher.

Planting live bait

Flags for pike in winter bring a good catch if the main condition is met: you should not blame the weather or the place, you need to look for fish or change the equipment with the bait. In any weather, a stubborn angler will find his catch.

Enthusiastic fishermen, even in the winter cold, do not give up their favorite hobby. Ice fishing in our country it is no less common than summer, and craftsmen have come up with many devices that can be used to fish out fish from under thick ice. In winter, predators are active, especially pike, so actual fishing is for live bait. Some prefer to catch actively - with a mormyshka, others calmly - with girders. We will talk about the latter method today.

What is a zherlitsa

Live bait fishing is a classic of fishing. No spinners and wobblers can be compared with the course of a natural fish, from which the pike and perch "drool". If you ask fishermen what a vent is, most will say that this is a tackle exclusively for catching pike in winter fishing.

And they are wrong. Among the 18 known designs of vents, at least 5 types are designed for catching predatory fish in open water. They catch not only pike, but also pike perch, perch, burbot.

The simplest type - zherlitsa on rubber shock absorber. Its design bears little resemblance to the winter version: a fishing line with a rubber leash is attached to the pole.

But today we will focus on winter fishing and talk about the classic vents, which are divided into two types: on the platform and on the rack.

The design of this tackle was invented in Russia and is impossibly simple. Like everything simple, it is ingenious, so the zherlitsa has not undergone any special changes over the centuries.

Operating principle

A weakly sailing object is tied to a strong and fixed on the shore or on the ice pole (this can be a plank, a slingshot, a piece of hose). A vein is attached to it and passed through the slot into the water. A movable load is installed on the vein, which consists of a carabiner (most often it is a swivel), a metal leash with a braid and a combination of hooks: a tackle, a double or a tee.

When the pike grabs the live bait, the line easily comes out of the slot, and the tackle begins to unwind on the reel (or other device). The length of the fishing line should be such that the fish can swallow the live bait and cut itself on the hook. The pike is exhausting itself, trying to free itself, and the fisherman's job is to fish out the catch.

Gear for winter fishing

The device of the girders is as follows:

  • Ice stand. It can be a platform or a rack (about their pros and cons - a little later).
  • Fishing line. In color, it should correspond to the shade of water, in length it should be 8-10 meters more than the depth at the place of fishing. The thickness of the vein is within 0.35-0.45 mm. Special requirements are placed on frost resistance, strength and elasticity of the fishing line, but it should not stretch.
  • Coil. It should be large enough - the inner diameter is not less than 8 cm. The optimal size is 12-15 cm. The fact is that on thin bobbins the vein twists into a spiral, and then sags in the cold. And when the pike takes the bait, the line unwinds, but the reel stays in place. This means that the signal flag will not work, and the fisherman will miss the bite. The sides should protrude 1.5 cm above the level of the coiled fishing line, otherwise it will overlap the drum. You can make a reel from wood, but it will be heavy - it is best to use dense foam. The line should be wound on the reel as tightly as possible.

Experienced fishermen advise installing a thick rubber leash at the junction of the reel and fishing line - this will allow the structure to cushion and prevent breakage.

Types of girders

As already mentioned, winter girders come in two types of installation: on a platform and on a rack. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.

On the platform

A platform is a base measuring 25x15 or 25x25 cm. It can be round, made of wood or plastic. It is installed directly on the hole.

The advantages of this design:

  • the hole is shaded - this does not cause concern for the fish;
  • the platform, albeit slightly, but protects the hole from freezing - the fishing line does not freeze and unwinds freely.

The disadvantages of this design are much more:

  • large dimensions of the structure. It is rather problematic to carry several such girders;
  • loose coil mount in the platform. Ready-made store vents are especially guilty of this - after purchase, you must definitely check and refine them so that you do not lose tackle while fishing;
  • the use of platform girders on sunny days is fraught with the fact that the ice melts under them, and in the evening it freezes again, and the platform freezes tightly. It is very difficult to remove it without damage - you have to heat the ice around the perimeter of the hole;
  • in a snowfall, low vents are covered with snow, in order not to lose them, signal poles must first be installed;
  • at temperatures below minus 10, the advantage of not freezing the hole is negated, and the fishing line still freezes under the platform.

