Real camping bath

Active outdoor recreation at least a couple of days a month adds at least five years of life, and with a camping bath, all ten. Everyone has a good rest by the river or in a pine forest, but after three days of living in camping conditions in a tent or house, fatigue and a feeling of discomfort accumulate. In this case, a simple shower is no longer enough, you need a sauna tent with a stove. Even a simple camping bath will allow you to remove dirt from yourself and raise your mood for relaxation like no other remedy.

Which option of a camping bath to choose

The desire to get the maximum level of comfort that a portable sauna from a tent is designed for always runs into the problem of excess weight of accessories for arranging a camping bath. But there are no hopeless situations, you can always choose one of the most suitable options:

  • If it is possible to deliver to the place of rest all the necessary accessories and parts for a collapsible camping bath with a stove and a supply of fuel.
  • For a one-time transition over a short distance to a place of a long time, a mobile sauna from a tent with a minimum supply of fuel, but with a full-fledged steam room and the lightest stove, is best suited.
  • If the rest involves long transitions, and a large number of things will have to be carried on your shoulders, the best option would be to take with you a frame and an awning made of light synthetic fabric, from which a camping bath is built with your own hands within a couple of hours. But the stove and fuel will need to be organized from improvised materials.

Important! In arranging even the simplest steam room, it is important to follow the rules with embers. In such a situation, a bathhouse from a tent with a stove will not cause a serious fire, but it can lead to poisoning of unburned firewood with fumes.

How to choose the right camping bath

The desire to soar in the fresh air can work wonders. According to enthusiasts of active steam in a home-made bath in nature, in some cases a group of two or three people managed to drag a home-made camp bath weighing 100 kg to the campsite a few kilometers from the road. But such feats can hardly be called a good rest. Therefore, it would be more literate to choose a suitable lightweight version of a camping bath in a store or do it yourself from a tent, focusing mainly on the reviews of friends and trusted "experts".

A camping sauna can even be sewn on a sewing machine, but small requirements must be taken into account, since a mobile steam room is still different from a regular tourist tent:

  1. Keep warm and steam inside the tent for as long as it takes to take a steam bath for all participants;
  2. Keep the shape and be resistant to gusts of wind or even if one of the people accidentally leans on the wall or frame of the tent;
  3. Have a vestibule or compartment for clothes and things, but at the same time provide the ability to easily and quickly leave the camping bath if necessary;
  4. Have ventilation windows sufficient for the flow of fresh air into the hiking steam room.

The more amenities in a camping steam room, the more weight and which you will have to carry.

Mobile version of the camping bath

To fully steam in nature, you need a light and vapor-tight room that can keep heat and steam inside and provides enough space for at least a couple of people. In a serious full-fledged camping bath, a light tarpaulin or a special two-layer material with a synthetic underlayer-insulation is most often used. Serious mobile baths in many cases are made of a tarpaulin frame and two covers: internal, polypropylene, and external - providing protection from wind and rain.

The outer cover is pulled over the entrance wall and can be used as a vestibule or dressing room. The inner cover, light and durable, is made of a film of at least 1 mm thick.

In addition, such a design of a camping bath must be accompanied by shields made of plastic or wooden grating, laid on the ground and providing good thermal insulation even in winter.

The main attribute of a camping mobile bath is a stove, most often it is a potbelly stove made of alloy steel, designed for wood heating. With a weight of 15-20 kg, such an oven is able to heat a steam room of 10 m 3 to a fever. Ventilation in the camping steam room is provided through a heated stove and a supply window on the opposite wall of the camping bath.

Real camping bath

A truly camping version of the bath should weigh no more than 15 kg and fit easily into one backpack or case. For example, a camping bath PB 2 with a vestibule. Its weight without a stove is just over 14 kg, and, in fact, this is a real full-fledged warm tent. The basis of the tent is a frame made of aluminum arches and an awning made of polyester with a specific weave of fibers "matting". A polyvinyl chloride coating is sprayed on top of the awning fabric, which provides water-repellent properties, but is capable of passing water vapor. The material is very strong and durable. With an equal volume of the tent, the polyester awning is 4 times lighter than the tarpaulin version.

The room of the camping bath can be divided into a tambour measuring two meters by two and a steam room 2x2 m. Thin mats of polyester fabric with filler are laid on the floor, which well protect the room from cold ground.

The ceiling of the sauna at 190 cm allows a group of four people to take a steam bath normally. The steam room of the bath at an air temperature of 10-12 ° C can be heated with a good stove in 30-35 minutes. Approximately the same amount will cool the room. If you manage to correctly line the stove of a camping bath with a suitable pebble stone, the cooling time of the stove can be doubled, however, you will have to heat the steam room for at least 50 minutes.

Everyone who has come across camping baths knows about the unwritten rule - after the final warming up of the steam room, the furnace firebox is thrown with stones, and after a while the potbelly stove needs to be extinguished. This is done in order to prevent possible poisoning by smoldering coals.

Important! The value of the design of the PB lies in the fact that already 60 minutes after the completion of the bath procedures, the tent can be dried and used as a place to sleep.

Hot tub in a hurry

In most cases, it is not always possible to grab a real camping bathhouse with a stove for a vacation or a hike. The desire to take a steam bath in the bath makes you find ways to make a steam room from the simplest materials at hand.

The easiest way to make a camping bath in the field is to convert an ordinary tourist tent. All that is needed is to keep the steam inside the steam room and make a homemade stove - a heater.

To hold the steam, a thick plastic film stretched over the awning of the tent is best suited. If you lay the film from the inside, you get a warm and hot, but stuffy steam room. You can lay the film outside the tent, the conditions will be more comfortable, but it will take longer to heat such a bath from the tent.

In addition to vapor barrier, you need to take care of an additional frame. From an improvised slab or poles, the top of the tent is raised and a rectangular frame is installed, on which a film and an awning are pulled. Sometimes in tourist camps, one tent set is given away from a simple tent for a bathhouse, and the construction is used during the summer season, only as a steam room. It happens that even tarpaulin or fabric walls are specially impregnated with liquid clay to increase the thermal insulation of the walls.

But in reality, they try to insulate the bathhouse-tent by all available means - from armfuls of hay to all kinds of blankets and bedspreads piled on top of the tent. For ventilation, use the regular window of the tent.

The main problem in organizing a hiking steam room in a tent is its heating with a homemade heater. To do this, you need to collect two or three dozen stones weighing 1-2 kg and overlay a fire. After the coals burn out, the red-hot stones are transferred to the tent on the prepared layer of small pebbles, and a new portion of the stone is sent to the fire. A couple of hot stones are sent to a container of water, the rest are used as a heater.
