"great team European experience helped." bate did what he had to

BATE Secretary General and Pressball columnist Andrei Vashkevich shared his opinion on the failed transfer to the six-time Borisov club the best football player Belarus Alexander Hleb, who after the Europa League group stage draw but was refused.

- Let's be honest. For me, Dirk Kuyt set the benchmark for a career point last year. In his last match in professional football, he scored three times for Feyenoord at De Kuyp - for the club that he considered to be the main one in his career, and at the stadium that he considered to be the main one in his career - and brought Rotterdam the first Dutch title in 18 years.

For the sake of this beautiful point, Kuyt worked a lot. He returned to Rotterdam in advance, having not had the best season in 2015/16 (21 points behind PSV and 19 behind Ajax). And I knew that in the next everything would be decided. Either he leaves as a superhero, or he just leaves. Nobody knew the future. Feyenoord have not been champions for a long time, and nothing really hinted at what would happen now.

In the 2016/17 season, Kuyt played unevenly, lost his place in the line-up, went out on the right, then “under the strikers”, but in the end, together with a young, unpredictable team, he endured the long-awaited title.

Beautiful stories are written in this way - honestly, in the "no oversave" mode. No guarantees of success and no tactical expectations.

Some are now trying to tell us that there could also be a “beautiful story” with Sasha Gleb’s farewell, sign him back to BATE for the European Cup autumn.

But let's be honest: the story would be beautiful if this winter Sasha firmly decided to finish at BATE, returned to Borisov completely, for the farewell season, scored, made his way into the group - in a word, he took risks, played without any guarantees for parting in London . As Kuyt had no guarantees for a hat-trick in the last match of his career.

But with us it's different.

Sasha has not played since May 1st. Had quite a good time. As for the "beautiful end of a career" was nothing to hear. And suddenly they pull out a piece of paper from the ball - and away we go.

I’m wondering: would all these moaning about “ beautiful story”, if Viktoria from Pilsen had got from the first basket of BATE? Or Villarreal? Or Salzburg? And would Gleb be eager to play with these unconditionally respected clubs with the same force?

And if not, then how does he then differ from those who are commonly called glors, and who are now trying to tell everyone as convincingly as possible who they are for since childhood?

To ritually wave to the Emirates stands, hug Wenger in full view of the cameras, give an interview to uefa.com about how dream comes true, be ready to “play for free” and go out for fifteen minutes – is that what you call beauty?

Let's be honest: saying goodbye, waving to these stands, hugging this Wenger and giving these interviews, Sasha Gleb could have been in a completely different status. But once he made a different decision. Trying now to swing and cuddle during the years he spent away from London is doomed to plaything.

Beautiful stories are written on the fields, including training fields, and not by calling friends-bosses after a successful draw. In an attempt to enter the game from the last save and play perfect match beauty is hardly to be found.

Beauty is Kuyt. But our story is about something else.

Team History

BATE is an abbreviation for the Borisov Plant of Auto Tractor Electrical Equipment. It was under him that the club of the same name was created in 1973. Having managed to get out of the second division to the top league of the republican championship in just a year, BATE managed to become the champion of the BSSR on the first attempt, winning fifteen matches out of eighteen in the season.

The Borisov club quickly became one of the strongest clubs, representing Belarus, and in 1976 he managed to win the championship and the Cup of the Byelorussian SSR. BATE was doing just fine, but in 1981 the team was disbanded - the plant no longer had the means and the ability to support the team. And in the USSR, as we know, there were no sponsors. And only in 1996, an initiative group led by Anatoly Kapsky decided to revive the team. The start of the renewed team again turned out to be very successful. Having quickly overcome the border of the second league, BATE achieved the championship title already in 1999. Then Alexander Gleb, Vitaly Kutuzov, as well as the current mentor Viktor Goncharenko played in the Borisov team.