On the counter

This type of girders has more advantages:

  • tackle is convenient in transportation;
  • the coil is tightly fixed on a stand made of metal or wood, which excludes its separation;

By the way, wooden racks are preferable, since grabbing a metal rod in severe frost, you can stick to it well.

  • Sufficient post height makes signal flags highly visible even from a long distance.

Rack girders also have their drawbacks:

  • you need to carry a gimlet with you - to drill a hole where the rack will be installed;
  • the fishing line freezes into the ice;
  • the line often freezes to the reel, and the latter does not scroll. This resistance frightens the pike, and she throws the live bait without swallowing it.

How to assemble homemade tackle for pike

A successful model of a zherlitsa is the main component of success in fishing. It depends 90% on a properly selected and executed design whether fishing will be a joy or turn into an unattractive and fruitless job of unwinding, unraveling and collecting vents after a bad day.

It is easy to assemble a homemade vent. There are several important points to take into account:

Video: How to make tackle with your own hands

Preparing for fishing

First of all, you need to correctly place the vent on the ice. To do this, you need to drill a hole and set up tackle. It is optimal to do this together and it is still dark, so that at sunrise you do not stomp on the ice in vain and not frighten the fish. Holes should be placed in a straight line in 2-4 rows, with a distance between them of 8-10 meters. Experienced fishermen advise arranging holes from shallow water to depth. And let there be fewer vents, but during the day they must be moved from places where there are no bites to catchy places.

An important point: the right live bait. It must be really alive - a sleepy fry will not interest even a very hungry pike.

It is desirable that the live bait be from the same reservoir where fishing takes place. The predator recognizes the "alien" fish by smell and will not peck. Therefore, with purchased crucian carp, you can “fly through” with a catch.

The correct live bait attachment in the photo

In winter, the best live bait - perches. They are tenacious, nimble and do not arouse suspicion with their activity. And perches do not wrap the fishing line in knots. You can also use roach, minnows, ruffs, dace. At least 1-2 times a day, the live bait must be raised above the water and allowed to swallow air, otherwise it will fall asleep.

Fishing secrets from experienced fishermen

To prevent freezing of the fishing line on the rack vent, experienced fishermen use the following tactics: after installing the tackle, they allow the hole to be covered with a thin layer of ice, and then move the fishing line in one direction, forming a groove for its free movement. Then, a layer of light snow (not knocked down) is poured directly over the ice crust, flush with the ice edge. This will darken the hole, the groove will not freeze further, and the fishing line will move freely.

So that the wet fishing line does not freeze in the reel, it is advised to moisten your fingers with refined vegetable oil before going fishing and touch the twisted fishing line a couple of times, as if lubricating it. This should be done only at home, in a warm room.

What to do if the coil unwinds, but there is no hooking? You just need to slightly slow down its course with a slight movement and let it move on.

In no case should you do the cutting yourself if the fishing line jumps to the sides and does not unwind. Most often this happens when the hook is caught in the teeth, but not fixed in the bone tissue of the pike. Then the fish stands still and shakes its head with its mouth open, and can easily get rid of the hook if you pull hard on the line. It is best to let things take their course - the pike will catch itself.

If the live bait is swallowed, then the pike keeps its mouth closed, but it will violently resist, then allowing it to be raised to the hole, then going to the depth. You should always have a hook with you - they can hook and extract fish.

Advice! 1.5 meters from the main hole, make another hole and throw the tackle again. A sure sign - the hole will be catchy.

If the signaling device showed a bite, but the fishing line does not unwind, this means that the live bait is in the mouth, but not hooked or swallowed. You can’t pull the line - often the pike just releases the live bait. Such a trick can help: you need to stamp your foot on the ice at the hole several times and just wait. As a rule, the pike immediately swallows the bait, and the fishing line abruptly goes into the water. If this does not happen - do not rush. The predator can stretch the pleasure and savor the fish in the mouth for 10 minutes.

Let's finish our story with one more true folk sign: if from the very beginning something went wrong - the girders got mixed up, the hook broke, the live bait fell on the ice, the fisherman fell, then you can immediately wind up the tackle and go home to your wife, warm up under the covers. On this day, the catch will not be for sure, and trouble alone, as you know, does not go.

Excellent pike and perch

With the right approach, bait fishing for pike can be an effective and exciting form of winter fishing. No wonder they say that only the operation will be successful, which is well prepared - half the success is laid at home.