A year later, BATE lost ground somewhat, becoming the silver champion. However, the first European Cup successes of Belarusian football are connected with the Borisov team. In particular, in 2002, the “yellow-blue” successfully proved themselves in the Intertoto Cup, beating the “Munich-1860”, and then almost defeating the “Bologna”. The 2005 season was one of the most difficult in the history of the team. BATE left her permanent coach Yuriy Puntus, whose place was taken by Kriushenko. This reshuffle did not have the most rosy effect on the Borisovites, and at the end of the season, BATE was left without championship medals for the first time in recent history. However, a year later, BATE managed to please its fans with a golden double, winning the national cup and the championship. In the 2007 season, BATE reached the third round of the Champions League, where they lost a ticket to the group stage to the Romanian Steaua.

In 2008, the club's legend Viktor Goncharenko became the head coach of BATE, having successfully played in the team for four seasons. And it was his arrival that was marked by a historic entry into the group stage of the Champions League. On the way to this achievement, BATE coped with the Icelandic "Valur", the Belgian "Anderlecht", as well as the Bulgarian "Levski"! In the group stage, BATE's rivals were bison European football- Real Madrid, Juventus and Zenit. And already in the match against the Turin team, the Belarusians managed to create a sensation by playing a draw with the Italians. Despite the fact that BATE took the last place in the group, the result of this match was considered successful. In the same season, the Borisovites regained the championship title.

In 2011, BATE managed to reach the group stage of the Champions League for the second time in its history. This time the rivals of the Belarusian team were Barcelona, Milan and Victoria from Pilsen. Of course, the most significant match was the draw with Milan, but this time the Belarusians were the fourth in the group. A year later, Goncharenko's team again won the right to play in the Champions League group. "Lille", "Bavaria" and "Valencia" became rivals of BATE. And this time the Belarusians will certainly try to compete for at least third place.

Football

BATE has lost millions of euros. How much did the defeat from Rosenborg cost the Borisovites?

Just math.

BATE does not have a powerful sponsor. The financial well-being of the club is directly proportional to the amount earned in European competition. On this money, which came after the breakthrough in 2008, the long-term hegemony of the Borisovites in the championship is kept. You won't surprise anyone with this hackneyed thought.

But it seems that not everyone is fully aware of what the loss to Rosenborg really cost BATE in terms of money. It seems that the European Cup life continues in the Europa League: tighten up with Sarajevo, tighten up with the one who drops out in the playoff round - and there it is already autumn, group, you can earn.

Can. But not the fantastic money that is spinning in the Champions League.

The ideal option is to get to the Champions League group. This is 15.25 million euros in one fell swoop, which would cover all the needs of BATE and create a safety cushion for the next year or two. Despite the fact that in the group itself, you can earn good money for victories (2.7 million euros) and draws (0.9 million euros). Plus, regardless of the results, the Borisov team would be entitled to several more million euros from the marketing pool (the amount depends on the country's TV market) and for the rating among 32 participants in the group round (calculated over the last 10 years in European competitions; the minimum share that the club can count on, - 1.108 million euros).

It's beautiful, but difficult. BATE has not played in the Champions League group since 2015.

A tangible target is the Champions League play-off round. This year, for example, to complete it, it was necessary to go through Rosenborg, and then Maribor. It's not easy, but who's to say that the task is outrageous? In Trondheim, until the 73rd minute, even with a weak game, it was BATE that went further. If it remains to hold out for 17 minutes, there are definitely chances.

Reaching the knockout round of the Champions League, losing there and being relegated straight to the Europa League group is the financial dream of a mid-range club. Departure from the Champions League playoff round - 5 million euros, getting into the LE group - another 2.92 million euros. 7.92 million euros is a guarantee that there will be no problems with the budget for the next season. Plus, again, you can get by wins, draws, marketing pool and payouts based on the rating among 32 participants group stage LE. We will return to this.

While fixing: pass "Rosenborg" and "Maribor" = simultaneously 7.92 million euros.

Champions League and Europa League: feel the difference

And now let's consider what the Borisovites really claim in this European season. Two scenarios are possible.

First: BATE will not advance to the LE group. In this case, the "yellow-blue" will be entitled to only solidarity payments. By this time, the citizens of Borisov are due:

260 thousand euros - as the champion of the country;
280 thousand euros - for participation in the 1st qualifying round of the Champions League;
380 thousand euros - for participation in the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League;
280 thousand euros - for participation in the 3rd qualifying round of the LE.

In total - 1.2 million euros. If BATE beats Sarajevo but loses in the playoff round of the LE, that's another 300,000 euros.

That is, not reaching the group, Borisov can only count on 1.5 million euros. Obviously, this is not enough to feel financially comfortable.

If the Belarusian champion defeats both Sarajevo and the opponent in the playoff round, then the second scenario will come: BATE will advance to the LE group.

In this case BATE will receive 2.92 million euros for entering the group LE, as well as payments for the qualifying rounds of the Champions League and the Champions League, excluding the playoff round, - 940 thousand euros. That is - a total of 3.86 million euros.

In addition, the UEL group has the same bonuses as the UCL group, but the amounts are much smaller:

Winning the LE group - 570 thousand euros (against 2.7 million in the Champions League);
a draw in the LE group - 190 thousand euros (against 0.9 million in the Champions League);
payouts based on ranking among 32 participants in the group round - the cost of one share is 71430 euros (vs.
marketing pool - depends on the share of the country's TV market, but in the LE they throw 168 million euros into the common pot, and in the Champions League - 292 million (BATE does not count on a serious piece here anyway).

BATE has already proved that it is competitive in the Europa League and can reach the playoffs. Therefore, you also need to keep in mind the following prize money:

Exit from the group from the 1st place - 1 million euros;
leaving the group from 2nd place - 0.5 million euros;
participation in the 1/16 finals of the LE - 0.5 million euros.

And now we are counting on the most optimistic development of events: BATE heroically gets to the LE group (2.92 million euros), everyone vomits there, gaining, say, four victories (2.28 million euros) and taking first place in the group (1 million euros) , eliminated in the 1/16 finals (0.5 million euros). Plus, the club retains 0.94 million euros earned in qualifying rounds Champions League and LE. In total, this is 7.64 million euros - less than the 7.92 that BATE would have received by reaching the Champions League play-off round and doing nothing else! Well, maybe it would have ended up a little more due to payments for the rating and from the marketing pool. But this amount of Borisov's prize money would not change significantly.

Bottom line: BATE was eliminated from the Champions League, and now the Borisov team needs to give their best European Cup result in history in order to get closer to the money they would have received if they had gone through Rosenborg and Maribor. And if they don’t, it will hit the club budget hard.

This is the price of defeat in Trondheim.

just someone squeezed the finances for transfers.

it is clear that they were insured - they say a lot of players left and you can not get a result from a swoop ... but here is the result ...

p.s. basically nothing is lost. There is a pillow (in principle, nothing has been spent out of 10 million, and the budget is floating around 5-6 million), and if you correctly approach the next season, you can repeat last year's result ..

BATE is like a powerful source of energy that has already worked out its fuel and has gone out, we just don’t see it, the light hasn’t reached us yet.

Or did you doubt the victory of the Borisovites over Cologne?

So far, in European competition, the “goats” are making noise only in one category - the fan category. “Cologne” did not play outside of Germany for 25 years, and for a quarter of a century the fans were pretty hungry for long-distance trips. For a recent match against Arsenal in London, for example, about 20,000 guest fans arrived. Not all of them behaved decently, the leader of the fan movement even had to apologize for the actions of the German hooligans. And the match is postponed for an hour. Borisov is the second European city where Cologne fans rushed to thanks to the European League draw.

The match is about to start. Clusters of German-speaking people continue to amaze with volume. There are more and more of them, the guest sector is not enough for them. An organized group - about a hundred - was also placed on the central tribune. The fan roll call of the guests is alarming. They are louder and more active than BATE fans. The Cologne sector is more impressive than the Borisov one. "Goats" go to the field of a distant and unfamiliar stadium, but feel at home. They have no right to lose. They are supported, despite all these failures at the start of the season. Players must win this match. Fans were waiting for victories.

BATE has its own reasons to win. The bookmakers even gave the Borisovites a favorite status. This has never happened in a match against the German team. Historical moment. But being the favorite does not mean winning. BATE needs to prove to themselves first of all that they can play number one with those who are definitely not slower, lower and weaker.

BATE should have won.

Because team on the go. A strong-willed victory over Vitebsk gave confidence. Removal of points in the championship and the increased backlog from the leader - anger. Second half with Arsenal - decisiveness.

Because“Cologne” looks disgusting, they have the psychology of outsiders. “Goats” in the championship score the least, concede the most and scored only one point in 8 matches.

Because the opponent has a lot of injured players and problems with the squad. By different reasons Jonas Hector, John Cordoba, Marcel Risse, João Queiroz, Tim Hunderwerker and Claudio Pizarro did not enter the Borisov Arena field. Midfielder Christian Clemens did not get in shape.

Sheer trouble at the “Cologne” with the flanks. Alexander Yermakovich emphasized this, identifying high-speed and technical performers along the edges. And Maxim Volodko, plus everything, is overall and will add weight to the attack.

In general, the German team played as we expected. It can be seen that he performs in a good championship, has qualified performers in the composition. But there was no fear on our part. Although before the break we were not very active. Somewhere they watched, studied, - the words of Nikolai Signevich, who quite unexpectedly appeared in the starting lineup.

In the first half, BATE and Cologne played cautiously. "My opinion: we play with caution in the European arena. We don't want to run on the attack and get captured"- says Alexander Volodko. The passivity of the guests is explained in much the same way. Waiting for a chance in peace is much more pleasant than exposing the sides (flanks) in an effort to recoup, isn't it? In the 31st minute, Christian Clemens served well into the Borisov penalty area. Simon Zoller jumped above everything, but Denis Shcherbitsky was able to pull the ball out.

In the locker room, we agreed with the guys that we would try to turn on the pressure, make the Germans make mistakes in their own half of the field. So, in principle, the only goal was born. In that episode, I joined the attack and saw that Mirko Ivanic was trying to beat several opponents in the center of someone else's penalty area. There was free space nearby - and I had some kind of feeling: I need to go there. As a result, the ball bounced right on the leg. Let the left, but hit the target. In such a tense, full of martial arts confrontation, the one who opens the score gets a serious advantage, - comments Alexey Rios.

In the future, we acted more on the score, used counterattacks. And they had two great moments, but they did not use the chance to make life easier for themselves. The end of the fight was nerve-wracking. Cologne released a tall striker, switched to long casts. I think that in that situation we were helped by a lot of European Cup team experience. Calmly, without fuss, defended. The pressure on our goal was not critical, - the words of the same Rios.

Closer to the equator of the second half, the yellow-blue had another great moment. Goalkeeper Timo Horn did not expect a long-range shot from Stanislav Dragun (who had a great match) and deflected the ball straight at Mikhail Gordeychuk. He in a simple situation struck by. And already in stoppage time Maxim Volodko could score. Gordeychuk cut him a terrific pass, but Maxim didn't really hit the ball from a lethal position.

BATE won, Cologne lost. The "goats" are ashamed, they lowered their heads and wandered towards the fan sector. Those collectively and in a rude form tell them everything they think about latest results and this match. "It's hard when you upset your fans. Unfortunately, we didn't make them happy today", - Konstantin Raush will say after the match.

But Borisov has a holiday. BATE did what it had to.

The most successful club in the country is owned by a man you've never heard of.

European top clubs do not hide the names of their owners. Anyone who is interested knows that Manchester United is owned by American businessman Malcolm Glaser and Chelsea is owned by Russian Roman Abramovich. In Belarus, it is not customary to disclose such information. It is all the more interesting to find out who owns BATE, the most titled and financially successful domestic club, which has earned 73.2 million euros in European competition over the past nine years.

There is no information about the owner/owners of BATE in open sources. Only a few dozen partners are listed on the club's official website. Among them are Belgosstrakh, Euroopt, BATE Trading House, Borisov Plant of Medical Preparations, Borisov Regional Executive Committee and other organizations.

For most Belarusians, the club is associated with Anatoly Kapsky, who stood at the origins of the revival of BATE. Until 1996, Borisov was represented in Belarusian football another team - "Fomalhaut". However, she withdrew from the First League championship due to financial problems. Then an employee of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kulinkovich and businessman Viktor Pavlovets set about trying to bring another woman back to life. city team- BATE, which from 1973 to 1984 three times became the champion of the BSSR. With such an initiative, they went to the director of the plant of the same name, Nikolai Busel, and before that they persuaded the 30-year-old general director of the Stalker company, Anatoly Kapsky, to become an investor in the project.

- I did not come up with the idea of creating a new club. But when I was approached with an offer to participate in this project, I agreed. At the same time, I set a condition - I must not only finance the project, but also receive complete and reliable information about how the funds are spent and what happens as a result, Kapsky recalled. - Approximately three-quarters of the costs were covered by the Stalker company. The BATE factory did not stand aside either, which provided the team with a place to stay on the territory of the factory dispensary, provided a bus, organized a food system for the players, and subsequently built training fields in Dudinka.

More than half of the income of the Stalker company, which specialized in the sale of trucks and other equipment, went to the maintenance of the club. But not all of Kapsky's business partners liked this.

- I had a moment when my partners in Stalker, whom I myself made such in 1996 - invited me to work and gave shares in the business - came in a difficult period of my life and said: “What are we all for football do we spend? You have to think about yourself too." the businessman said. - There was a question that I had to redeem the share of these people within a few days, getting into debt. Then, however, the situation changed. One person remembered how it all began, that they could just work as hired managers, and after a day or two took a step back. And that was enough, based on the shares.

Kapsky owned a significant share of the club's authorized capital until it was reorganized into a commercial structure. By that time, the manager had already worked for several years as the general director of the BATE plant. According to the law, civil servants in our country cannot be engaged in entrepreneurship. Renouncing his share, Kapsky continued to lead the club in the status of chairman of the board.

Football has never been a business for me. Therefore, no one traded these shares. When it came time to go to another job, my share was transferred to Alexander Zakharchenko (deputy chairman of the club), then to another person. By the way, even when we earn a million or ten million in the Champions League, he does not receive any bonuses for this. This is our friend, in love with football, the manager said.

We managed to find out the name of a stranger who owns the largest stake in the club's authorized capital and is formally its owner. True, he has two more companions.

Natalia Marchenko, 10% of the authorized capital

The famous Belarusian basketball player tied up with professional career in 2012 and quickly found herself outside of sports. Then the wife of the BATE coach Alexei Baga (the couple divorced a few years ago) and the godmother of the ex-goalkeeper mentor main team Alexandra Fedorovicha headed the club development department. A bachelor's degree in business management, obtained at the American University Fairleigh Dickinson in 2004 (Marchenko was inducted into the sports hall of fame of the educational institution) and a personal invitation from Anatoly Kapsky, helped to take this position.

At BATE, Natalia is responsible for developing the commercial component of the Borisov Arena, attracting spectators to home matches and creating ticket programs. She had questions about working with fans last year. Natalia noted that the average attendance of about 5,000 people is not the figure that the club was counting on.

– Look, Natasha Marchenko, head of the development department, gave birth in May 2015 and is raising her son. And since September 1, it has been working. We asked her to go to work. Her deputy, Alesya Katerinich (Kapskaya), gave birth in early October. And although she could no longer fully spend her working day in the office, she was engaged in the ticket program until the end of August. And all because it is difficult to find specialists who would become an equivalent replacement, - said KAA. These two girls are very hardworking and efficient. Along with the general director of the club, Mikhail Dementsevich, they have invested a lot of their knowledge and skills. Apart from them, no one has worked so hard on our new stadium. Although we have a lot of other guys working in the club.

Mikhail Dementsevich, 15% of the authorized capital

A native from Borisov has been working at BATE since 2002. Dementsevich as a child did not play football, but canoeing. Graduated from the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute in 1992. After ten years, he gave it to the Borisov construction trust No. 21, where he worked his way up from foreman to chief engineer.

In the Kapsky project, the manager worked both as an executive director and as a director of the city stadium. For the last eight years he has been working as a General Director. All this time, Dementsevich was in the shadow of the chairman of the board. Thanks to the excellent qualities of the performer (he is responsible for all administrative issues in the club and since 2014 he has been representing him at meetings of the ABFF executive committee), he has earned the trust of the chairman of the board.

– Dementsevich is an excellent executive director. He perfectly represents and implements my will as chairman of the board. This person perfectly understands everything, feels great about the situation. But it is psychologically difficult for him to send me far, far away, - said Kapsky.

Sergey Ivashchenko, 75% of the authorized capital

If people who are interested in domestic sports have heard something about Marchenko and Dementsevich, then nothing is known about Sergei Ivashchenko. The owner of the largest share of the authorized capital of BATE is not registered in any of the social networks. Some of the club's employees did not even hear his last name, and the people involved in the BATE leadership flatly refused to share any information. It was not possible to meet the main owner of the most successful club in Belarus at the stadiums. Ivashchenko is rarely selected for Borisov's games, especially away ones.

The search made it possible to find out that Sergey Grigoryevich Ivashchenko is in charge of the Borisov company Sintal-Bel, which carries out trade and procurement activities. The organization is engaged in components for the automotive industry, tomato paste, juice concentrates and permanent magnets. It is based in Borisov at Revolution Avenue 16, in office 22. In the same building, only in office No. 7, the football office of BATE is located.

Attempts to reach Ivashchenko through the phones of the organization were unsuccessful. When they heard that we needed to contact the boss, the workers would forward the call to each other. In the end, it turned out that the director was not in place, and when he would be, it was not known.

We managed to get several numbers registered to Sergei Grigoryevich Ivashchenko. One of them is used by a woman who has nothing to do with football. Others - the largest founder of BATE:

- Hello, I got through to Sergei Grigorievich, director of the Sintal-Bel company?

Yes, but the company no longer exists. What did you want?

- Do an interview with you. After all, you own 75% of the authorized capital of BATE, but no one has heard of you.

– Sorry, but this is problematic, I am in Russia. Actually, I don't think it makes sense. There is also Anatoly Kapsky, Mikhail Dementsevich, who run the club. They are in plain sight. Why would anyone know about me?

Why not? This is very interesting.

- I don't think so.

- If it's not a secret, what do you do in Russia?

- Working. More over yourself.

– You no longer work for Sintal-Bel?

This company no longer exists. It became part of the Sintal Pak company, which is engaged in the production of corrugated cardboard packaging.

- Have you known Anatoly Kapsky for a long time?

- Very. We met and became friends back in the 90s, when Anatoly Anatolyevich worked at one of the state-owned enterprises. Borisov is a small town where everyone knows each other, so we quickly found contact with him.

- It turns out that your friendship began from the time of "Stalker"?

- I have nothing to do with Stalker, I was engaged in other production. Football is my big hobby. Unfortunately or fortunately, I myself have never been professionally involved in this sport, but I began to worry about BATE from the moment the club was founded.
